To the Elders and the Flock
1To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: 2Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; 3not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
5In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”5:5 Prov. 3:34
6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Final Greetings
12With the help of Silas,5:12 Greek Silvanus, a variant of Silas whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.
13She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark. 14Greet one another with a kiss of love.

ผู้อาวุโสและผู้อ่อนอาวุโส
1ถึงผู้อาวุโส5:1 หรือผู้ปกครองทั้งหลายในหมู่พวกท่าน ข้าพเจ้าขอร้องท่านในฐานะที่เป็นเพื่อนผู้อาวุโส เป็นพยานคนหนึ่งในเรื่องการทนทุกข์ของพระคริสต์ และเป็นผู้หนึ่งที่จะร่วมในพระเกียรติสิริซึ่งจะทรงสำแดงนั้นว่า 2จงเลี้ยงดูฝูงแกะของพระเจ้าซึ่งอยู่ในความดูแลรับผิดชอบของท่าน พวกท่านรับใช้ในฐานะผู้ปกครองดูแล ไม่ใช่เพราะท่านต้องทำแต่เพราะท่านเต็มใจทำตามที่พระเจ้าทรงประสงค์ให้ท่านเป็น ไม่ใช่โลภเงินทองแต่กระตือรือร้นที่จะรับใช้ 3ไม่ใช่วางอำนาจเหนือบรรดาผู้ที่ทรงมอบหมายแก่ท่าน แต่เป็นแบบอย่างแก่ฝูงแกะนั้น 4และเมื่อหัวหน้าของผู้เลี้ยงทั้งปวงทรงปรากฏท่านทั้งหลายจะได้รับมงกุฎแห่งศักดิ์ศรีซึ่งไม่มีวันเสื่อมสลาย
5ในทำนองเดียวกันท่านผู้อ่อนอาวุโส จงยอมเชื่อฟังบรรดาผู้ที่อาวุโสกว่า อันที่จริงให้ท่านทุกคนถ่อมใจต่อกันและกัน เพราะว่า
“พระเจ้าทรงต่อสู้ผู้ที่หยิ่งจองหอง
แต่ประทานพระคุณแก่คนที่ถ่อมใจ”5:5 สภษ. 3:34
6เพราะฉะนั้นพวกท่านจงถ่อมใจลงภายใต้พระหัตถ์อันทรงฤทธิ์ของพระเจ้าเพื่อพระองค์จะทรงยกท่านขึ้นเมื่อถึงเวลาอันควร 7จงละความกังวลทั้งสิ้นของท่านไว้กับพระองค์เพราะพระองค์ทรงห่วงใยท่าน
8จงรู้จักบังคับตนเองและตื่นตัวอยู่เสมอ เพราะมารผู้เป็นศัตรูของท่านวนเวียนอยู่รอบๆ ดุจสิงห์คำราม เที่ยวหาเหยื่อเพื่อขย้ำกิน 9จงต่อต้านมาร ยืนหยัดมั่นคงในความเชื่อ ด้วยรู้ว่าพี่น้องทั่วโลกกำลังเผชิญความทุกข์ยากแบบเดียวกัน
10และหลังจากพวกท่านทนทุกข์อยู่ชั่วขณะหนึ่ง พระเจ้าแห่งพระคุณทั้งปวงผู้ทรงเรียกท่านมาสู่พระเกียรติสิรินิรันดร์ของพระองค์ในพระคริสต์ พระองค์เองจะทรงให้พวกท่านกลับคืนสู่สภาพดีและให้ท่านเข้มแข็ง มั่นคง และแน่วแน่ 11ขอเดชานุภาพมีแด่พระองค์สืบๆ ไปเป็นนิตย์ อาเมน
คำลงท้าย
12ข้าพเจ้าเขียนมาถึงท่านสั้นๆ ด้วยความช่วยเหลือของสิลาส5:12 หรือสิลวานัส ผู้ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าถือว่าเป็นพี่น้องที่สัตย์ซื่อ ข้าพเจ้าเขียนมาให้กำลังใจท่านและเป็นพยานว่าทั้งหมดนี้คือพระคุณที่แท้จริงของพระเจ้า จงยืนหยัดมั่นคงในพระคุณนี้
13คริสตจักรที่เมืองบาบิโลนผู้ได้รับการเลือกสรรด้วยกันกับท่านฝากความคิดถึงมายังท่าน และมาระโกบุตรของข้าพเจ้าก็ฝากความคิดถึงมายังท่านด้วย 14จงทักทายกันด้วยจุมพิตแห่งความรัก
ขอสันติสุขมีแด่พวกท่านทุกคนผู้อยู่ในพระคริสต์
