The Altar on Mount Ebal
1Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all these commands that I give you today. 2When you have crossed the Jordan into the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster. 3Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and coat them with plaster. 5Build there an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool on them. 6Build the altar of the Lord your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. 7Sacrifice fellowship offerings there, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the Lord your God. 8And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up.”
Curses From Mount Ebal
9Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Be silent, Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the Lord your God. 10Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.”
11On the same day Moses commanded the people:
12When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin. 13And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.
14The Levites shall recite to all the people of Israel in a loud voice:
15“Cursed is anyone who makes an idol—a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of skilled hands—and sets it up in secret.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
16“Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
17“Cursed is anyone who moves their neighbor’s boundary stone.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
18“Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
19“Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
20“Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he dishonors his father’s bed.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
21“Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
22“Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
23“Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his mother-in-law.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
24“Cursed is anyone who kills their neighbor secretly.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
25“Cursed is anyone who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
26“Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
بنای يادبود بر كوه عيبال
1آنگاه موسی و ريش‌سفيدان اسرائيل، اين دستورات را نيز به قوم دادند و از آنها خواستند تا آنها را بجا آورند:
2-4«وقتی كه از رود اردن عبور كرديد و به سرزمين موعود يعنی به سرزمينی كه شير و عسل در آن جاری است رسيديد، سنگهای بزرگی از كف رودخانه بيرون آوريد و آنها را به صورت بنای يادبودی در آن طرف رودخانه بر كوه عيبال بر روی يكديگر قرار دهيد. روی سنگها را با گچ بپوشانيد و سپس قوانين خداوند را بر آن بنويسيد. 5-6در آنجا يک قربانگاه با سنگهای نتراشيده كه ابزار آهنی بر آنها نخورده باشد برای خداوند، خدايتان بسازيد و قربانیهای سوختنی برای خداوند، خدايتان بر آن تقديم كنيد. 7قربانیهای سلامتی را نيز بر روی آن ذبح كرده، بخوريد و در همانجا در حضور خداوند، خدايتان شادی كنيد. 8كليهٔ اين قوانين را با خط خوانا روی بنای يادبود بنويسيد.»
9آنگاه موسی به همراهی كاهنان لاوی خطاب به تمام بنی‌اسرائيل گفت: «ای اسرائيل بشنو! امروز تو قوم خداوند، خدايت شده‌ای. 10بنابراين بايد از خداوند، خدای خود پيروی نمايی و قوانين او را كه امروز به تو می‌دهم اطاعت كنی.»
لعنتها
11در همان روز موسی اين دستور را به قوم اسرائيل داد:
12پس از عبور از رود اردن، قبايل شمعون، لاوی، يهودا، يساكار، يوسف و بنيامين بايد بر روی كوه جَرِزيم بايستند و بركات را اعلام كنند 13و قبايل رئوبين، جاد، اشير، زبولون، دان و نفتالی بايد بر كوه عيبال بايستند و لعنتها را اعلام كنند. 14آنگاه لاویان كه در بين آنها ايستاده‌اند با صدای بلند به تمام بنی‌اسرائيل بگويند:
15«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه بتی از سنگ، چوب يا فلز بسازد و مخفيانه آن را پرستش كند، زيرا خداوند از بت‌پرستی متنفر است.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
16«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه نسبت به پدر و مادرش بی‌احترامی كند.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
17«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه مرز بين زمين خودش و همسايه‌اش را تغيير دهد.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
18«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه شخص نابينا را از راه، منحرف كند.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
19«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه نسبت به غريبان، يتيمان و بيوه‌زنان بی‌عدالتی نمايد.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
20«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه با زن پدرش همبستر شود، چون آن زن به پدرش تعلق دارد.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
21«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه با حيوانی رابطهٔ جنسی برقرار كند.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
22«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه با خواهر خود، چه تنی و چه ناتنی، همبستر شود.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
23«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه با مادر زن خود همبستر شود.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
24«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه مخفيانه مرتكب قتل شود.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
25«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه رشوه بگيرد تا فرد بی‌گناهی را به قتل برساند.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
26«لعنت خدا بر كسی كه قوانين و دستورات خدا را اطاعت نكند.»
و تمامی قوم بگويند: «آمين.»
