Concerning Spiritual Gifts
1Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
4There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,12:10 Or languages; also in verse 28 and to still another the interpretation of tongues.12:10 Or languages; also in verse 28 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
Unity and Diversity in the Body
12Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13For we were all baptized by12:13 Or with; or in one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 17If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. 29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues12:30 Or other languages? Do all interpret? 31Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.

And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
Doni speciali dello Spirito
1Ed ora, fratelli, parliamo delle particolari capacità, che lo Spirito Santo dà ad ognuno di voi, perché non voglio che ci siano malintesi. 2Certamente vi ricordate che, prima di diventare cristiani, vi lasciavate trascinare da un idolo allʼaltro, ed erano tutti idoli muti. 3Ora, invece, incontrate gente che dice di predicare grazie allo Spirito di Dio. Come potete sapere se sono davvero ispirati da Dio, o se è tutta una montatura? Ecco la prova: nessuno che parla per la potenza dello Spirito di Dio può dire: «Maledizione a Gesù!» Come pure, nessuno può dire: «Gesù è il Signore!» se non per mezzo dello Spirito Santo.
4Ci sono diversi tipi di dono, ma lo stesso Spirito. 5Ci sono diversi tipi di servizio, ma lo stesso Signore. 6Ci sono diversi tipi di attività, ma lo stesso Dio che opera tutto in tutti. 7In ciascuno di noi lo Spirito Santo si manifesta, dando la capacità più appropriata, ma sempre per il bene di tutti.
8Infatti, ad uno lo Spirito dà il linguaggio della Sapienza; ad un altro il linguaggio della conoscenza ma, è sempre un dono del medesimo Spirito Santo. 9Un altro ancora può ricevere una fede speciale, e un altro il potere di guarire le malattie. 10È sempre il medesimo Spirito Santo che dà ad alcune persone il potere di fare miracoli, ad altre lʼabilità di profetizzare e ad altre ancora quella di distinguere fra spiriti. È sempre il medesimo Spirito Santo che dà ad alcuni il dono di parlare in altre lingue e ad altri, che non conoscono queste lingue, la capacità di interpretare che cosa dicono. 11È sempre questʼunico e medesimo Spirito Santo che distribuisce ad ognuno i suoi doni, come meglio crede.
12Il nostro corpo è composto di molte parti, e tutte queste parti, anche se sono molte, formano un unico corpo; così è per il corpo di Cristo. 13E ognuno di noi fa parte dellʼunico corpo di Cristo. Tutti noi credenti, sia quelli di origine ebraica che quelli di origine pagana, sia schiavi che liberi, abbiamo ricevuto il battesimo di un unico corpo, e tutti abbiamo bevuto alla fonte di un unico Spirito.
14Proprio così, il corpo non è composto di una sola parte, ma di molte. 15Se il piede dicesse: «Io non faccio parte del corpo, perché non sono una mano», non per questo cesserebbe di fare parte del corpo. 16Così pure, se lʼorecchio dicesse: «Non faccio parte del corpo, perché sono soltanto un orecchio e non un occhio», non cesserebbe per questo di essere parte del corpo. 17Supponiamo che tutto il corpo sia un occhio, in tal caso, come si potrebbe udire? Oppure, se tutto il corpo fosse soltanto un grande orecchio, come si potrebbe odorare?
18Ma non è in questo modo che Dio ci ha fatto. Egli ha creato molte parti del nostro corpo, collocando ciascuna parte come meglio ha creduto. 19Che cosa strana sarebbe un corpo fatto di una sola parte! 20Ma il Signore ha creato molte parti, mentre il corpo resta uno solo.
21Quindi lʼocchio non può dire alla mano: «Non ho bisogno di te», né la testa può dire ai piedi: «Non so che farmene di voi».
22Anzi, proprio le parti del corpo che sembrano più deboli e meno importanti sono le più necessarie. 23E trattiamo con maggior premura, coprendole con gli indumenti, le parti che consideriamo meno nobili e decenti. 24Le altre parti, invece, quelle considerate più nobili, non hanno bisogno di essere coperte. Dio ha composto il corpo, dando maggiore onore a quelle parti che ne avevano di meno, 25in modo che non ci fossero divisioni nel corpo, ma che tutte le parti, collaborando insieme, avessero lo stesso scopo.
26E se una parte del corpo soffre, tutte le altre soffrono con essa; se una parte, invece, è onorata, tutte le altre ne sono felici.
27Ecco che cosa cerco di dirvi: tutti voi fate parte del corpo di Cristo e, individualmente, ognuno di voi è parte di questo corpo. 28Ecco alcune parti che Dio ha costituito nella sua Chiesa, che è il suo corpo:
prima di tutto gli apostoli,
poi i profeti, cioè quelli che annunciano la parola di Dio,
i maestri,
quelli che compiono miracoli,
quelli che hanno il dono di guarire le malattie,
quelli che assistono i malati,
quelli che hanno capacità organizzative
e quelli che parlano in lingue sconosciute.
29Sono, forse, tutti apostoli, oppure tutti predicatori? Naturalmente no. Sono tutti maestri o, forse, hanno tutti il potere di fare miracoli? Certo che no. 30Possono tutti guarire le malattie, oppure Dio dà a tutti la capacità di parlare in altre lingue? E ancora, possono tutti interpretare ciò che dicono quelli che parlano in lingue sconosciute?
31Certamente no, ma cercate di fare del vostro meglio per ottenere i doni più importanti.
