Asasinarea lui Iș‑Boșet
1Când a auzit că Abner a murit în Hebron, lui Iș‑Boșet, fiul lui Saul, i s‑au înmuiat mâinile, și tot Israelul s‑a îngrozit. 2Fiul lui Saul avea două căpetenii peste cetele de prădători. Unul se numea Baana, iar celălalt se numea Recab. Aceștia erau fiii lui Rimon, din Beerot, din seminția lui Beniamin – Beerot este considerat ca făcând parte din Beniamin 3deoarece beerotiții fugiseră la Ghitaim. Ei au locuit acolo ca străini până în ziua aceasta.
4(Ionatan, fiul lui Saul, avea un fiu care era olog de ambele picioare. Acesta era în vârstă de cinci ani când a sosit din Izreel vestea morții lui Saul și a lui Ionatan. Doica sa l‑a luat și a fugit cu el, însă în graba ei, copilul a căzut și a rămas olog. Numele lui era Mefiboșet).
5Într‑o zi, acești fii ai lui Rimon din Beerot, Recab și Baana, au plecat spre casa lui Iș‑Boșet și au sosit acolo în arșița zilei, tocmai când acesta se odihnea la amiază. 6Au pătruns până în interiorul casei ca și cum ar fi dorit să ia niște grâu și l‑au înjunghiat în stomac. Apoi Recab și fratele său, Baana, au reușit să scape. 7Ei intraseră în casă, în timp ce acesta era culcat pe pat, în dormitorul său. După ce l‑au înjunghiat și l‑au omorât, i‑au tăiat capul. Apoi, luându‑i capul cu ei, au străbătut Araba7 Vezi nota de la 2:29. toată noaptea.
8Au adus capul lui Iș‑Boșet la David, la Hebron, și i‑au zis regelui:
– Iată capul lui Iș‑Boșet, fiul lui Saul, dușmanul tău, care a căutat să‑ți ia viața. Astăzi, Domnul l‑a răzbunat pe stăpânul meu, regele, împotriva lui Saul și a seminței lui.
9David însă le‑a răspuns lui Recab și fratelui său, Baana, fiii lui Rimon din Beerot:
– Viu este Domnul, Care m‑a izbăvit din toate necazurile, 10că pe cel care m‑a înștiințat, zicând: „Iată, Saul este mort!“, crezând că îmi aduce vești bune, l‑am prins și l‑am ucis la Țiklag. Aceasta a fost răsplata pentru vestea pe care mi‑a adus‑o. 11Oare nu voi face cu atât mai mult unor ticăloși care ucid un om drept în casa și în patul său? Prin urmare, să nu cer eu sângele lui din mâna voastră și să nu vă șterg eu de pe fața pământului?
12David le‑a poruncit oamenilor săi, iar aceștia i‑au ucis. Le‑au tăiat mâinile și picioarele și le‑au atârnat trupurile lângă iazul din Hebron. Capul lui Iș‑Boșet însă l‑au luat și l‑au înmormântat în mormântul lui Abner din Hebron.

He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.4.4 Mephibosheth: or, Merib-baal 5And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ish-bosheth, who lay on a bed at noon. 6And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped. 7For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night. 8And they brought the head of Ish-bosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ish-bosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the LORD hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.
9¶ And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity, 10When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:4.10 thinking…: Heb. he was in his own eyes as a bringer, etc4.10 who…: or, which was the reward I gave him for his tidings 11How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth? 12And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.
