Idolatry in the Temple
1In the sixth year, in the sixth month on the fifth day, while I was sitting in my house and the elders of Judah were sitting before me, the hand of the Sovereign Lord came on me there. 2I looked, and I saw a figure like that of a man.8:2 Or saw a fiery figure From what appeared to be his waist down he was like fire, and from there up his appearance was as bright as glowing metal. 3He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood. 4And there before me was the glory of the God of Israel, as in the vision I had seen in the plain.
5Then he said to me, “Son of man, look toward the north.” So I looked, and in the entrance north of the gate of the altar I saw this idol of jealousy.
6And he said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they are doing—the utterly detestable things the Israelites are doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see things that are even more detestable.”
7Then he brought me to the entrance to the court. I looked, and I saw a hole in the wall. 8He said to me, “Son of man, now dig into the wall.” So I dug into the wall and saw a doorway there.
9And he said to me, “Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here.” 10So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and unclean animals and all the idols of Israel. 11In front of them stood seventy elders of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.
12He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, ‘The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.’ ” 13Again, he said, “You will see them doing things that are even more detestable.”
14Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and I saw women sitting there, mourning the god Tammuz. 15He said to me, “Do you see this, son of man? You will see things that are even more detestable than this.”
16He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east.
17He said to me, “Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the people of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually arouse my anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose! 18Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.”
Ang Pagsimba sa mga Dios-dios sa Jerusalem
1Sa ikalima nga adlaw sa ikaunom nga bulan, niadtong ikaunom nga tuig sa amo nga pagkabihag, gigamhan ako sa Ginoo nga Dios. Naglingkod ako niadto sa akong balay diin nakigsulti kanako ang mga pangulo sa Juda. 2May nakita akong morag tawo. Gikan sa iyang hawak paubos nahisama sa kalayo, ug gikan sa iyang hawak pataas nahisama sa naggilak-gilak nga metal. 3Gituy-od niya ang iyang daw kamot ug gikuptan ako sa buhok. Gialsa ako sa Espiritu ngadto sa kahanginan ug gidala sa Jerusalem, sa pultahan sa amihan nga bahin sa hawanan nga anaa lang sa gawas sa templo, diin nahimutang ang usa ka dios-dios nga nakapasuko pag-ayo sa Dios. 4Unya nakita ko didto ang gamhanan nga presensya sa Dios sa Israel, sama sa akong nakita didto sa kapatagan.
5Unya miingon ang Dios kanako, “Tawo, tan-aw dapit sa amihan.” Busa mitan-aw ako didto, ug nakita ko sa tapad sa pultahan duol sa halaran ang dios-dios nga nakapasuko pag-ayo sa Dios. 6Unya miingon ang Dios kanako, “Tawo, nakita mo ba ang ginahimo sa katawhan sa Israel? Nakita mo ba ang labihan kangil-ad nga ginahimo nila dinhi aron sa pag-abog kanako gikan sa akong templo? Apan may makita ka pa gyud nga labaw pa niana kangil-ad nga mga binuhatan.”
7Unya gidala niya ako ngadto sa pultahan sa hawanan sa templo. Ug pagtan-aw ko, may nakita akong bangag sa paril. 8Miingon siya kanako, “Tawo, padakoa ang bangag sa paril.” Busa gihimo ko kini, ug nakita ko ang usa ka pultahan. 9Miingon na usab siya kanako, “Sulod ug tan-awa ang labihan kangil-ad nga mga butang nga ilang ginahimo.” 10Busa misulod ako ug akong nakita nga ang paril napuno sa nagkalain-laing mga larawan sa mananap nga mokamang ug sa uban pang mga mananap nga giisip nga hugaw. Nakita ko usab didto ang tanang mga dios-dios sa katawhan sa Israel. 11Sa atubangan niini, nakita ko nga nagtindog ang 70 ka mga pangulo sa Israel, ug usa kanila mao si Jaazania nga anak ni Shafan. Ang kada usa nagkupot ug sudlanan sa insenso, ug mipaibabaw ang aso sa insenso.
12Unya miingon ang Dios kanako, “Tawo, nakita mo ba kon unsa ang ginahimo sa tago sa mga tigdumala sa Israel? Ang matag usa kanila anaa sa kuwarto sa iyang dios-dios kay nagaingon sila, ‘Wala magtan-aw kanato ang Ginoo; gisalikway na niya ang Israel.’ ”
13Miingon na usab ang Dios, “Makakita ka pa gyud ug labaw pa niana kangil-ad nga ilang ginabuhat.” 14Unya gidala niya ako sa amihan nga dapit nga pultahan sa templo sa Ginoo, ug didto nakita ko ang mga babaye nga nagalingkod ug nagahilak alang sa dios nga si Tamuz. 15Miingon ang Dios kanako, “Tawo, nakita mo ba kana? Makakita ka pa gyud ug labaw pa niana kangil-ad nga mga buhat.”
16Unya gidala niya ako sa sulod nga hawanan sa templo sa Ginoo. Ug didto sa pultahan sa templo, sa tunga-tunga sa balkon ug halaran, adunay 25 ka tawo. Nagatalikod sila sa templo, ug nagaatuban nga sa sidlakan ug nagasimba sa nagasuban nga adlaw.
17Unya miingon ang Dios kanako, “Tawo, nakita mo ba kana? Wala lang bay kaso sa katawhan sa Juda ang paghimo nianang mangil-ad nga mga butang dinhi? Gawas pa niana, naghatag pa silag kasamok sa nasod, busa gipasuko nila ako pag-ayo. Tan-awa kon giunsa nila ako pagpasipala! 18Busa ipasinati ko kanila ang akong kasuko. Dili ko gyud sila kaloy-an. Bisag mosinggit pa silag kusog aron sa pagpangayo ug tabang kanako, dili ko sila pamation.”
