1Fraților, dorința inimii mele și rugăciunea mea către Dumnezeu pentru israeliți este să fie mântuiți. 2Căci le mărturisesc că au zel pentru Dumnezeu, însă nu potrivit cu adevărata cunoaștere. 3Fiindcă, necunoscând dreptatea lui Dumnezeu și căutând să‑și însușească o dreptate a lor înșiși, ei nu s‑au supus dreptății lui Dumnezeu. 4Căci Cristos este împlinirea4 Gr.: telos, care se poate traduce și cu: scopul. Legii, pentru dreptatea fiecăruia care crede.
Mântuirea este pentru toți cei care cred
5Căci Moise scrie despre dreptatea care vine din Lege astfel: „Omul care le face va trăi prin ele.“5 Vezi Lev. 18:5. 6Însă dreptatea care vine din credință spune așa: „Să nu zici în inima ta: «Cine se va sui în cer?»“6 Vezi Deut. 30:12. – adică pentru a‑L coborî pe Cristos – 7„sau: «Cine va coborî în Adânc7 Lit.: Abis, loc de detenție pentru duhurile rele și pentru Satan. În LXX însă, termenul grecesc abyssos traduce ebraicul tehom (adânc, vezi Gen. 1:2; 7:11).?»“7 Pavel folosește un limbaj similar celui din Deut. 30:13 pentru a face aluzie, probabil, la experiența coborârii și întoarcerii lui Iona din adâncuri, exemplu folosit de Isus ca simbol al morții și învierii Sale. – adică pentru a‑L ridica pe Cristos dintre cei morți! 8Și atunci, ce spune ea?
„Cuvântul este aproape de tine;
este în gura ta și în inima ta.“8 Vezi Deut. 30:14.
Acesta este cuvântul credinței, pe care‑l predicăm. 9Fiindcă, dacă mărturisești cu gura ta că Isus este Domn9 Sau: este Domnul; vezi v. 13. Termenul grecesc pentru Domn (Kurios) apare de peste 6000 de ori în LXX, traducându‑l pe ebraicul YHWH (Domnul– vezi nota de la Ex. 3:14). și crezi în inima ta că Dumnezeu L‑a înviat dintre cei morți, vei fi mântuit. 10Căci cu inima omul crede ca să primească dreptatea și cu gura mărturisește ca să primească mântuirea.10 Lit.: cu inima crede spre dreptate și cu gura mărturisește spre mântuire. 11Într-adevăr, Scriptura spune: „Oricine crede în El nu va fi făcut de rușine.“11 Pavel citează din Is. 28:16 în traducerea LXX. 12Căci nu este nicio deosebire între iudeu și grec, deoarece Același Domn este al tuturor, fiind bogat în binecuvântare față de toți cei ce‑L cheamă. 13Fiindcă „oricine va chema Numele Domnului va fi mântuit!“13 Vezi Ioel 2:32.
14Așadar, cum Îl vor chema pe Cel în Care n‑au crezut? Și cum vor crede în Cel despre Care n‑au auzit? Și cum vor auzi, fără să le predice cineva? 15Și cum să predice, dacă nu sunt trimiși? Așa cum este scris: „Cât de frumoase sunt picioarele celor ce aduc vești bune!“15 Vezi Is. 52:7; Naum 1:15.
16Însă nu toți au ascultat de Evanghelie, pentru că Isaia spune: „Doamne, cine a crezut ceea ce noi am auzit?“16 Vezi Is. 53:1. 17Astfel, credința vine în urma auzirii, iar auzirea vine prin Cuvântul lui Cristos.17 Lit.: Astfel, credința [vine] din auzire, iar auzirea [vine] prin Cuvântul lui Cristos. 18Însă eu întreb: n‑au auzit ei? Ba da!
„Răsunetul lor a străbătut întreg pământul
și cuvintele lor au ajuns până la marginile lumii.“18 Vezi Ps. 19:4.
19Însă eu întreb: oare n‑a înțeles Israel? Mai întâi, Moise spune:
„Eu vă voi provoca la gelozie prin cei ce nu sunt un neam;
vă voi mânia printr‑un neam fără pricepere.“19 Vezi Deut. 32:21.
20Iar Isaia este atât de îndrăzneț, încât spune:
„M‑am lăsat găsit de către cei ce nu Mă căutau;
M‑am făcut cunoscut celor ce nu întrebau de Mine.“20 Vezi Is. 65:1 în traducerea LXX.
21Însă, despre Israel, spune:
„Toată ziua Mi‑am întins mâinile
către un popor neascultător și împotrivitor.“21 Vezi Is. 65:2.
1Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: ‘The person who does these things will live by them.’10:5 Lev. 18:5 6But the righteousness that is by faith says: ‘Do not say in your heart, “Who will ascend into heaven?” ’10:6 Deut. 30:12 (that is, to bring Christ down) 7‘or “Who will descend into the deep?” ’10:7 Deut. 30:13 (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8But what does it say? ‘The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,’10:8 Deut. 30:14 that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9if you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11As Scripture says, ‘Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.’10:11 Isaiah 28:16 (see Septuagint) 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile – the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’10:13 Joel 2:32
14How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’10:15 Isaiah 52:7
16But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed our message?’10:16 Isaiah 53:1 17Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. 18But I ask: did they not hear? Of course they did:
‘Their voice has gone out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.’10:18 Psalm 19:4
19Again I ask: did Israel not understand? First, Moses says,
‘I will make you envious by those who are not a nation;
I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.’10:19 Deut. 32:21
20And Isaiah boldly says,
‘I was found by those who did not seek me;
I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.’10:20 Isaiah 65:1
21But concerning Israel he says,
‘All day long I have held out my hands
to a disobedient and obstinate people.’10:21 Isaiah 65:2
