Căderea Ierusalimului, distrugerea Casei Domnului și exilul poporului
1În al nouălea an al domniei lui Zedechia, în a zecea zi a lunii a zecea, Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului, a venit împotriva Ierusalimului cu toată armata sa. Ei și‑au așezat tabăra înaintea cetății și au zidit întărituri de jur împrejurul ei. 2Cetatea a fost în stare de asediu până în cel de‑al unsprezecelea an al regelui Zedechia.
3În ziua a noua a lunii a patra3 Vezi Ier. 52:6., foametea din cetate a devenit atât de mare, încât poporul țării nu mai avea nimic de mâncare. 4Atunci s‑a pătruns în cetate, astfel că toți războinicii au fugit noaptea pe poarta dintre cele două ziduri, de lângă grădina regelui, în timp ce caldeenii4 babilonienii; [peste tot în capitol]. înconjurau cetatea. 8În ziua a șaptea a lunii a cincea, în al nouăsprezecelea an8 August 586 î.Cr. al împăratului Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului, Nebuzaradan, căpetenia gărzilor, un slujitor al împăratului Babilonului, a pătruns în Ierusalim. 9El a dat foc Casei Domnului, palatului regelui și tuturor caselor din Ierusalim. El a dat foc tuturor caselor mari. 10Toată armata caldeenilor, care era împreună cu căpetenia gărzilor, a dărâmat zidurile din jurul Ierusalimului. 11Nebuzaradan, căpetenia gărzilor, a dus în captivitate poporul care mai rămăsese în cetate, dezertorii care fugiseră la împăratul Babilonului și restul mulțimii. 12Totuși, căpetenia gărzilor a lăsat în țară câțiva oameni săraci ca să lucreze viile și câmpurile.
13Caldeenii au sfărâmat stâlpii de bronz care erau în Casa Domnului, precum și piedestalele și „marea“ din bronz care erau în Casa Domnului și au dus bronzul la Babilon. 14Au luat vasele, lopețile, mucarnițele, farfuriile și toate uneltele de bronz cu care preoții făceau slujba. 15Căpetenia gărzilor a mai luat fărașele pentru cărbuni și cupele – tot ce era de aur sau de argint. 16Cei doi stâlpi, „marea“ și piedestalele, toate aceste obiecte de bronz pe care le făcuse Solomon pentru Casa Domnului, aveau o greutate care nu se putea cântări. 17Fiecare stâlp era înalt de optsprezece coți17 Aproximativ 9 m. și avea deasupra un capitel de bronz. Înălțimea capitelului era de trei coți17 Aproximativ 1,5 m., capitelul având de jur împrejur o rețea și rodii, toate din bronz. Al doilea stâlp, cu rețeaua lui, era la fel.
18Căpetenia gărzilor i‑a luat prizonieri pe Seraia, preotul conducător, pe Țefania, următorul preot în rang și pe cei trei paznici ai porții. 19Din cetate a luat un demnitar care avea în subordine războinici și încă cinci oameni dintre sfetnicii regelui, care, de asemenea, fuseseră găsiți în cetate. L‑a mai luat pe scribul conducătorului oștirii, care recruta bărbați din poporul țării, și pe încă șaizeci de bărbați din poporul țării, care fuseseră găsiți tot în cetate. 20Nebuzaradan, căpetenia gărzilor, i‑a luat și i‑a dus la împăratul Babilonului, la Ribla. 21Acolo, la Ribla, în țara Hamat, împăratul Babilonului i‑a lovit și i‑a omorât.
Astfel, Iuda a fost dus în captivitate, departe de țara lui.
Guvernarea lui Ghedalia peste Iuda
(Ier. 40:7-9; 41:1-3)
22Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului, l‑a pus conducător peste poporul rămas în țara lui Iuda, – pe care el îl lăsase acolo –, pe Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahikam, fiul lui Șafan. 23Când toți conducătorii oștirilor și oamenii lor au auzit că împăratul Babilonului l‑a pus conducător pe Ghedalia, au venit împreună cu oamenii lor la Ghedalia, la Mițpa. Aceștia erau: Ismael, fiul lui Netania, Iohanan, fiul lui Careah, Seraia, fiul netofatitului Tanhumet și Iaazania, fiul unui maacatit. 24Ghedalia le‑a jurat lor și oamenilor lor și le‑a zis: „Nu vă temeți de slujitorii caldeenilor! Rămâneți în țară, slujiți împăratului Babilonului și vă va fi bine!“
25Dar în luna a șaptea, Ismael, fiul lui Netania, fiul lui Elișama, care era de sămânță regală, a venit împreună cu zece oameni, l‑au lovit pe Ghedalia și acesta a murit. El i‑a ucis și pe iudeii și caldeenii care erau cu acesta la Mițpa. 26Atunci tot poporul, de la mic la mare, și conducătorii oștirilor s‑au ridicat și au plecat în Egipt, pentru că se temeau de caldeeni.
Eliberarea lui Iehoiachin din temniță
(Ier. 52:31-34)
27În al treizeci și șaptelea an de captivitate a lui Iehoiachin, regele lui Iuda, în a douăzeci și șaptea zi a lunii a douăsprezecea, Evil-Merodak27 Cunoscut și ca Amel-Marduk. [562–560 î.Cr.], împăratul Babilonului, în primul an al domniei lui, i‑a înălțat capul lui Iehoiachin, regele lui Iuda, eliberându‑l din temniță. 28I‑a vorbit cu bunătate și i‑a dat un loc de cinste mai presus decât cel al regilor care erau cu el în Babilon. 29Iehoiachin și‑a schimbat hainele de întemnițat și pentru tot restul vieții sale a mâncat la masa împăratului. 30Împăratul s‑a îngrijit necurmat de hrana zilnică a lui Iehoiachin în toate zilele vieții lui.
1And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built forts against it round about. 2And the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. 3And on the ninth day of the fourth month the famine prevailed in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land.

8¶ And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, which is the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzar-adan, captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, unto Jerusalem:25.8 captain…: or, chief marshal 9And he burnt the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great man’s house burnt he with fire. 10And all the army of the Chaldees, that were with the captain of the guard, brake down the walls of Jerusalem round about. 11Now the rest of the people that were left in the city, and the fugitives that fell away to the king of Babylon, with the remnant of the multitude, did Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard carry away.25.11 fugitives: Heb. fallen away 12But the captain of the guard left of the poor of the land to be vinedressers and husbandmen. 13And the pillars of brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the brasen sea that was in the house of the LORD, did the Chaldees break in pieces, and carried the brass of them to Babylon. 14And the pots, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass wherewith they ministered, took they away. 15And the firepans, and the bowls, and such things as were of gold, in gold, and of silver, in silver, the captain of the guard took away. 16The two pillars, one sea, and the bases which Solomon had made for the house of the LORD; the brass of all these vessels was without weight.25.16 one…: Heb. the one sea 17The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits, and the chapiter upon it was brass: and the height of the chapiter three cubits; and the wreathen work, and pomegranates upon the chapiter round about, all of brass: and like unto these had the second pillar with wreathen work.

22¶ And as for the people that remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, even over them he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, ruler. 23And when all the captains of the armies, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, there came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan the son of Careah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men. 24And Gedaliah sware to them, and to their men, and said unto them, Fear not to be the servants of the Chaldees: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon; and it shall be well with you. 25But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at Mizpah.25.25 royal: Heb. of the kingdom 26And all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the armies, arose, and came to Egypt: for they were afraid of the Chaldees.
27¶ And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the year that he began to reign did lift up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison; 28And he spake kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon;25.28 kindly…: Heb. good things with him 29And changed his prison garments: and he did eat bread continually before him all the days of his life. 30And his allowance was a continual allowance given him of the king, a daily rate for every day, all the days of his life.
