A Autoridade de Jesus é Questionada
(Mt 21.23-27; Mc 11.27-33)
1Certo dia, quando Jesus estava ensinando o povo no templo e pregando as boas-novas, chegaram-se a ele os chefes dos sacerdotes, os mestres da lei e os líderes religiosos, 2e lhe perguntaram: “Com que autoridade estás fazendo estas coisas? Quem te deu esta autoridade?”
3Ele respondeu: “Eu também farei uma pergunta; digam-me: 4O batismo de João era do céu, ou dos homens?”
5Eles discutiam entre si, dizendo: “Se dissermos: Do céu, ele perguntará: ‘Então por que vocês não creram nele?’ 6Mas se dissermos: Dos homens, todo o povo nos apedrejará, porque convencidos estão de que João era um profeta”.
7Por isso responderam: “Não sabemos de onde era”.
8Disse então Jesus: “Tampouco direi com que autoridade estou fazendo estas coisas”.
A Parábola dos Lavradores
(Mt 21.33-46; Mc 12.1-12)
9Então Jesus passou a contar ao povo esta parábola: “Certo homem plantou uma vinha, arrendou-a a alguns lavradores e ausentou-se por longo tempo. 10Na época da colheita, ele enviou um servo aos lavradores, para que lhe entregassem parte do fruto da vinha. Mas os lavradores o espancaram e o mandaram embora de mãos vazias. 11Ele mandou outro servo, mas a esse também espancaram e o trataram de maneira humilhante, mandando-o embora de mãos vazias. 12Enviou ainda um terceiro, e eles o feriram e o expulsaram da vinha.
13“Então o proprietário da vinha disse: ‘Que farei? Mandarei meu filho amado; quem sabe o respeitarão’.
14“Mas quando os lavradores o viram, combinaram uns com os outros dizendo: ‘Este é o herdeiro. Vamos matá-lo, e a herança será nossa’. 15Assim, lançaram-no fora da vinha e o mataram.
“O que lhes fará então o dono da vinha? 16Virá, matará aqueles lavradores e dará a vinha a outros”.
Quando o povo ouviu isso, disse: “Que isso nunca aconteça!”
17Jesus olhou fixamente para eles e perguntou: “Então, qual é o significado do que está escrito?
“ ‘A pedra que os construtores rejeitaram
tornou-se a pedra angular.’20.17 Sl 118.22
18Todo o que cair sobre esta pedra será despedaçado, e aquele sobre quem ela cair será reduzido a pó”.
19Os mestres da lei e os chefes dos sacerdotes procuravam uma forma de prendê-lo imediatamente, pois perceberam que era contra eles que ele havia contado essa parábola. Todavia tinham medo do povo.
O Pagamento de Imposto a César
(Mt 22.15-22; Mc 12.13-17)
20Pondo-se a vigiá-lo, eles mandaram espiões que se fingiam justos para apanhar Jesus em alguma coisa que ele dissesse, de forma que o pudessem entregar ao poder e à autoridade do governador.
21Assim, os espiões lhe perguntaram: “Mestre, sabemos que falas e ensinas o que é correto, e que não mostras parcialidade, mas ensinas o caminho de Deus conforme a verdade. 22É certo pagar imposto a César ou não?”
23Ele percebeu a astúcia deles e lhes disse: 24“Mostrem-me um denário20.24 O denário era uma moeda de prata equivalente à diária de um trabalhador braçal.. De quem é a imagem e a inscrição que há nele?”
25“De César”, responderam eles.
Ele lhes disse: “Portanto, deem20.25 Ou devolvam a César o que é de César, e a Deus o que é de Deus”.
26E não conseguiram apanhá-lo em nenhuma palavra diante do povo. Admirados com a sua resposta, ficaram em silêncio.
A Realidade da Ressurreição
(Mt 22.23-33; Mc 12.18-27)
27Alguns dos saduceus, que dizem que não há ressurreição, aproximaram-se de Jesus com a seguinte questão: 28“Mestre”, disseram eles, “Moisés nos deixou escrito que, se o irmão de um homem morrer e deixar a mulher sem filhos, este deverá casar-se com a viúva e ter filhos para seu irmão. 29Havia sete irmãos. O primeiro casou-se e morreu sem deixar filhos. 30O segundo 31e o terceiro e depois também os outros casaram-se com ela; e morreram os sete sucessivamente, sem deixar filhos. 32Finalmente morreu também a mulher. 33Na ressurreição, de quem ela será esposa, visto que os sete foram casados com ela?”
34Jesus respondeu: “Os filhos desta era casam-se e são dados em casamento, 35mas os que forem considerados dignos de tomar parte na era que há de vir e na ressurreição dos mortos não se casarão nem serão dados em casamento, 36e não podem mais morrer, pois são como os anjos. São filhos de Deus, visto que são filhos da ressurreição. 37E que os mortos ressuscitam, já Moisés mostrou, no relato da sarça, quando ao Senhor ele chama ‘Deus de Abraão, Deus de Isaque e Deus de Jacó’20.37 Êx 3.6. 38Ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos, pois para ele todos vivem”.
39Alguns dos mestres da lei disseram: “Respondeste bem, Mestre!” 40E ninguém mais ousava fazer-lhe perguntas.
O Cristo é Senhor de Davi
(Mt 22.41-46; Mc 12.35-37)
41Então Jesus lhes perguntou: “Como dizem que o Cristo é Filho de Davi?
42“O próprio Davi afirma no Livro de Salmos:
“ ‘O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor:
Senta-te à minha direita
43até que eu ponha os teus inimigos
como estrado para os teus pés’20.42,43 Sl 110.1.
44Portanto Davi o chama ‘Senhor’. Então, como é que ele pode ser seu filho?”
45Estando todo o povo a ouvi-lo, Jesus disse aos seus discípulos: 46“Cuidado com os mestres da lei. Eles fazem questão de andar com roupas especiais e gostam muito de receber saudações nas praças e de ocupar os lugares mais importantes nas sinagogas e os lugares de honra nos banquetes. 47Eles devoram as casas das viúvas, e, para disfarçar, fazem longas orações. Esses homens serão punidos com maior rigor!”
1And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders, 2And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority? 3And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me: 4The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? 5And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not? 6But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet. 7And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was. 8And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. 9Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time. 10And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. 11And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. 12And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. 13Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. 14But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. 15So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them? 16He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. 17And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? 18Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
19¶ And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. 20And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor. 21And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly: 22Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or no? 23But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? 24Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cæsar’s. 25And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which be Cæsar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s. 26And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
27¶ Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him, 28Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man’s brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 29There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. 30And the second took her to wife, and he died childless. 31And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died. 32Last of all the woman died also. 33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife. 34And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. 37Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
39¶ Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said. 40And after that they durst not ask him any question at all. 41And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David’s son? 42And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 43Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 44David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
45¶ Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, 46Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; 47Which devour widows’ houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.
