Salomón pide sabiduría

1Salomón, hijo de David, consolidó su reino, pues el Señor su Dios estaba con él y lo hizo muy poderoso.
2Salomón habló con todos los israelitas, es decir, con los comandantes de mil y de cien soldados, con los jueces y con todos los jefes de las familias patriarcales de Israel. 3Luego él y toda la asamblea que lo acompañaba se dirigieron al santuario de Gabaón, porque allí se encontraba la Tienda de reunión de Dios que Moisés, siervo del Señor, había hecho en el desierto. 4El arca de Dios se encontraba en Jerusalén, en la tienda que David le había preparado cuando la trasladó desde Quiriat Yearín, 5pero el altar de bronce que había hecho Bezalel, hijo de Uri y nieto de Hur, estaba en Gabaón, frente al santuario del Señor. Por eso Salomón y los israelitas fueron a ese lugar para consultar al Señor. 6Allí, en presencia del Señor, Salomón subió al altar de bronce que estaba en la Tienda de reunión y en él ofreció mil holocaustos. 7Aquella noche Dios se apareció y le dijo:
—Pídeme lo que quieras.
8Salomón respondió:
—Tú trataste con mucho amor a mi padre David y a mí me has permitido reinar en su lugar. 9Señor y Dios, cumple ahora la promesa que hiciste a mi padre David, pues tú me has hecho rey de un pueblo tan numeroso como el polvo de la tierra. 10Yo te pido sabiduría y conocimiento para gobernar a tu pueblo; de lo contrario, ¿quién podrá gobernar a este gran pueblo tuyo?
11Entonces Dios dijo a Salomón:
—Ya que has pedido sabiduría y conocimiento para gobernar a mi pueblo, sobre el cual te he hecho rey, y no has pedido riquezas ni bienes ni esplendor, ni siquiera la muerte de tus enemigos o una vida muy larga; 12por tanto, sabiduría y conocimiento te daré. Pero además voy a darte riquezas, bienes y esplendor, como nunca los tuvieron los reyes que te precedieron ni los tendrán los que habrán de sucederte.
13Después de esto, Salomón bajó de la Tienda de reunión, que estaba en el santuario de Gabaón, y regresó a Jerusalén, desde donde reinó sobre Israel.
14Salomón acumuló carros y caballos; llegó a tener mil cuatrocientos carros y doce mil caballos, los cuales mantenía en las caballerizas y también en su palacio en Jerusalén. 15El rey hizo que la plata y el oro fueran en Jerusalén tan comunes como las piedras, y el cedro tan abundante como las higueras de la llanura. 16Los caballos de Salomón eran importados de Egipto y de Coa, que era donde los mercaderes de la corte los compraban. 17Un carro importado de Egipto costaba seiscientos siclos de plata;1:17 Es decir, aprox. 7 kg. un caballo, ciento cincuenta.1:17 Es decir, aprox. 1.7 kg. Además, estos carros y caballos se los vendían a todos los reyes hititas y arameos.
1And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly. 2Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers. 3So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness. 4But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem. 5Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.1.5 he put: or, was there 6And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
7¶ In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. 9Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.1.9 like…: Heb. much as the dust of the earth 10Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? 11And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: 12Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
13¶ Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel. 14And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 15And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.1.15 made: Heb. gave 16And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.1.16 Solomon…: Heb. the going forth of the horses which was Solomon’s 17And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.1.17 means: Heb. hand
