1Finalmente, chegou o dia em que o Senhor disse a Noé: “Entra na embarcação com toda a tua família, porque, de toda a humanidade, tu és o único ser reto que encontrei. 2Faz também entrar sete pares, macho e fêmea, de todos os animais cerimonialmente limpos, e um só par, macho e fêmea, dos animais não puros. 3Das aves farás entrar igualmente sete pares reprodutores. Assim, se poderá manter viva cada espécie após a cheia. 4Daqui a uma semana começarei a fazer chover, durante 40 dias e 40 noites, e tudo quanto criei com vida morrerá.”
5Noé fez tudo segundo o que o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado. 6Era da idade de 600 anos, quando o dilúvio começou. 7Entrou então na embarcação com a sua mulher, filhos e noras, para escaparem àquela imensa cheia. 8-9Com ele estava lá dentro, igualmente, toda a variedade de vida animal, tanto dos animais cerimonialmente limpos como não; tanto aves como animais terrestres. Estavam ali pares, macho e fêmea, tal como Deus mandara.
10Passada aquela semana, as águas do dilúvio começaram a cair sobre a Terra. 11No dia 17 do segundo mês, do ano em que Noé completou 600 anos, começou a chover torrencialmente, como nunca se tinha visto. Era como se os reservatórios dos abismos se tivessem aberto, juntamente com todas as comportas do céu. 12E assim choveu durante 40 dias e 40 noites.
13Contudo, Noé, no dia em que a chuva começou, tinha entrado naquela construção flutuante com a mulher e os filhos, Sem, Cam e Jafete, e estes com as mulheres. 14Com eles tinham-se abrigado também todas as espécies de animais, domésticos e selvagens, desde aves aos que rastejam no solo. 15-16Entraram dois a dois, de todos os seres que respiram, conforme o que Deus tinha indicado. Um macho e uma fêmea de cada espécie. Então o Senhor fechou, ele mesmo, a porta por fora.
17Durante 40 dias, aquela enchente enorme cobriu a Terra toda; primeiro as planícies, levantando a construção flutuante. 18Depois as águas continuaram a subir, sempre cada vez mais, 19de forma que a embarcação já flutuava em segurança, muitos metros acima da terra. Até que, finalmente, como o dilúvio não parava, mesmo as montanhas mais altas ficaram cobertas. 20Não se via, debaixo do céu, um só monte que não estivesse sob as águas, as quais os ultrapassavam em uns 7 metros ou mais. 21E morreu tudo o que tinha vida sobre a terra: aves, quadrúpedes, répteis e, é claro, todo o ser humano. 22Tudo o que respirava, quer voasse ou vivesse na terra seca, desapareceu. 23Assim, desapareceu tudo o que existia na Terra, animais e seres humanos. Apenas Noé e os que estavam com ele na embarcação sobreviveram.
24As águas cobriram a terra durante 150 dias.
1The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. 2Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, 3and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. 4Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.”
5And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.
6Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth. 7And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. 8Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, 9male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah. 10And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.
11In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.
13On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. 14They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. 15Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. 16The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.
17For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. 20The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.7:20 That is, about 23 feet or about 6.8 meters7:20 Or rose more than fifteen cubits, and the mountains were covered 21Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. 22Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. 23Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.
24The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.
