Salomão Pede Sabedoria
1Salomão, filho de Davi, estabeleceu-se com firmeza em seu reino, pois o Senhor, o seu Deus, estava com ele e o tornou muito poderoso.
2Salomão falou a todo o Israel: os líderes de mil e de cem, os juízes, todos os líderes de Israel e os chefes de famílias. 3Depois o rei foi com toda a assembleia ao lugar sagrado, no alto de Gibeom, pois ali estava a Tenda do Encontro que Moisés, servo do Senhor, havia feito no deserto. 4Davi tinha transportado a arca de Deus de Quiriate-Jearim para a tenda que ele tinha armado para ela em Jerusalém. 5O altar de bronze que Bezalel, filho de Uri e neto de Hur, fizera estava em Gibeom, em frente do tabernáculo do Senhor; ali Salomão e a assembleia consultaram o Senhor. 6Salomão ofereceu ao Senhor mil holocaustos1.6 Isto é, sacrifícios totalmente queimados; também em todo o livro de 2Crônicas. sobre o altar de bronze, na Tenda do Encontro.
7Naquela noite Deus apareceu a Salomão e lhe disse: “Peça-me o que quiser, e eu darei a você”.
8Salomão respondeu: “Tu foste muito bondoso para com meu pai Davi e me fizeste rei em seu lugar. 9Agora, Senhor Deus, que se confirme a tua promessa a meu pai Davi, pois me fizeste rei sobre um povo tão numeroso quanto o pó da terra. 10Dá-me sabedoria e conhecimento, para que eu possa liderar esta nação, pois quem pode governar este teu grande povo?”
11Deus disse a Salomão: “Já que este é o desejo de seu coração e você não pediu riquezas, nem bens, nem honra, nem a morte dos seus inimigos, nem vida longa, mas sabedoria e conhecimento para governar o meu povo, sobre o qual o fiz rei, 12você receberá o que pediu, mas também lhe darei riquezas, bens e honra, como nenhum rei antes de você teve e nenhum depois de você terá”.
13Então Salomão voltou de Gibeom, de diante da Tenda do Encontro, para Jerusalém, e reinou sobre Israel.
14Salomão juntou carros e cavalos; chegou a ter mil e quatrocentos carros e doze mil cavalos1.14 Ou condutores de carros, dos quais mantinha uma parte nas guarnições de algumas cidades e a outra perto dele, em Jerusalém. 15O rei tornou tão comuns a prata e o ouro em Jerusalém quanto as pedras, e o cedro tão numeroso quanto as figueiras bravas da Sefelá1.15 Pequena faixa de terra de relevo variável entre a planície costeira e as montanhas; também em 9.27; 26.10 e 28.18.. 16Os cavalos de Salomão eram importados do Egito1.16 Ou Muzur, região da Cilícia; também no versículo 17. e da Cilícia1.16 Hebraico: Cuve., onde os fornecedores do rei os compravam. 17Importavam do Egito um carro por sete quilos e duzentos gramas1.17 Hebraico: 600 siclos. Um siclo equivalia a 12 gramas. de prata, e um cavalo por um quilo e oitocentos gramas, e os exportavam para todos os reis dos hititas e dos arameus.
1And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly. 2Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers. 3So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness. 4But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem. 5Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.1.5 he put: or, was there 6And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
7¶ In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. 9Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.1.9 like…: Heb. much as the dust of the earth 10Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? 11And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: 12Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
13¶ Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel. 14And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 15And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.1.15 made: Heb. gave 16And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.1.16 Solomon…: Heb. the going forth of the horses which was Solomon’s 17And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.1.17 means: Heb. hand
