1Men vem trodde på vårt budskap,
och för vem har Herren uppenbarat sin arm53:1 arm står för makt i hebreiskan.?
2Som en späd planta växte han upp inför honom,
som en rot ur torr mark.
Han hade ingen ståtlig gestalt
som drog våra blickar till sig,
inget utseende som tilltalade oss.
3Han var föraktad och övergiven av människor,
en smärtornas man som visste vad lidande var,
en som man döljer sitt ansikte för.
Han var föraktad,
och vi betraktade honom som värdelös.
4Ändå var det våra sjukdomar han bar,
och våra smärtor tog han på sig,
medan vi trodde att Gud straffade honom,
slog honom och lät honom lida.
5Han blev sårad för våra överträdelsers skull,
krossad för våra missgärningar.
Straffet var lagt på honom för att vi skulle få frid.
Genom hans sår blir vi helade.
6Vi gick alla vilse som får,
var och en valde sin egen väg.
Herren lät honom drabbas av all vår skuld.
7Han blev torterad och förödmjukad
men öppnade ändå inte sin mun.
Han var som ett lamm som förs bort för att slaktas,
eller som tackan som står tyst när man klipper henne,
han öppnade inte sin mun.
8Han blev fängslad, dömd och bortförd.
Vem i hans släkte tänkte på det?
För han togs bort från de levandes land,
blev straffad för mitt folks brott.
9Sin grav fick han bland de gudlösa,
och med en rik man i sin död,
han som aldrig hade gjort något orätt
och aldrig hade ljugit.
10Men det var Herrens vilja
att låta lidandet drabba honom,
och även om hans liv blev givet som ett skuldoffer,53:10 Eller: När/Om du gör hans liv till ett skuldoffer.
ska han få se ättlingar53:10 Det hebreiska ordet är egentligen säd och kan också användas om ättlingar. Se not till 1 Mos 12:7. och ett långt liv.
Herrens vilja ska förverkligas genom honom.
11När hans elände är över, ska han se ljuset53:11 Ordet ljuset står i Septuaginta och Jesajarullarna från Qumran.
och bli tillfreds med insikten.
Min rättfärdige tjänare
gör många rättfärdiga
och bär deras skulder.
12Jag ska ge honom hans andel bland de stora,
och han ska dela byte med de mäktiga,
för han var beredd att dö.
Han räknades som en syndare,
när han bar de mångas skuld
och bad för syndarna.
