Jeremiah and Pashhur
1When the priest Pashhur son of Immer, the official in charge of the temple of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things, 2he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin at the Lord’s temple. 3The next day, when Pashhur released him from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord’s name for you is not Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side. 4For this is what the Lord says: ‘I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends; with your own eyes you will see them fall by the sword of their enemies. I will give all Judah into the hands of the king of Babylon, who will carry them away to Babylon or put them to the sword. 5I will deliver all the wealth of this city into the hands of their enemies—all its products, all its valuables and all the treasures of the kings of Judah. They will take it away as plunder and carry it off to Babylon. 6And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house will go into exile to Babylon. There you will die and be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have prophesied lies.’ ”
Jeremiah’s Complaint
7You deceived20:7 Or persuaded me, Lord, and I was deceived20:7 Or persuaded;
you overpowered me and prevailed.
I am ridiculed all day long;
everyone mocks me.
8Whenever I speak, I cry out
proclaiming violence and destruction.
So the word of the Lord has brought me
insult and reproach all day long.
9But if I say, “I will not mention his word
or speak anymore in his name,”
his word is in my heart like a fire,
a fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary of holding it in;
indeed, I cannot.
10I hear many whispering,
“Terror on every side!
Denounce him! Let’s denounce him!”
All my friends
are waiting for me to slip, saying,
“Perhaps he will be deceived;
then we will prevail over him
and take our revenge on him.”
11But the Lord is with me like a mighty warrior;
so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail.
They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced;
their dishonor will never be forgotten.
12Lord Almighty, you who examine the righteous
and probe the heart and mind,
let me see your vengeance on them,
for to you I have committed my cause.
13Sing to the Lord!
Give praise to the Lord!
He rescues the life of the needy
from the hands of the wicked.
14Cursed be the day I was born!
May the day my mother bore me not be blessed!
15Cursed be the man who brought my father the news,
who made him very glad, saying,
“A child is born to you—a son!”
16May that man be like the towns
the Lord overthrew without pity.
May he hear wailing in the morning,
a battle cry at noon.
17For he did not kill me in the womb,
with my mother as my grave,
her womb enlarged forever.
18Why did I ever come out of the womb
to see trouble and sorrow
and to end my days in shame?
เยเรมีย์และปาชเฮอร์
1เมื่อปุโรหิตปาชเฮอร์บุตรอิมเมอร์ ซึ่งเป็นหัวหน้าใหญ่ดูแลพระวิหารขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ได้ยินเรื่องที่เยเรมีย์กำลังเผยพระวจนะอยู่ 2ก็ให้คนทุบตีผู้เผยพระวจนะเยเรมีย์ และจับกุมตัวใส่ขื่อคาขังไว้ที่ประตูเบนยามินด้านบนของพระวิหารขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า 3เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้น เมื่อปาชเฮอร์มาปล่อยเยเรมีย์ออกจากขื่อคา เยเรมีย์กล่าวกับเขาว่า “ชื่อที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงตั้งให้ท่านไม่ใช่ปาชเฮอร์ แต่เป็นมาโกร์มิสสาบิบ20:3 แปลว่าความสยดสยองรอบด้าน 4เพราะองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสว่า ‘เราจะทำให้เจ้าเป็นที่สยดสยองทั้งแก่ตัวเจ้าเองและแก่เพื่อนฝูงทั้งปวงของเจ้า ตาของเจ้าเองจะเห็นพวกเขาล้มตายด้วยคมดาบของเหล่าศัตรู เราจะมอบยูดาห์ไว้ในเงื้อมมือกษัตริย์บาบิโลน ซึ่งจะกวาดต้อนพวกเขาไปยังบาบิโลนหรือฆ่าทิ้ง 5เราจะมอบทรัพย์สมบัติทั้งปวงของกรุงนี้แก่ศัตรูของพวกเขา ได้แก่ผลิตผลทั้งปวง ทรัพย์สินมีค่าและสมบัติทั้งสิ้นของบรรดากษัตริย์ยูดาห์ ศัตรูจะปล้นและริบไปยังบาบิโลน 6ส่วนเจ้า ปาชเฮอร์และทุกคนในครัวเรือนของเจ้าจะต้องไปเป็นเชลยที่บาบิโลน ตายและฝังที่นั่น ทั้งตัวเจ้าและเพื่อนๆที่เจ้าพยากรณ์เท็จให้ฟัง’ ”
เยเรมีย์คร่ำครวญ
7ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระองค์ทรงหลอกลวงข้าพระองค์และข้าพระองค์ก็ถูกหลอกให้ตายใจ
พระองค์เหนือกว่าข้าพระองค์และทรงชนะข้าพระองค์
ข้าพระองค์ถูกหัวเราะเยาะวันยังค่ำ
ทุกคนเย้ยหยันข้าพระองค์
8เมื่อใดที่พูด ข้าพระองค์เป็นต้องป่าวร้อง
ประกาศความรุนแรงและความพินาศย่อยยับ
ฉะนั้นพระดำรัสขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า
ทำให้ข้าพระองค์ถูกเย้ยหยันและถูกติเตียนวันยังค่ำ
9แต่หากข้าพระองค์จะกล่าวว่า “ข้าพระองค์จะไม่พูดถึงพระองค์
หรือไม่พูดอะไรในพระนามของพระองค์อีกต่อไป”
พระดำรัสของพระองค์ในจิตใจของข้าพระองค์
ก็เป็นเหมือนไฟที่แผดเผาอยู่ในกระดูก
และข้าพระองค์หมดเรี่ยวหมดแรงที่จะทนเก็บไว้ได้
ข้าพระองค์เก็บไว้ไม่ได้จริงๆ
10ข้าพระองค์ได้ยินเสียงซุบซิบหนาหูว่า
“ความสยดสยองอยู่รอบด้าน!
ให้เรารายงานเรื่องเขา! รายงานเรื่องเขา!”
เพื่อนๆ ของข้าพระองค์
คอยให้ข้าพระองค์พลาดล้ม พวกเขาพูดว่า
“บางทีเขาอาจจะถูกหลอก
แล้วเราจะชนะเขา
และแก้แค้นเขาได้”
11แต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงอยู่เคียงข้างข้าพระองค์ประหนึ่งนักรบผู้เกรียงไกร
ฉะนั้นบรรดาผู้ข่มเหงข้าพระองค์จะล้มลงและไม่ชนะ
พวกเขาจะล้มเหลวและอัปยศอดสู
พวกเขาจะถูกตราหน้าและเสียเกียรติตลอดไป
12ข้าแต่พระยาห์เวห์ผู้ทรงฤทธิ์ พระองค์ทรงพิเคราะห์ผู้ชอบธรรม
ทรงพินิจดูความคิดจิตใจ
ขอโปรดให้ข้าพระองค์เห็นพระองค์ทรงแก้แค้นคนเหล่านี้
เพราะข้าพระองค์ได้มอบเรื่องราวของข้าพระองค์ไว้กับพระองค์แล้ว
13จงร้องเพลงถวายแด่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า!
จงสรรเสริญองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า!
พระองค์ทรงกู้ชีวิตของผู้ขัดสน
จากเงื้อมมือของคนชั่ว
14ขอแช่งวันที่ข้าพเจ้าถือกำเนิดมา!
ขออย่าให้วันที่แม่คลอดข้าพเจ้าออกมานั้นได้รับพร!
15ขอแช่งคนที่นำข่าวไปบอกพ่อของข้าพเจ้า
คนที่ทำให้พ่อของข้าพเจ้าดีใจมาก
โดยบอกว่า “ท่านได้ลูกชายแล้ว!”
16ขอให้คนนั้นเป็นเหมือนเมืองต่างๆ
ที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงคว่ำทลายโดยปราศจากความเมตตาสงสาร
ขอให้เขาได้ยินเสียงร่ำไห้ในยามเช้า
เสียงโห่ร้องทำศึกยามเที่ยงวัน
17เนื่องจากเขาไม่ฆ่าข้าพเจ้าเสียตั้งแต่อยู่ในครรภ์
ให้ท้องของแม่เป็นหลุมฝังศพของข้าพเจ้า
ให้ท้องของแม่โตอยู่อย่างนั้นตลอดไป
18ทำไมหนอข้าพเจ้าจึงออกมาจากท้องแม่
ต้องเห็นความทุกข์โศกลำเค็ญ
และชีวิตหมดไปกับความอัปยศอดสู?
