Strategia lui Naomi
1După o vreme Naomi, soacra ei, i‑a zis:
– Fiica mea, aș vrea să‑ți găsesc un loc de odihnă, unde să‑ți fie bine. 2Oare Boaz, cu ale cărui slujnice ai fost, nu este el rudă cu noi? Iată că la noapte își va vântura orzul în arie. 3Tu spală‑te, unge‑te, pune‑ți mantia pe tine și coboară la aria de treierat. Să nu te faci însă cunoscută lui până nu termină de mâncat și de băut. 4Și când urmează să se culce, să afli locul unde se va culca. Apoi să te duci, să‑i dezvelești picioarele și să te culci. După aceea îți va spune el ce să faci.
5Ea i‑a răspuns:
– Voi face tot ce mi‑ai spus.
6Rut a coborât la aria de treierat și a făcut întocmai cum o sfătuise soacra ei. 7După ce a mâncat și a băut, Boaz, mulțumit în inima lui, s‑a întins să se culce la marginea unui stog. Atunci ea s‑a apropiat încet, i‑a dezvelit picioarele și s‑a culcat acolo. 8Pe la miezul nopții omul s‑a speriat. El s‑a aplecat și iată că o femeie era culcată la picioarele sale.
9El a întrebat:
– Cine ești tu?
Ea i‑a răspuns:
– Sunt eu, Rut, slujitoarea ta. Întinde‑ți marginea mantiei peste slujitoarea ta,9 Sau: Ia‑o pe slujitoarea ta sub aripile tale, ambele variante exprimând o cerere de răscumpărare și protecție prin căsătorie. căci tu ești cel cu drept de răscumpărare.
10El a zis:
– Binecuvântată să fii de Domnul, fiica mea! Bunătatea10 Vezi nota de la 1:8. pe care ai arătat‑o la urmă spune mai mult decât ceea ce ai făcut prima dată, de vreme ce nu ai umblat după cei tineri, fie ei săraci sau bogați. 11De aceea, fiica mea, nu te teme. Voi face pentru tine tot ce mi‑ai spus, deoarece tot poporul meu în cetate știe că ești o femeie cinstită. 12Este adevărat că eu am drept de răscumpărare, dar mai există cineva, mai apropiat decât mine, care are și el acest drept. 13Rămâi în noaptea aceasta aici, iar dimineața, dacă el va dori să te răscumpere, bine, să te răscumpere! Dar dacă nu va dori să te răscumpere, viu este Domnul că te voi răscumpăra eu! Deci culcă‑te aici până dimineață.
14Ea a rămas culcată la picioarele lui până spre dimineață, trezindu‑se mai înainte ca oamenii să se poată vedea unii pe alții, deoarece Boaz îi spusese:
– Să nu se afle că a intrat o femeie în arie.
15Apoi Boaz a zis:
– Adu mantaua de pe tine și ține‑o bine.
Ea a ținut‑o, iar Boaz i‑a măsurat șase măsuri de orz și le‑a pus în ea. Apoi el s‑a dus în cetate.
16Când Rut a ajuns la soacra sa, aceasta a întrebat‑o:
– Cum a fost, fiica mea?
Rut i‑a istorisit tot ce a făcut omul acela pentru ea.
17Apoi a zis:
– Mi‑a mai dat și aceste șase măsuri de orz, zicându‑mi: „Să nu te întorci cu mâinile goale la soacra ta.“
18Naomi i‑a zis:
– Așteaptă, fiica mea, până vei vedea ce întorsătură vor lua lucrurile, dar îți spun că omul acesta nu‑și va găsi liniștea până nu va lămuri lucrurile chiar astăzi.
1Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee? 2And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor. 3Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking. 4And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.3.4 uncover: or, lift up the clothes that are on 5And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
6¶ And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her. 7And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
8¶ And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.3.8 turned: or, took hold on 9And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.3.9 a near…: or, one that hath right to redeem 10And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich. 11And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.3.11 city: Heb. gate 12And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I. 13Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.
14¶ And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor. 15Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.3.15 vail: or, sheet, or, apron 16And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her. 17And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law. 18Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
