Israel Doubts God’s Love
2“I have loved you,” says the Lord.
“But you ask, ‘How have you loved us?’
“Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet I have loved Jacob, 3but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his hill country into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals.”
4Edom may say, “Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins.”
But this is what the Lord Almighty says: “They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the Lord. 5You will see it with your own eyes and say, ‘Great is the Lord—even beyond the borders of Israel!’
Breaking Covenant Through Blemished Sacrifices
6“A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the Lord Almighty.
“It is you priests who show contempt for my name.
“But you ask, ‘How have we shown contempt for your name?’
7“By offering defiled food on my altar.
“But you ask, ‘How have we defiled you?’
“By saying that the Lord’s table is contemptible. 8When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?” says the Lord Almighty.
9“Now plead with God to be gracious to us. With such offerings from your hands, will he accept you?”—says the Lord Almighty.
10“Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you,” says the Lord Almighty, “and I will accept no offering from your hands. 11My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to me, because my name will be great among the nations,” says the Lord Almighty.
12“But you profane it by saying, ‘The Lord’s table is defiled,’ and, ‘Its food is contemptible.’ 13And you say, ‘What a burden!’ and you sniff at it contemptuously,” says the Lord Almighty.
“When you bring injured, lame or diseased animals and offer them as sacrifices, should I accept them from your hands?” says the Lord. 14“Cursed is the cheat who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but then sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord. For I am a great king,” says the Lord Almighty, “and my name is to be feared among the nations.

El amor de Dios por su pueblo
2«Yo os he amado», dice el Señor.
«“¿Y cómo nos has amado?”, replicáis vosotros.
»¿No era Esaú hermano de Jacob? Sin embargo, amé a Jacob 3pero aborrecí a Esaú, y convertí sus montañas en desolación y entregué su heredad a los chacales del desierto».
4Edom dice: «Aunque nos han hecho pedazos, reconstruiremos sobre las ruinas». Pero el Señor Todopoderoso dice: «Ellos podrán reconstruir, pero yo derribaré. Serán llamados territorio malvado, pueblo contra el cual siempre estará indignado el Señor. 5Vosotros lo veréis con vuestros propios ojos y diréis: “¡Se ha engrandecido el Señor incluso más allá de las fronteras1:5 incluso más allá de las fronteras. Alt. sobre el territorio. de Israel!”
El culto al Señor
6»El hijo honra a su padre y el siervo, a su señor. Ahora bien, si soy padre, ¿dónde está el honor que merezco? Y, si soy señor, ¿dónde está el respeto que se me debe? Yo, el Señor Todopoderoso, os pregunto a vosotros, sacerdotes que despreciáis mi nombre.
»Y encima preguntáis: “¿En qué hemos despreciado tu nombre?”
7»Pues en que traéis a mi altar alimento mancillado.
»Y todavía preguntáis: “¿En qué te hemos mancillado?”
»Pues en que tenéis la mesa del Señor como algo despreciable. 8Traéis animales ciegos para el sacrificio, y pensáis que no tiene nada de malo; sacrificáis animales cojos o enfermos, y pensáis que no tiene nada de malo. ¿Por qué no tratáis de ofrecérselos a vuestro gobernante? ¿Creéis que él estaría contento con vosotros? ¿Os ganaríais su favor? —dice el Señor Todopoderoso—.
9»Ahora pues, tratad de apaciguar a Dios para que se apiade de nosotros. ¿Creéis que con esta clase de ofrendas os vais a ganar su favor? —dice el Señor Todopoderoso—. 10¡Cómo quisiera que alguno de vosotros clausurara el templo, para que no encendierais en vano el fuego de mi altar! No estoy nada contento con vosotros —dice el Señor Todopoderoso—, y no voy a aceptar ni una sola ofrenda de vuestras manos. 11Porque, desde donde nace el sol hasta donde se pone, grande es mi nombre entre las naciones. En todo lugar se ofrece incienso y ofrendas puras a mi nombre, porque grande es mi nombre entre las naciones —dice el Señor Todopoderoso—. 12Pero vosotros lo profanáis cuando decís que la mesa del Señor está mancillada y que su alimento es despreciable. 13Y exclamáis: “¡Qué hastío!” Y me tratáis con desdén —dice el Señor Todopoderoso—. ¿Y creéis que voy a aceptar de vuestras manos los animales lesionados, cojos o enfermos que me traéis como sacrificio? —dice el Señor—.
14»¡Maldito sea el tramposo que, teniendo un macho aceptable en su rebaño, se lo dedica al Señor y luego le ofrece un animal mutilado! Porque yo soy el gran rey —dice el Señor Todopoderoso—, y temido es mi nombre entre las naciones.
