Invest in Many Ventures
1Ship your grain across the sea;
after many days you may receive a return.
2Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;
you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.
3If clouds are full of water,
they pour rain on the earth.
Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
4Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.
5As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed11:5 Or know how life (or the spirit) / enters the body being formed in a mother’s womb,
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.
6Sow your seed in the morning,
and at evening let your hands not be idle,
for you do not know which will succeed,
whether this or that,
or whether both will do equally well.
Remember Your Creator While Young
7Light is sweet,
and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.
8However many years anyone may live,
let them enjoy them all.
But let them remember the days of darkness,
for there will be many.
Everything to come is meaningless.
9You who are young, be happy while you are young,
and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart
and whatever your eyes see,
but know that for all these things
God will bring you into judgment.
10So then, banish anxiety from your heart
and cast off the troubles of your body,
for youth and vigor are meaningless.
Wer nicht wagt, der nicht gewinnt!
1Setz dein Hab und Gut ein, um Handel zu treiben, und eines Tages wird es dir Gewinn bringen.11,1 Wörtlich: Lass dein Brot über das Wasser fahren, dann wirst du es wiederfinden nach langer Zeit. – Die Bedeutung dieses Sprichwortes ist unsicher. 2Verteil deinen Besitz auf möglichst viele Stellen, denn du weißt nicht, ob ein großes Unglück über das Land kommt und alles zerstört.
3Wenn die Wolken voll Wasser sind, wird es auch regnen, und wohin ein Baum fällt, dort bleibt er liegen.
4Wer immer nur auf das passende Wetter wartet, wird nie säen; und wer ängstlich auf jede Wolke schaut, wird nie ernten.
5Du weißt nicht, aus welcher Richtung der Wind kommen wird; du siehst nicht, wie ein Kind im Mutterleib Gestalt annimmt. Ebenso wenig kannst du die Taten Gottes ergründen, der alles bewirkt.
6Säe am Morgen deine Saat aus, leg aber auch am Abend die Hände nicht in den Schoß! Denn du weißt nicht, ob das eine oder das andere gedeiht – oder vielleicht sogar beides zusammen!
Genieß deine Jugend!
7Wie schön ist es, am Leben zu sein und das Licht der Sonne zu sehen! 8Freu dich über jedes neue Jahr, das du erleben darfst! Auch wenn noch viele vor dir liegen – denk daran, dass die Dunkelheit danach lange dauert! Alles, was dann kommt, ist vergeblich!
9Du junger Mensch, genieße deine Jugend und freu dich in der Blüte deines Lebens! Tu, was dein Herz dir sagt und was deinen Augen gefällt! Aber sei dir bewusst, dass Gott dich für alles zur Rechenschaft ziehen wird! 10Lass dich nicht von Kummer und Sorgen beherrschen und halte allen Schmerz von dir fern! Denn Jugend und Frische11,10 Wörtlich: und Schwärze (= dunkles Haar). sind vergänglich.
