A Prophecy Against Egypt and Cush
1In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it— 2at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.” And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot.
3Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,20:3 That is, the upper Nile region; also in verse 5 4so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared—to Egypt’s shame. 5Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame. 6In that day the people who live on this coast will say, ‘See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?’ ”
نبوت دربارهٔ مصر و حبشه
1سرگن، پادشاه آشور، سردار سپاه خود را به شهر اشدود در فلسطين فرستاد و آن را تسخير كرد. 2سه سال پيش از اين رويداد، خداوند به اشعيا پسر آموص فرموده بود كه لباس و كفش خود را از تن در بياورد و عريان و پا برهنه راه برود، و اشعيا چنين كرد. 3هنگامی كه اشدود به دست آشور افتاد خداوند فرمود: «خدمتگزار من اشعيا مدت سه سال عريان و پا برهنه راه رفته است. اين نشانهٔ بلاهای هولناكی است كه من بر مصر و حبشه خواهم آورد. 4پادشاه آشور مردم مصر و حبشه را اسير خواهد كرد و كوچک و بزرگ را مجبور خواهد ساخت عريان و پا برهنه راه بروند تا مصر را رسوا كند. 5-6آنگاه مردمی كه در سواحل فلسطين زندگی می‌كنند و تكيه‌گاهشان حبشه، و فخرشان مصر است، پريشان و رسوا شده، خواهند گفت: ”اگر بر سر مصر كه می‌خواستيم از دست آشور به او پناه ببريم چنين بلايی آمد، پس بر سر ما چه خواهد آمد؟“»
