1Por isso, insisto solenemente, diante de Deus e Cristo Jesus, que há de julgar os vivos e os mortos, quando vier outra vez para estabelecer o seu reino aqui na Terra: 2que anuncies a palavra de Deus; que insistas nessa pregação, não só nas ocasiões consagradas, mas também fora delas; que corrijas e repreendas, que encorajes com toda a paciência os que são fracos, dando-lhes o ensino de que necessitam.
3Porque há de vir uma época em que as pessoas não hão de querer mais ouvir a sã doutrina e procurarão rodear-se de mestres que lhes ensinarão apenas aquilo que vai de encontro aos seus desejos e que seja agradável aos seus ouvidos. 4Recusando-se a ouvir a verdade, voltarão a seguir tradições supersticiosas.
5Tu, porém, mantém-te capaz de controlar, em todas as circunstâncias, o teu próprio carácter, pronto a suportar as aflições, fazendo o trabalho de um evangelista. E assim cumprirás o cargo para o qual foste responsabilizado.
6Porque, naquilo que me diz respeito, a minha vida já tem sido entregue como uma oferta a Deus. Já está próximo o tempo da minha morte. 7Combati o bom combate, acabei a carreira da minha vida, guardei a fé. 8Está já preparada por Deus a coroa da justiça que o Senhor, o justo juiz, me dará naquele dia que há de vir. E não somente a mim, mas também a todos os que amarem a sua vinda.

E assim o Senhor me livrou da boca do leão. 18Sim, ele me livrará de todo o mal e me guardará para o seu reino celestial. Toda a glória lhe seja dada, para sempre, é o nosso desejo profundo!
