Solomon’s Other Activities
1At the end of twenty years, during which Solomon built the temple of the Lord and his own palace, 2Solomon rebuilt the villages that Hiram8:2 Hebrew Huram, a variant of Hiram; also in verse 18 had given him, and settled Israelites in them. 3Solomon then went to Hamath Zobah and captured it. 4He also built up Tadmor in the desert and all the store cities he had built in Hamath. 5He rebuilt Upper Beth Horon and Lower Beth Horon as fortified cities, with walls and with gates and bars, 6as well as Baalath and all his store cities, and all the cities for his chariots and for his horses8:6 Or charioteers—whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon and throughout all the territory he ruled.
7There were still people left from the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites (these people were not Israelites). 8Solomon conscripted the descendants of all these people remaining in the land—whom the Israelites had not destroyed—to serve as slave labor, as it is to this day. 9But Solomon did not make slaves of the Israelites for his work; they were his fighting men, commanders of his captains, and commanders of his chariots and charioteers. 10They were also King Solomon’s chief officials—two hundred and fifty officials supervising the men.
11Solomon brought Pharaoh’s daughter up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her, for he said, “My wife must not live in the palace of David king of Israel, because the places the ark of the Lord has entered are holy.”
12On the altar of the Lord that he had built in front of the portico, Solomon sacrificed burnt offerings to the Lord, 13according to the daily requirement for offerings commanded by Moses for the Sabbaths, the New Moons and the three annual festivals—the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles. 14In keeping with the ordinance of his father David, he appointed the divisions of the priests for their duties, and the Levites to lead the praise and to assist the priests according to each day’s requirement. He also appointed the gatekeepers by divisions for the various gates, because this was what David the man of God had ordered. 15They did not deviate from the king’s commands to the priests or to the Levites in any matter, including that of the treasuries.
16All Solomon’s work was carried out, from the day the foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid until its completion. So the temple of the Lord was finished.
17Then Solomon went to Ezion Geber and Elath on the coast of Edom. 18And Hiram sent him ships commanded by his own men, sailors who knew the sea. These, with Solomon’s men, sailed to Ophir and brought back four hundred and fifty talents8:18 That is, about 17 tons or about 15 metric tons of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.

1솔로몬이 여호와의 성전과 자기 궁전을 짓는 데 20년이 걸렸다.

6그는 또 바알랏과 여러 국고성을 짓고 전차와 말을 수용할 성들을 세웠으며 예루살렘과 레바논과 그의 전 영토에 자기가 짓고 싶은 것을 모두 건축하였다.
7-8솔로몬은 이스라엘 사람들이 가나안 땅 을 점령했을 때 그들이 완전히 죽이지 않고 살려 둔 가나안 사람들의 모든 후손들에게 강제 노동을 시켰다. 이들의 조상들은 헷족, 아모리족, 브리스족, 히위족, 여부스족이었으며 살아 남은 이들 후손들은 계속 사역군으로 일하며 살았다.
9그러나 솔로몬이 이스라엘 백성은 사역군으로 삼지 않고 사병, 군 지휘관, 전차 부대와 기병대 대장으로 삼았다.
10그리고 그는 이스라엘 사람 250명을 뽑아 이 사역군들의 업무를 감독하게 하였다.
11솔로몬은 그의 아내인 바로의 딸을 예루살렘의 다윗성에서 새로 지은 궁전으로 이사를 시키고 이렇게 말하였다. “내 아내는 다윗궁에 살아서는 안 된다. 이것은 여호와의 궤가 있던 그 곳이 거룩한 땅이기 때문이다.”
12솔로몬은 성전 현관 앞에 쌓은 여호와의 단에 번제를 드렸는데
13그는 모세가 지시한 대로 매일 드리는 제사 외에도 안식일과 매월 초하루와 또 연례적으로 지키는 세 명절, 곧 누룩 넣지 않은 빵을 먹는 무교절과 8:13 암시됨.오순절이라고도 부르는 칠칠절과 그리고 초막절에도 번제를 드렸다.
14또 솔로몬은 제사장들에게 업무를 맡기는 일에 있어서도 그의 아버지 다윗이 만들어 놓은 규정을 따랐으며 레위인들에게는 매일 찬송하고 제사장들을 돕는 일과 그리고 순번에 따라 성전 문을 지키는 일을 맡겼다.
15이와 같이 솔로몬은 제사장과 레위인들에게 업무를 맡기는 일이나 국고에 관한 일이나 무슨 일에든지 다윗이 지시한 것에서 조금도 벗어나지 않았다.
16이렇게 해서 솔로몬은 성전 건축을 성공적으로 완성하였다.
17그러고서 그는 에돔 땅의 아카바만 연안에 있는 에시온 – 게벨과 엘랏으로 갔다.
18그러자 히람왕은 자기 신하들의 지휘하에 배와 노련한 선원들을 그에게 보냈고 그들은 솔로몬의 종들과 함께 오빌에 가서 8:18 히 ‘금 450달란트’약 15톤이나 되는 금을 실어 와 솔로몬에게 주었다.
