Shishak attacks Jerusalem
1After Rehoboam’s position as king was established and he had become strong, he and all Israel12:1 That is, Judah, as frequently in 2 Chronicles with him abandoned the law of the Lord. 2Because they had been unfaithful to the Lord, Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem in the fifth year of King Rehoboam. 3With twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen and the innumerable troops of Libyans, Sukkites and Cushites12:3 That is, people from the upper Nile region that came with him from Egypt, 4he captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.
5Then the prophet Shemaiah came to Rehoboam and to the leaders of Judah who had assembled in Jerusalem for fear of Shishak, and he said to them, ‘This is what the Lord says: “You have abandoned me; therefore, I now abandon you to Shishak.” ’
6The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, ‘The Lord is just.’
7When the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, this word of the Lord came to Shemaiah: ‘Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them but will soon give them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak. 8They will, however, become subject to him, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands.’
9When Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem, he carried off the treasures of the temple of the Lord and the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields that Solomon had made. 10So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace. 11Whenever the king went to the Lord’s temple, the guards went with him, bearing the shields, and afterwards they returned them to the guardroom.
12Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the Lord’s anger turned from him, and he was not totally destroyed. Indeed, there was some good in Judah.
13King Rehoboam established himself firmly in Jerusalem and continued as king. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his Name. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite. 14He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the Lord.
15As for the events of Rehoboam’s reign, from beginning to end, are they not written in the records of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer that deal with genealogies? There was continual warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam. 16Rehoboam rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. And Abijah his son succeeded him as king.

1Sa dihang milig-on na ang paghari ni Rehoboam ug gamhanan na siya, gisalikway niya ug sa tibuok Israel ang kasugoan sa Ginoo. 2Tungod kay wala sila magmatinumanon sa Ginoo, gisulong ni Shishak nga hari sa Ehipto ang Jerusalem sa ikalima nga tuig sa paghari ni Rehoboam. 3Misulong si Shishak dala ang 1,200 ka mga karwahe, 60,000 ka mga tigkabayo, ug daghan kaayong mga sundalo, nga ang uban gikan pa sa Libya, Sucot, ug Etiopia. 4Nailog ni Shishak ang pinarilan nga mga lungsod sa Juda ug mipadayon pagsulong ngadto sa Jerusalem.
5Unya miadto si Propeta Shemaya kang Rehoboam ug sa mga pangulo sa Juda nga nagtigom didto sa Jerusalem tungod sa kahadlok kang Shishak. Miingon si Shemaya kanila, “Mao kini ang giingon sa Ginoo: Gisalikway ninyo ako, busa gitugyan ko kamo kang Shishak.”
6Nagpaubos sa ilang kaugalingon ang hari ug ang mga pangulo sa Israel. Miingon sila, “Matarong ang Dios!”
7Sa dihang nakita sa Ginoo nga nagpaubos sila sa ilang kaugalingon, miingon ang Ginoo pinaagi kang Shemaya, “Tungod kay nagpaubos sila sa ilang kaugalingon, dili ko sila laglagon sa hingpit. Hatagan ko silag gamayng kapahulayan. Dili ko ipatagamtam ang akong kasuko sa Jerusalem pinaagi kang Shishak. 8Apan ipasakop ko sila kaniya aron makakat-on sila nga mas maayo ang mag-alagad kanako kaysa mag-alagad sa mga yutan-on nga mga hari.”
9Sa dihang gisulong ni Shishak nga hari sa Ehipto ang Jerusalem, gipanguha niya ang mga bahandi sa templo sa Ginoo ug sa palasyo. Gikuha niya ang tanan, apil ang mga taming nga bulawan nga gipahimo ni Solomon. 10Busa nagpahimo si Haring Rehoboam ug mga taming nga bronsi nga ipuli niadtong mga taming, ug gitugyan niya kini sa mga opisyal sa mga guwardya nga nagabantay sa pultahan sa palasyo. 11Sa matag adto sa hari sa templo sa Ginoo, mouban kaniya ang mga guwardya nga nagadala niini nga mga taming, ug pagkahuman ibalik ra usab nila kini sa kuwarto alang sa mga guwardya.
12Sa dihang nagpaubos si Rehoboam sa iyang kaugalingon, nawala ang kasuko sa Ginoo kaniya, ug wala siya laglaga sa hingpit. Nakasinati usab ug mga kaayohan ang Juda.
13Milig-on ang pagdumala ni Haring Rehoboam ug nagpadayon siya sa paghari didto sa Jerusalem. Nagaedad siya ug 41 ka tuig sa dihang nahimo siyang hari, ug naghari siyag 17 ka tuig sa Jerusalem, ang siyudad nga gipili sa Ginoo gikan sa tanang tribo sa Israel ingon nga dapit diin pasidunggan siya. Ang ngalan sa inahan ni Rehoboam mao si Naama nga usa ka Amonihanon. 14Apan naghimog daotan si Rehoboam tungod kay wala siya magtinguha sa pagdangop sa Ginoo.
15Ang sugilanon mahitungod sa paghari ni Rehoboam, gikan sa sinugdan hangtod sa kataposan, nahisulat sa Libro ni Propeta Shemaya ug sa Libro ni Propeta Iddo, nga kabahin sa listahan sa mga kaliwatan. Sa panahon nga naghari si Rehoboam kanunayng may gira tali kaniya ug kang Jeroboam. 16Sa dihang namatay si Rehoboam, gilubong siya didto sa lungsod ni David.
