Manasés, rey de Judá

1Manasés tenía doce años cuando comenzó a reinar; reinó en Jerusalén cincuenta y cinco años. 2Pero Manasés hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, pues practicaba las repugnantes ceremonias de las naciones que el Señor había expulsado delante de los israelitas. 3Reconstruyó los altares paganos que su padre Ezequías había derribado; además, edificó otros altares en honor de los baales e hizo imágenes de la diosa Aserá. Se postró ante todos los astros del cielo y los adoró. 4Construyó altares en el Templo del Señor, lugar del cual el Señor había dicho: «En Jerusalén estará mi Nombre por siempre». 5En ambos atrios del Templo del Señor construyó altares en honor de los astros del cielo. 6Sacrificó en el fuego a sus hijos en el valle de Ben Hinón, practicó la adivinación, la agorería y la hechicería; además consultó a médiums y a espiritistas. Hizo continuamente lo que ofende al Señor, provocando así su ira.
7Tomó la imagen del ídolo que había hecho y la puso en el Templo de Dios, lugar del cual Dios había dicho a David y a su hijo Salomón: «En este templo en Jerusalén, la ciudad que he escogido de entre todas las tribus de Israel, pondré mi Nombre para siempre. 8Nunca más arrojaré a los israelitas de la tierra en que establecí a sus antepasados, siempre y cuando tengan cuidado de cumplir todo lo que les he ordenado, es decir, toda la Ley, los estatutos y las ordenanzas que les di por medio de Moisés». 9Manasés descarrió a los habitantes de Judá y de Jerusalén, de modo que se condujeron peor que las naciones que el Señor destruyó delante de ellos.
10El Señor habló a Manasés y a su pueblo, pero no le hicieron caso. 11Por eso el Señor envió contra ellos a los comandantes del ejército del rey de Asiria, los cuales capturaron a Manasés y lo llevaron a Babilonia sujeto con garfios y cadenas de bronce. 12Estando en tal aflicción, imploró al Señor, Dios de sus antepasados, y se humilló profundamente ante él. 13Oró al Señor, y él escuchó sus súplicas y le permitió regresar a Jerusalén y volver a reinar. Así Manasés reconoció que solo el Señor es Dios.
14Después de esto, Manasés construyó una alta muralla exterior en la Ciudad de David, la cual iba desde el oeste de Guijón, en el valle, hasta la puerta de los Pescados, y rodeaba Ofel. Además, colocó comandantes militares en todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá 15y sacó del Templo del Señor los dioses extranjeros y el ídolo, arrojando fuera de la ciudad todos los altares que había construido en el monte del Templo del Señor y en Jerusalén. 16Luego reconstruyó el altar del Señor, y en él ofreció sacrificios de comunión y de acción de gracias, y ordenó a Judá que sirviera al Señor, Dios de Israel. 17Sin embargo, el pueblo siguió ofreciendo sacrificios en los altares paganos, aunque se los ofrecían solo al Señor su Dios.
18Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Manasés, incluso su oración a Dios y las palabras de los videntes que le hablaban en nombre del Señor, Dios de Israel, están escritos en las crónicas de los reyes de Israel. 19Su oración y la respuesta que recibió, como también todos sus pecados y rebeldías, los sitios donde erigió altares paganos y colocó las imágenes de la diosa Aserá y de otros ídolos, lo cual hizo antes de su humillación, todo esto está escrito en las crónicas de Jozay. 20Manasés murió y fue sepultado en su palacio; luego su hijo Amón lo sucedió en el trono.
Amón, rey de Judá
33:21-25 – 2R 21:19-24
21Amón tenía veintidós años cuando comenzó a reinar; reinó en Jerusalén dos años. 22Pero hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, como lo había hecho su padre Manasés: ofreció sacrificios a todos los ídolos que había hecho su padre y los adoró. 23Pero a diferencia de su padre Manasés, no se humilló ante el Señor, sino que multiplicó su culpa.
24Los ministros de Amón conspiraron contra él y lo asesinaron en su palacio. 25Entonces el pueblo mató a todos los que habían conspirado contra el rey Amón y, en su lugar, proclamaron rey a su hijo Josías.
1Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem: 2But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
3¶ For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.33.3 he built…: Heb. he returned and built 4Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever. 5And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. 6And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. 7And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever: 8Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses. 9So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel. 10And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.
11¶ Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.33.11 of the king: Heb. which were the king’s33.11 fetters: or, chains 12And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, 13And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God. 14Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah.33.14 Ophel: or, the tower 15And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city. 16And he repaired the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel. 17Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God only.
18¶ Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel. 19His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.33.19 the seers: or, Hosai
20¶ So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house: and Amon his son reigned in his stead.
21¶ Amon was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned two years in Jerusalem. 22But he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them; 23And humbled not himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.33.23 trespassed more and more: Heb. multiplied trespass 24And his servants conspired against him, and slew him in his own house.
25¶ But the people of the land slew all them that had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.
