Profetul Ilie anunță seceta
1Ilie1 Ilie (ebr.: Eliahu) înseamnă Domnul (YHWH) este Dumnezeul meu, nume sugestiv pentru misiunea sa. tișbitul, unul din locuitorii Ghiladului, i‑a zis lui Ahab: „Viu este Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, înaintea Căruia stau, că nu va fi nici rouă, nici ploaie în acești ani decât la cuvântul meu.“
2Apoi Cuvântul Domnului i‑a vorbit lui Ilie, zicând: 3„Pleacă de aici, du‑te spre răsărit și ascunde‑te lângă uedul3-7 Vezi nota de la 2:37. Cherit, care se află la răsărit de Iordan. 4Vei bea apă din ued. Le‑am poruncit corbilor să‑ți asigure hrana acolo.“
5El a făcut potrivit Cuvântului Domnului: s‑a dus și s‑a așezat lângă uedul Cherit, care se află la răsărit de Iordan. 6Corbii îi aduceau pâine și carne dimineața, și pâine și carne seara, iar el bea apă din ued. 7După o vreme însă, uedul a secat, pentru că nu mai plouase în țară.
Ilie și văduva din Sarepta
8Atunci Cuvântul Domnului i‑a vorbit, zicând: 9„Ridică‑te, du‑te la Sarepta care aparține de Sidon și locuiește acolo! Iată, i‑am poruncit unei văduve de acolo să‑ți asigure hrana.“ 10El s‑a ridicat și s‑a dus la Sarepta. Când a ajuns la poarta cetății, iată că acolo era o văduvă care strângea lemne.
El a strigat‑o și a zis:
– Te rog, adu‑mi puțină apă într‑un vas ca să beau!
11Ea a plecat să‑i aducă apă, dar Ilie a strigat‑o și a zis:
– Te rog, adu‑mi și o bucată de pâine în mâna ta!
12Ea a răspuns:
– Viu este Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, că nu am pâine, ci doar un pumn de făină într‑un urcior și puțin ulei într‑un vas. Dar iată, strâng acum două bucăți de lemne, apoi mă voi întoarce acasă și voi pregăti cu acestea pâine pentru mine și pentru fiul meu, ca să mâncăm; după aceea vom muri.
13Ilie i‑a zis:
– Nu te teme. Du‑te și fă precum ai spus. Dar mai întâi fă din ceea ce ai o turtă mică pentru mine și adu‑mi‑o. După aceea vei face și pentru tine și pentru fiul tău, 14căci așa vorbește Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: „Făina din urcior nu se va termina, iar uleiul din vas nu se va împuțina, până în ziua în care Domnul va da ploaie pe fața pământului.“
15Ea s‑a dus și a făcut după cuvântul lui Ilie. Și astfel ea, Ilie și familia ei au avut de mâncare în fiecare zi. 16Făina din urcior nu s‑a terminat și uleiul din vas nu s‑a împuținat, după Cuvântul Domnului rostit prin Ilie.
17După aceea, fiul femeii, stăpâna casei, s‑a îmbolnăvit. S‑a îmbolnăvit atât de grav, încât n‑a mai rămas suflare în el.
18Atunci ea i‑a zis lui Ilie:
– Ce ai împotriva mea, om al lui Dumnezeu? Ai venit aici să‑mi amintești nelegiuirea mea și să aduci moartea fiului meu?
19El i‑a răspuns:
– Dă‑mi‑l pe fiul tău.
L‑a luat din brațele ei, l‑a dus în odaia de sus unde locuia el și l‑a așezat pe patul său. 20Apoi a strigat către Domnul, zicând: „Doamne, Dumnezeul meu, de ce ai adus această nenorocire peste această văduvă la care locuiesc, făcând ca fiul ei să moară?“ 21El s‑a întins de trei ori peste copil și a strigat către Domnul, zicând: „Doamne, Dumnezeul meu, Te rog, fă ca sufletul acestui copil să se întoarcă în lăuntrul lui!“ 22Domnul a ascultat glasul lui Ilie. Sufletul copilului s‑a întors în lăuntrul lui și el a revenit la viață.
23Ilie a luat copilul, l‑a coborât din odaia de sus în casă, i l‑a dat mamei sale și i‑a zis:
– Iată, fiul tău trăiește!
24Femeia i‑a zis lui Ilie:
– Acum știu că ești un om al lui Dumnezeu, iar Cuvântul Domnului este adevăr în gura ta!

And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. 11And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. 12And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. 14For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.17.14 sendeth: Heb. giveth 15And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.17.15 many…: or, a full year 16And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.17.16 by: Heb. by the hand of
17¶ And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him. 18And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? 19And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. 20And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? 21And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.17.21 stretched: Heb. measured17.21 into…: Heb. into his inward parts 22And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. 23And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24¶ And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.
