1El arca de Dios fue llevada a la tienda que David había preparado. Allí la instalaron, y luego presentaron holocaustos y sacrificios de comunión en presencia de Dios. 2Después de ofrecer los holocaustos y los sacrificios de comunión, David bendijo al pueblo en el nombre del Señor 3y dio a cada israelita, tanto a hombres como a mujeres, una porción de pan, una torta de dátiles y una torta de pasas.
4David puso a algunos levitas a cargo del arca del Señor para que ministraran, dieran gracias y alabaran al Señor, Dios de Israel. 5Los nombrados fueron Asaf, el primero; Zacarías, el segundo; luego Jeiel, Semiramot, Jehiel, Matatías, Eliab, Benaías, Obed Edom y Jeiel, los cuales tenían liras y arpas. Asaf tocaba los címbalos. 6Los sacerdotes Benaías y Jahaziel tocaban continuamente las trompetas delante del arca del pacto de Dios.

7Ese mismo día, David ordenó, por primera vez, que Asaf y sus compañeros fueran los encargados de esta alabanza al Señor:
8«Den gracias al Señor; proclamen su nombre.
¡Den a conocer sus obras entre las naciones!
9¡Cántenle, entónenle salmos!
¡Hablen de todas sus maravillas!
10¡Gloríense en su santo nombre!
¡Alégrese el corazón de los que buscan al Señor!
11¡Busquen al Señor y su fuerza;
anhelen siempre su rostro!
12»¡Recuerden las maravillas que ha hecho,
las señales y las leyes que ha emitido!
13¡Ustedes, descendientes de Israel, su siervo!
¡Ustedes, hijos de Jacob, elegidos suyos!
14Él es el Señor nuestro Dios;
en toda la tierra están sus leyes.

18cuando dijo: “Te daré la tierra de Canaán
como la herencia que te corresponde”.
19»Aun cuando eran pocos en número,
unos cuantos extranjeros en la tierra,
20que andaban siempre de nación en nación
y de reino en reino,
21a nadie permitió que los oprimiera,
sino que por causa de ellos reprendió a los reyes:
22“¡No toquen a mis ungidos!
¡No maltraten a mis profetas!”.
23»¡Canten al Señor, habitantes de toda la tierra!
¡Proclamen día tras día su salvación!
24Anuncien su gloria entre las naciones,
sus maravillas a todos los pueblos.
25»¡Grande es el Señor y digno de alabanza,
más temible que todos los dioses!
26Todos los dioses de las naciones son ídolos,
pero el Señor ha hecho los cielos.
27El esplendor y la majestad son sus heraldos;
hay poder y alegría en su morada.
28»¡Tributen al Señor, pueblos todos!
¡Tributen al Señor la gloria y el poder!
29¡Tributen al Señor la gloria que merece su nombre!
¡Preséntense ante él con ofrendas;
póstrense ante el Señor en la hermosura de su santidad!
30¡Tiemble delante de él toda la tierra!
Ha establecido el mundo con firmeza; jamás será removido.
31»¡Alégrense los cielos, regocíjese la tierra!
Digan las naciones: “¡El Señor es Rey!”.
32¡Brame el mar y todo lo que él contiene!
¡Que salte de alegría el campo y lo que hay en él!
33¡Que los árboles del campo
canten de gozo ante el Señor!
¡Ya viene a juzgar la tierra!
34»Den gracias al Señor porque él es bueno;
su gran amor perdura para siempre.
35Díganle: “¡Sálvanos, oh Dios de nuestra salvación!
Vuelve a reunirnos y líbranos de las naciones,
para que demos gracias a tu santo nombre
y alabarte sea nuestra gloria”.
36¡Bendito sea el Señor, el Dios de Israel,
eternamente y para siempre!».
Y todo el pueblo dijo: «¡Amén!», y «¡Alabado sea el Señor!».
37David dejó el arca del pacto del Señor al cuidado de Asaf y sus hermanos, para que sirvieran continuamente delante de ella, de acuerdo con el ritual diario. 38Como porteros nombró a Obed Edom y a sus sesenta y ocho hermanos, junto con Obed Edom, hijo de Jedutún, y Josá.
39Al sacerdote Sadoc y a sus hermanos sacerdotes los encargó del santuario del Señor, que está en la cumbre de Gabaón, 40para que sobre el altar ofrecieran constantemente los holocaustos al Señor, en la mañana y en la tarde, tal como está escrito en la Ley que el Señor había ordenado a Israel. 41Con ellos nombró a Hemán y a Jedutún; también a los demás que había escogido y designado por nombre para que alaben al Señor: «Su gran amor perdura para siempre». 42Hemán y Jedutún tenían trompetas, címbalos y otros instrumentos musicales para acompañar los cantos de Dios. Los hijos de Jedutún eran porteros.
43Luego todos regresaron a su casa y David se fue a bendecir a su familia.
Serving God in Front of the Ark
1The ark of God was carried into Jerusalem. It was put in the tent David had set up for it. The priests brought burnt offerings and friendship offerings to God. 2After David finished sacrificing those offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord. 3He gave to each Israelite man and woman a loaf of bread. He also gave each one a date cake and a raisin cake.
4He appointed some of the Levites to serve in front of the ark of the Lord. David wanted them to give honor, thanks and praise to the Lord. He is the God of Israel. 5Asaph was the leader of those Levites. Zechariah was next in rank. Then came Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They played the lyres and harps. Asaph played the cymbals. 6Benaiah and Jahaziel, the priests, blew the trumpets. They blew them at regular times in front of the ark of the covenant of God.
7That day was the first time David appointed Asaph and his helpers. He appointed them to give praise to the Lord with these words.
8Give praise to the Lord. Make his name known.
Tell the nations what he has done.
9Sing to him. Sing praise to him.
Tell about all the wonderful things he has done.
10Honor him, because his name is holy.
Let the hearts of those who trust in the Lord be glad.
11Look to the Lord and to his strength.
Always look to him.
12Remember the wonderful things he has done.
Remember his miracles and how he judged our enemies.
13Remember, you his servants, the children of Israel.
Remember, you people of Jacob. Remember, you who are chosen by God.
14He is the Lord our God.
He judges the whole earth.
15He will keep his covenant forever.
He will keep his promise for all time to come.
16He will keep the covenant he made with Abraham.
He will keep the promise he made to Isaac.
17He made it stand as a law for Jacob.
He made it stand as a covenant for Israel. It will last forever.
18He said, “I will give you the land of Canaan.
It will belong to you.”
19At first there weren’t very many of God’s people.
There were only a few. And they were strangers in the land.
20They wandered from nation to nation.
They wandered from one kingdom to another.
21But God didn’t allow anyone to treat them badly.
To keep them safe, he gave a command to kings.
22He said to them, “Do not touch my anointed ones.
Do not harm my prophets.”
23All you people of the earth, sing to the Lord.
Day after day tell about how he saves us.
24Tell the nations about his glory.
Tell all people about the wonderful things he has done.
25The Lord is great. He is really worthy of praise.
People should have respect for him as the greatest God of all.
26All the gods of the nations are like their statues.
They can’t do anything.
But the Lord made the heavens.
27Glory and majesty are all around him.
Strength and joy are in the place where he lives.
28Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Praise the Lord for his glory and strength.
29Praise the Lord for the glory that belongs to him.
Bring an offering and come to him.
Worship the Lord because of his beauty and holiness.
30All you people of the earth, tremble when you are with him.
The world is firmly set in place. It can’t be moved.
31Let the heavens be filled with joy. Let the earth be glad.
Let them say among the nations, “The Lord rules!”
32Let the ocean and everything in it roar.
Let the fields and everything in them be glad.
33Let the trees in the forest sing with joy.
They will sing before the Lord.
He will judge the people of the world.
34Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good.
His faithful love continues forever.
35Cry out, “Save us, God our Savior.
Save us. Bring us back from among the nations.
Then we will give thanks to you, because your name is holy.
We will celebrate by praising you.”
36Give praise to the Lord, the God of Israel,
for ever and ever.
Then all the people said, “Amen!” They also said, “Praise the Lord.”
37David left Asaph and his helpers to serve in front of the ark of the covenant of the Lord. They served there at regular times. They did it as they were required to do each day. 38David also left Obed-Edom and his 68 helpers to serve with them. Obed-Edom and Hosah guarded the gates. Obed-Edom was the son of Jeduthun.
39David left Zadok the priest and some other priests in front of the holy tent of the Lord. It was at the high place in Gibeon. 40David left them there to sacrifice burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar every morning and evening. They did it according to everything written in the Law of the Lord. That’s the Law he had given to Israel. 41Heman and Jeduthun were with the priests. So were the rest of those who had been chosen by name and appointed to serve. They had been chosen to give thanks to the Lord, “because his faithful love continues forever.” 42It was the duty of Heman and Jeduthun to blow the trumpets. They also had the duty of playing the cymbals and other instruments for the sacred songs. The sons of Jeduthun were stationed at one of the gates.
43All the people left. Everyone went home. And David returned home to bless his family.
