God’s Final Word: His Son
1In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
The Son Superior to Angels
5For to which of the angels did God ever say,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father”1:5 Psalm 2:7?
Or again,
“I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son”1:5 2 Samuel 7:14; 1 Chron. 17:13?
6And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”1:6 Deut. 32:43 (see Dead Sea Scrolls and Septuagint)
7In speaking of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels spirits,
and his servants flames of fire.”1:7 Psalm 104:4
8But about the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.”1:9 Psalm 45:6,7
10He also says,
“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
11They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
12You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.”1:12 Psalm 102:25-27
13To which of the angels did God ever say,
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet”1:13 Psalm 110:1?
14Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

御子と天使
1神は昔、幻や夢や、時には直接の啓示などいろいろな方法で、預言者を通してご自分の計画を少しずつ明らかになさいました。 2しかし今の時代には、ご自分の御子（イエス・キリスト）を通して語っておられます。神は、彼によって世界とその中のすべてのものをお造りになり、その御子にすべてを受け継がせたのです。 3御子は神の栄光を受けて、まばゆいばかりに輝いています。また、その人格と行動すべてにおいて神であることを示し、力あることばによって万物を治めておられます。そればかりか、私たちのすべての罪の記録を消し去ってきよめるために死んでくださいました。そして今は、最高の栄誉を受けて、天におられる偉大な神のそばにいらっしゃるのです。 4こうして、父なる神がお与えになった「神の御子」という名が、天使たちの名よりさらにすぐれていたように、この方は天使よりもはるかにまさった存在となりました。
5神はどの天使に対しても、「あなたはわたしの子。今日、わたしがあなたを生んだ」（詩篇2・7）などと言われたことはありません。しかし、イエスに対しては、そう言われたのです。さらに、「わたしは彼の父となり、彼はわたしの子となる」（Ⅱサムエル7・14）と宣言されました。 6それから、長子であるイエスを地上に送る時、「天使はみな、彼を拝め」と言われました。 7天使たちについて神は、「風のように速い使者、燃える炎のような力を持つしもべ」（詩篇114・4）と紹介しましたが、 8御子についてはこう言われました。
「神（神の子）よ。あなたの国は永遠に続く。
その支配は、いつも公平で正しい。
9あなたは正義を愛し、悪を憎む。
それであなたの神（父なる神）は、
ほかのだれよりも多く、
あなたに喜びを注がれた。」（詩篇45・6-7）
10また、御子を「主」と呼んで、こう言われました。
「主よ。あなたは世の初めに地を造った。
天も、あなたの手による作品である。
11これらは、やがて無に返る。
しかしあなたは、いつまでも変わらない。
すべてのものは、古着のようにすり切れる。
12いつかあなたは、それらを捨て、
別のものと取り替える。
しかしあなたは、決して変わらず、
あなたの年には終わりがない。」（詩篇102・25―27）
13神が天使に、次のようなことばをおかけになったことがありますか。
「わたしがあなたの敵を
完全に征服するまで、
わたしの右に座っていなさい。」（詩篇110・1）
14天使は、救われる人々を助けるために遣わされた、霊の使者なのです。
