2He said:
“The Lord roars from Zion
and thunders from Jerusalem;
the pastures of the shepherds dry up,
and the top of Carmel withers.”
Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors
3This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Damascus,
even for four, I will not relent.
Because she threshed Gilead
with sledges having iron teeth,
4I will send fire on the house of Hazael
that will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.
5I will break down the gate of Damascus;

The people of Aram will go into exile to Kir,”
says the Lord.
6This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Gaza,
even for four, I will not relent.

and sold them to Edom,
7I will send fire on the walls of Gaza
that will consume her fortresses.
8I will destroy the king1:8 Or inhabitants of Ashdod
and the one who holds the scepter in Ashkelon.
I will turn my hand against Ekron,
till the last of the Philistines are dead,”
says the Sovereign Lord.
9This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Tyre,
even for four, I will not relent.

10I will send fire on the walls of Tyre
that will consume her fortresses.”
11This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Edom,
even for four, I will not relent.

12I will send fire on Teman
that will consume the fortresses of Bozrah.”
13This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Ammon,

14I will set fire to the walls of Rabbah
that will consume her fortresses
amid war cries on the day of battle,
amid violent winds on a stormy day.

1Estas são as mensagens de Amós, pastor de gado, que vivia na povoação de Tecoa. Um dia, numa visão, Deus contou-lhe algumas das coisas que haveriam de acontecer à nação de Israel. Sucedeu isto no tempo de Uzias, rei de Judá, no tempo em que Jeroboão, o filho de Jeoás, era rei em Israel; foi dois anos antes do terramoto.
Julgamento sobre os vizinhos de Israel
2Eis o relato daquilo que ele viu e ouviu: A voz do Senhor fez-se ouvir como um bramido de um leão feroz; desde o seu templo, desde Sião, clamou. E de repente as luxuriantes pastagens do monte Carmelo secaram e morreram; todos os pastores se lamentaram.
3Diz o Senhor: “O povo de Damasco pecou repetidamente e não poderei perdoar-lhe. Não deixarei passar mais tempo sem o castigar. Trilharam o meu povo em Gileade como numa eira, fizeram-no com varas de ferro. 4Por isso, porei fogo ao palácio do rei Hazael e destruirei as fortalezas de Ben-Hadade. 5Quebrarei os ferrolhos que trancam as entradas de Damasco; matarei o morador do vale de Aven, o que tem o poder em Bete-Éden, e o povo de Aram voltará para Quir como escravos.” Assim falou o Senhor.
6Diz o Senhor: “Gaza pecou continuamente e não poderei perdoar-lhe. Não os deixarei mais tempo sem castigo, porque enviaram um povo inteiro para o exílio, vendendo-o como escravos para Edom. 7Por isso, porei fogo às muralhas de Gaza e todas as suas fortalezas serão destruídas. 8Matarei o povo de Asdode; destruirei Ecrom e o rei de Asquelom; todos os filisteus que tiverem ficado perecerão.” Isto disse o Senhor Deus!
9Diz o Senhor: “O povo de Tiro pecou repetidamente e não lhe perdoarei. Não os deixarei mais tempo sem castigo, porque quebraram a sua aliança de fraternidade; atacaram e levaram um povo inteiro para a escravidão em Edom. 10Por isso, porei fogo às muralhas de Tiro e todas as suas fortalezas e palácios arderão.”
11Diz o Senhor: “Edom pecou sem cessar; não lhe perdoarei. Não os deixarei continuar sem castigo. Perseguiram o seu irmão Israel com a espada; a sua ira foi sem descanso, não conheceram a piedade. 12Por isso, porei fogo a Temã que consumirá todas as fortalezas de Bozra.”
13Diz o Senhor: “O povo de Amon não tem parado de pecar e não lhe perdoarei. Não ficará mais tempo sem castigo. Porque nas suas guerras em Gileade, para alargar as suas fronteiras, cometeram crimes cruéis, dilacerando mulheres grávidas à espada. 14Por isso, porei fogo aos muros de Rabá que consumirá as suas fortalezas; ouvir-se-ão os brados de combate, como um redemoinho numa grande tempestade. 15O seu rei e os seus governantes irão juntamente para o exílio.” Isto disse o Senhor.
