The Ten Commandments
1And God spoke all these words:
2“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3“You shall have no other gods before20:3 Or besides me.
4“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
13“You shall not murder.
14“You shall not commit adultery.
15“You shall not steal.
16“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
18When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance 19and said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.”
20Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”
21The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
Idols and Altars
22Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites this: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven: 23Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.
24“ ‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. 25If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. 26And do not go up to my altar on steps, or your private parts may be exposed.’
ده فرمان
(تثنيه 5:1-21)
1خدا با موسی سخن گفت و اين احكام را صادر كرد:
2«من خداوند، خدای تو هستم، همان خدايی كه تو را از اسارت و بندگی مصر آزاد كرد.
3«تو را خدايان ديگر غير از من نباشد.
4«هيچگونه بتی به شكل حيوان يا پرنده يا ماهی برای خود درست نكن. 5در برابر آنها زانو نزن و آنها را پرستش نكن، زيرا من كه خداوند، خدای تو می‌باشم، خدای غيوری هستم و كسانی را كه با من دشمنی كنند، مجازات می‌كنم. اين مجازات، شامل حال فرزندان آنها تا نسل سوم و چهارم نيز می‌گردد. 6اما بر كسانی كه مرا دوست داشته باشند و دستورات مرا پيروی كنند، تا هزار پشت رحمت می‌كنم.
7«از نام من كه خداوند، خدای تو هستم سوءاستفاده نكن. اگر نام مرا با بی‌احترامی به زبان بياوری يا به آن قسم دروغ بخوری، تو را مجازات می‌كنم.
8«روز سبت را به ياد داشته باش و آن را مقدس بدار. 9در هفته شش روز كار كن، 10ولی در روز هفتم كه ”سبت خداوند“ است هيچ كار نكن، نه خودت، نه پسرت، نه دخترت، نه غلامت، نه كنيزت، نه مهمانانت و نه چارپايانت. 11چون خداوند در شش روز، آسمان و زمين و دريا و هر چه را كه در آنهاست آفريد و روز هفتم دست از كار كشيد. پس او روز سبت را مبارک خواند و آن را روز استراحت تعيين نمود.
12«پدر و مادرت را احترام كن تا در سرزمينی كه خداوند، خدای تو به تو خواهد بخشيد، عمر طولانی داشته باشی.
13«قتل نكن.
14«زنا نكن.
15«دزدی نكن.
16«دروغ نگو.
17«چشم طمع به مال و ناموس ديگران نداشته باش. به فكر تصاحب غلام و كنيز، گاو و الاغ، و اموال همسايه‌ات نباش.»
18وقتی قوم اسرائيل رعد و برق و بالا رفتن دود را از كوه ديدند و صدای شيپور را شنيدند، از ترس لرزيدند. آنها در فاصله‌ای دور از كوه ايستادند و 19به موسی گفتند:
«تو پيام خدا را بگير و به ما برسان و ما اطاعت می‌كنيم. خدا مستقيماً با ما صحبت نكند، چون می‌ترسيم بميريم.»
20موسی گفت: «نترسيد، چون خدا برای اين نزول كرده، كه قدرت خود را بر شما ظاهر سازد تا از اين پس از او بترسيد و گناه نكنيد.»
21در حالی که همهٔ قوم آنجا ايستاده بودند، ديدند كه موسی به ظلمت غليظی كه خدا در آن بود، نزديک شد.
مقررات قربانگاه
22آنگاه خداوند از موسی خواست تا به قوم اسرائيل چنين بگويد:
«شما خود ديديد چگونه از آسمان با شما صحبت كردم، 23پس ديگر برای خود خدايانی از طلا و نقره نسازيد و آنها را پرستش نكنيد. 24قربانگاهی كه برای من می‌سازيد بايد از خاک زمين باشد. از گله و رمهٔ خود قربانیهای سوختنی و هدايای سلامتی روی اين قربانگاه قربانی كنيد. در جايی كه من برای عبادت تعيين می‌كنم قربانگاه بسازيد تا من آمده، شما را در آنجا بركت دهم. 25اگر خواستيد قربانگاه را از سنگ بنا كنيد، سنگها را با ابزار نشكنيد و نتراشيد، چون سنگهايی كه روی آنها ابزار به کار رفته باشد مناسب قربانگاه من نيستند. 26برای قربانگاه، پله نگذاريد مبادا وقتی از پله‌ها بالا می‌رويد عورت شما ديده شود.
