1Ascultați cuvântul acesta,
vaci ale Bașanului, care sunteți pe muntele Samariei,
care‑i asupriți pe cei săraci,
care‑i zdrobiți pe cei nevoiași,
care ziceți stăpânilor voștri:
„Aduceți‑ne să bem!“
2Stăpânul Domn a jurat pe sfințenia Sa, zicând:
„Iată vin zile pentru voi
când vă vor trage cu cârlige,
iar pe ultimele dintre voi – cu cârlige de pescuit.
3Veți ieși prin spărturile zidului,
fiecare drept înainte,
și veți fi alungate în Harmon3 Locație geografică necunoscută.,“ zice Domnul.
4„Duceți‑vă la Betel și păcătuiți!
Duceți‑vă la Ghilgal și păcătuiți și mai mult!
Aduceți‑vă dimineața jertfele
și dați‑vă zeciuielile la fiecare trei zile4 Sau, cf. Deut. 14:28: ani.!
5Aduceți jertfă de mulțumire din pâine dospită
și lăudați‑vă cu darurile de bunăvoie,
trâmbițați despre ele,
căci aceasta vă place, fii ai lui Israel,“
zice Stăpânul Domn.
Eșecul Israelului în a învăța prin disciplinare
6„Prin urmare, și Eu v‑am trimis foamete6 Lit.: dinți curați (fără mâncare printre ei). în toate cetățile voastre
și am adus lipsă de pâine în toate locurile voastre.
Dar tot nu v‑ați întors la Mine,“ zice Domnul.
7„Mai mult, tot Eu am oprit ploaia pentru voi,
când mai erau încă trei luni până la seceriș.
Am dat ploaie peste o cetate,
dar peste o alta n‑am lăsat să plouă;
peste un ogor a plouat,
însă alt ogor nu a avut parte de ploaie și s‑a uscat.
8Două-trei cetăți s‑au dus însetate la o alta ca să bea apă,
dar nu s‑au săturat.
Cu toate acestea, nu v‑ați întors la Mine,“ zice Domnul.
9„De multe ori v‑am lovit grădinile și viile
cu filoxera și cu mălura.9 Sau: V‑am lovit cu filoxera și cu mălura / mulțimea grădinilor și viilor voastre.
Apoi lăcustele v‑au devorat smochinii și măslinii,
dar tot nu v‑ați întors la Mine,“ zice Domnul.
10„Am trimis împotriva voastră molima,
ca și în Egipt.
I‑am ucis pe tinerii voștri cu sabia
și am tăiat caii voștri căzuți ca pradă.
Am ridicat duhoarea taberei voastre până la nările voastre,
dar tot nu v‑ați întors la Mine,“ zice Domnul.
11„Pe unii dintre voi i‑am distrus,
cum a distrus Dumnezeu Sodoma și Gomora.
Ați ajuns ca tăciunele scos din jar,
dar tot nu v‑ați întors la Mine,“ zice Domnul.
12„De aceea îți voi face astfel, Israel,
și, pentru că îți voi face astfel,
pregătește‑te să‑L întâlnești pe Dumnezeul tău, Israel!“
13Căci iată că El este Cel Ce a întocmit munții,
Cel Ce a creat vântul
și i‑a descoperit omului gândul Său,
Cel Ce a prefăcut zorii în întuneric
și Cel Ce umblă pe înălțimile pământului –
Domnul, Dumnezeul Oștirilor, este Numele Său.
Israel Has Not Returned to God
1Hear this word, you cows of Bashan on Mount Samaria,
you women who oppress the poor and crush the needy
and say to your husbands, “Bring us some drinks!”
2The Sovereign Lord has sworn by his holiness:
“The time will surely come
when you will be taken away with hooks,
the last of you with fishhooks.4:2 Or away in baskets, / the last of you in fish baskets
3You will each go straight out
through breaches in the wall,
and you will be cast out toward Harmon,4:3 Masoretic Text; with a different word division of the Hebrew (see Septuagint) out, you mountain of oppression”
declares the Lord.
4“Go to Bethel and sin;
go to Gilgal and sin yet more.
Bring your sacrifices every morning,
your tithes every three years.4:4 Or days
5Burn leavened bread as a thank offering
and brag about your freewill offerings—
boast about them, you Israelites,
for this is what you love to do,”
declares the Sovereign Lord.
6“I gave you empty stomachs in every city
and lack of bread in every town,
yet you have not returned to me,”
declares the Lord.
7“I also withheld rain from you
when the harvest was still three months away.
I sent rain on one town,
but withheld it from another.
One field had rain;
another had none and dried up.
8People staggered from town to town for water
but did not get enough to drink,
yet you have not returned to me,”
declares the Lord.
9“Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards,
destroying them with blight and mildew.
Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees,
yet you have not returned to me,”
declares the Lord.
10“I sent plagues among you
as I did to Egypt.
I killed your young men with the sword,
along with your captured horses.
I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camps,
yet you have not returned to me,”
declares the Lord.
11“I overthrew some of you
as I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
You were like a burning stick snatched from the fire,
yet you have not returned to me,”
declares the Lord.
12“Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel,
and because I will do this to you, Israel,
prepare to meet your God.”
13He who forms the mountains,
who creates the wind,
and who reveals his thoughts to mankind,
who turns dawn to darkness,
and treads on the heights of the earth—
the Lord God Almighty is his name.
