Domnia lui Iosia peste Iuda
(2 Cron. 34:1-2, 8-13)
1Iosia era în vârstă de opt ani când a devenit rege și a domnit la Ierusalim timp de treizeci și unu de ani. Mama lui se numea Iedida și era fiica lui Adaia din Boțkat. 2El a făcut ce este drept în ochii Domnului și a umblat pe toată calea tatălui său David, fără a se abate la dreapta sau la stânga.
3În al optsprezecelea an al regelui Iosia, regele l‑a trimis pe scribul său Șafan, fiul lui Ațalia, fiul lui Meșulam, la Casa Domnului, zicându‑i: 4„Suie‑te la marele preot Hilchia și spune‑i să strângă argintul care a fost adus la Casa Domnului, cel care fusese adunat de la popor de către paznicii porții. 5Să se dea acest argint celor ce supraveghează lucrarea la Casa Domnului, iar aceștia să‑l dea lucrătorilor care sunt la Casa Domnului, adică celor ce fac restaurarea Casei: 6tâmplarilor, constructorilor și zidarilor. Să li se mai dea și pentru cumpărarea lemnelor și a pietrelor cioplite necesare pentru restaurarea Casei, 7dar să nu li se ceară socoteală de argintul încredințat lor, căci ei lucrează cu credincioșie.“
Cartea Legii este găsită în Casa Domnului
(2 Cron. 34:14-28)
8Atunci marele preot Hilchia i‑a zis scribului Șafan: „Am găsit Cartea Legii în Casa Domnului!“ Hilchia i‑a dat Cartea lui Șafan, iar acesta a citit‑o. 9Scribul Șafan s‑a dus la rege și i‑a adus regelui următorul mesaj: „Slujitorii tăi au strâns argintul care se afla în Casă și l‑au dat celor ce supraveghează lucrarea la Casa Domnului.“ 10Apoi scribul Șafan l‑a înștiințat pe rege, zicând: „Preotul Hilchia mi‑a dat o Carte.“ Și Șafan a citit din ea înaintea regelui.
11Când a auzit regele cuvintele din Cartea Legii și‑a sfâșiat hainele. 12Și regele le‑a poruncit preotului Hilchia, lui Ahikam, fiul lui Șafan, lui Acbor, fiul lui Micaia, scribului Șafan și lui Asaia, slujitorul regelui, zicând: 13„Duceți‑vă și întrebați‑L pe Domnul pentru mine, pentru popor și pentru întreg Iuda, cu privire la cuvintele Cărții care a fost găsită. Căci mare este mânia Domnului, care s‑a aprins împotriva noastră pentru că părinții noștri n‑au ascultat de cuvintele acestei Cărți și n‑au împlinit tot ce este scris în ea cu privire la noi.“
14Preotul Hilchia, Ahikam, Acbor, Șafan și Asaia s‑au dus la profetesa Hulda, soția lui Șalum, fiul lui Tikva, fiul lui Harhas14 Numit și Hasrah; compară cu 2 Cron. 34:22., păzitorul veșmintelor, care locuia în Ierusalim, în cartierul cel nou14 Sau: al doilea cartier, posibil o zonă a orașului unde locuiau cei mai înstăriți.. Ei au vorbit cu ea, 15și ea le‑a răspuns: „Așa vorbește Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel; să spuneți omului care v‑a trimis la mine, 16că așa vorbește Domnul: «Iată că voi aduce nenorocirea asupra acestui loc și asupra locuitorilor lui, potrivit cu tot ce este scris în Cartea pe care a citit‑o regele lui Iuda. 17Pentru că M‑au părăsit și au adus tămâie altor dumnezei, mâniindu‑Mă prin toată lucrarea mâinilor lor, mânia Mea se va aprinde împotriva acestui loc și nu se va stinge!» 18Totodată spuneți‑i regelui lui Iuda, care v‑a trimis să‑L întrebați pe Domnul, următoarele: «Așa vorbește Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, cu privire la cuvintele pe care le‑ai auzit: 19‘Pentru că ți s‑a înmuiat inima și te‑ai smerit înaintea Domnului, când ai auzit ce am rostit împotriva acestui loc și împotriva locuitorilor lui, – că vor ajunge de spaimă și de blestem, – pentru că ți‑ai sfâșiat hainele și ai plâns înaintea Mea, iată că și Eu am auzit, zice Domnul! 20De aceea, iată că te voi adăuga la părinții tăi și vei fi așezat în pace în mormântul tău, astfel că nu vei vedea toată nenorocirea pe care o voi aduce asupra acestui loc!’»“
Ei i‑au adus regelui răspunsul acesta.
1Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath. 2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
3¶ And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying, 4Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:22.4 door: Heb. threshold 5And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house, 6Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house. 7Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.
8¶ And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. 9And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.22.9 gathered: Heb. melted 10And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
11And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes. 12And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying,22.12 Achbor: or, Abdon22.12 Michaiah: or, Micah 13Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us. 14So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.22.14 wardrobe: Heb. garments22.14 in the…: or, in the second part
15¶ And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me, 16Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read: 17Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched. 18But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard; 19Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD. 20Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
