Mana și prepelițele
1Întreaga comunitate a fiilor lui Israel a plecat din Elim și a ajuns în pustia Sin, care este între Elim și Sinai, în ziua a cincisprezecea a lunii a doua după ieșirea lor din țara Egiptului. 2În pustie, întreaga comunitate a fiilor lui Israel a cârtit împotriva lui Moise și a lui Aaron. 3Fiii lui Israel le‑au zis: „O, de‑am fi fost omorâți de mâna Domnului în țara Egiptului, când stăteam lângă oalele cu carne și mâncam pâine din belșug! Căci ne‑ați adus în pustia aceasta ca să faceți să moară de foame toată adunarea aceasta!“
4Atunci Domnul i‑a zis lui Moise: „Iată, voi face să plouă pâine din cer pentru voi. În fiecare zi poporul să iasă și să adune pâine pentru ziua aceea. Îi voi pune la încercare ca să văd dacă vor umbla sau nu potrivit cu legea4 În acest context, lege (ebr.: tora) face referire la instrucțiunile sau poruncile pe care Domnul i le dă poporului cu privire la mană (vezi v. 16, 19, 23, 28). Mea. 5În ziua a șasea să pregătească ce au adunat, într‑o cantitate dublă față de ce au adunat în fiecare zi.“
6Moise și Aaron le‑au zis tuturor fiilor lui Israel: „Diseară, veți ști că Domnul v‑a scos din țara Egiptului, 7iar dimineață veți vedea slava Domnului, pentru că El aude cârtirile voastre împotriva Lui. Căci ce suntem noi, ca să cârtiți împotriva noastră?“ 8Moise a zis: „Veți ști aceasta când Domnul vă va da carne seara, iar dimineața – pâine din belșug, pentru că Domnul v‑a auzit cârtirile pe care le‑ați rostit împotriva Lui. Ce suntem noi? Cârtirile voastre nu sunt împotriva noastră, ci împotriva Domnului.“
9După aceea, Moise i‑a zis lui Aaron: „Spune întregii comunități a fiilor lui Israel: «Apropiați‑vă de Domnul, căci El a auzit cârtirile voastre.»“ 10În timp ce Aaron vorbea întregii comunități a fiilor lui Israel, ei s‑au uitat înspre pustie și iată că slava Domnului s‑a arătat în nor. 11Domnul i‑a vorbit lui Moise, zicând: 12„Am auzit cârtirile fiilor lui Israel. De aceea spune‑le: «Între cele două seri12 Vezi nota de la 12:6. o să mâncați carne, iar dimineața – pâine din belșug. Atunci veți ști că Eu sunt Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru.»“
13Seara au venit niște prepelițe care au acoperit tabăra. Dimineața, în jurul taberei, se afla un strat de rouă. 14Când stratul de rouă s‑a ridicat, iată că pe fața pustiei au rămas niște boabe mici, ca boabele de gheață pe pământ. 15Când fiii lui Israel le‑au văzut, fiecare i‑a zis fratelui său: „Ce este aceasta?“ Căci nu știau ce este. Moise le‑a zis: „Este pâinea pe care Domnul v‑a dat‑o s‑o mâncați. 16Domnul a poruncit: «Fiecare din voi să adune cât îi trebuie pentru hrană și anume un omer16, 18, 32-33, 36 Un omer măsura a zecea parte dintr‑o efă; aproximativ 2,2 l (măsurile erau calculate în litri, atât pentru lichide, cât și pentru solide). de fiecare persoană, după numărul celor din cortul lui. Să adunați pentru fiecare persoană din cortul vostru.»“
17Fiii lui Israel au făcut astfel: unii au adunat mai mult, alții mai puțin. 18După ce au măsurat‑o cu omerul, au văzut că celui ce a adunat mai mult nu i‑a rămas în plus, iar cel ce a adunat mai puțin n‑a dus lipsă; fiecare om a adunat după nevoile lui. 19Moise le‑a zis: „Nimeni să nu lase ceva din ea până dimineața!“ 20Însă ei nu l‑au ascultat pe Moise. Unii au lăsat o parte din ea până dimineața, astfel că aceasta a făcut viermi și s‑a împuțit. Moise s‑a mâniat pe ei. 21În fiecare dimineață adunau după cum aveau nevoie. Când soarele era fierbinte, pâinea se topea. 22În ziua a șasea ei au adunat de două ori mai multă pâine, și anume doi omeri22 Vezi nota de la 16:16; aproximativ 4,4 l. de fiecare. Când toți conducătorii comunității au venit și l‑au înștiințat pe Moise, 23acesta le‑a zis: „Iată ce a spus Domnul: «Mâine este o zi de odihnă23 Termenul ebraic șabbaton. Spre deosebire de șabbat (Sabat, ziua de odihnă), șabbaton definește o perioadă cu semnificație specială și poate fi tradus cu sensul de zi solemnă, zi specială de odihnă. Când apare singur, termenul descrie ziua de Anul Nou (Lev. 23:24), ziua întâi și a opta din Sărbătoarea Corturilor (Lev. 23:29), perioada Anului Sabatic (Lev. 25:5) sau ziua de Sabat (Lev. 16:23). Când apare în forma de superlativ șabbat șabbaton, se referă la Ziua Ispășirii (Lev. 16:31; 23:32), perioada Anului Sabatic (Lev. 25:4) sau ziua de Sabat (Lev. 23:3)., un Sabat sfânt pentru Domnul. Coaceți ce aveți de copt, fierbeți ce aveți de fiert și tot ce vă rămâne păstrați până dimineața.»“ 24Ei au păstrat‑o așa cum a poruncit Moise, și ea nu s‑a împuțit și n‑a făcut viermi. 25Moise a zis: „Mâncați‑o azi, pentru că azi este Sabatul Domnului; azi nu veți găsi pâine pe câmp. 26S‑o adunați timp de șase zile, căci în ziua a șaptea, ziua de Sabat, ea nu va fi.“
27În ziua a șaptea însă, unii oameni din popor au ieșit să adune pâine, dar n‑au găsit nimic. 28Domnul i‑a zis lui Moise: „Până când veți refuza să păziți poruncile și legile Mele? 29Vedeți că Domnul v‑a dat Sabatul; de aceea vă dă El în a șasea zi pâine pentru două zile. Orice om să rămână acolo unde este. Niciunul să nu iasă din locul său în ziua a șaptea.“ 30Și astfel, în ziua a șaptea poporul s‑a odihnit.
31Casa lui Israel i‑a pus numele „mană“31 Mana înseamnă Ce? (ebr.: Man?). Ea era ca sămânța de coriandru. Era albă, iar la gust era ca o turtă cu miere. 32Moise a zis: „Acesta este cuvântul pe care l‑a poruncit Domnul: «Puneți deoparte un omer plin de mană, ca să fie păstrat de‑a lungul generațiilor voastre, pentru ca ei să vadă pâinea cu care v‑am hrănit în pustie, când v‑am scos din țara Egiptului.»“ 33Moise i‑a zis lui Aaron: „Ia un vas, pune în el un omer plin cu mană și așază‑l înaintea Domnului ca să fie păstrat de‑a lungul generațiilor voastre.“ 34Aaron l‑a pus înaintea Mărturiei34 Expresia descrie în mod specific locul în care era păstrată mana, dar ea trebuie înțeleasă în contextul Tablelor Legii, care aveau să fie revelate mai târziu. Expresia anticipă vremea când va fi construit Chivotul., ca să fie păstrat acolo, așa cum Domnul îi poruncise lui Moise. 35Fiii lui Israel au mâncat mană timp de patruzeci de ani, până când au ajuns într‑o țară locuită. 1And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. 2And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: 3And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
4¶ Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.16.4 a certain…: Heb. the portion of a day in his day 5And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. 6And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt: 7And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us? 8And Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
9¶ And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings. 10And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.
11¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 12I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
13And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. 14And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground. 15And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.16.15 It is…: or, What is this? or, It is a portion
16¶ This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.16.16 for every…: Heb. by the poll, or, head16.16 persons: Heb. souls 17And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less. 18And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. 19And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. 20Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them. 21And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.
22¶ And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. 23And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. 24And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein. 25And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field. 26Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.
27¶ And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. 28And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? 29See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. 30So the people rested on the seventh day. 31And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.
32¶ And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. 33And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations. 34As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. 35And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan. 36Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.
