The Letter to the Church in Ephesus
1“Here is what I command you to write to the church in Ephesus.
Here are the words of Jesus, who holds the seven stars in his right hand. He also walks among the seven golden lampstands. He says,
2‘I know what you are doing. You work long and hard. I know you can’t put up with evil people. You have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not. You have found out that they are liars. 3You have been faithful and have put up with a lot of trouble because of me. You have not given up.
4‘But here is something I hold against you. You have turned away from the love you had at first. 5Think about how far you have fallen! Turn away from your sins. Do the things you did at first. If you don’t, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. 6But you do have this in your favor. You hate the way the Nicolaitans act. I hate it too.
7‘Whoever has ears should listen to what the Holy Spirit says to the churches. Here is what I will do for anyone who has victory over sin. I will let that person eat from the tree of life in God’s paradise.’
The Letter to the Church in Smyrna
8“Here is what I command you to write to the church in Smyrna.
Here are the words of Jesus, who is the First and the Last. He is the one who died and came to life again. He says,
9‘I know that you suffer and are poor. But you are rich! Some people say they are Jews but are not. I know that their words are evil. Their worship comes from Satan. 10Don’t be afraid of what you are going to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you. You will be treated badly for ten days. Be faithful, even if it means you must die. Then I will give you life as your crown of victory.
11‘Whoever has ears should listen to what the Holy Spirit says to the churches. Here is what I will do for anyone who has victory over sin. I will not let that person be hurt at all by the second death.’
The Letter to the Church in Pergamum
12“Here is what I command you to write to the church in Pergamum.
Here are the words of Jesus, who has the sharp sword with two edges. He says,
13‘I know that you live where Satan has his throne. But you remain faithful to me. You did not give up your faith in me. You didn’t give it up even in the days of Antipas. Antipas, my faithful witness, was put to death in your city, where Satan lives.
14‘But I have a few things against you. Some of your people follow the teaching of Balaam. He taught Balak to lead the people of Israel into sin. So they ate food that had been offered to statues of gods. And they committed sexual sins. 15You also have people who follow the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16So turn away from your sins! If you don’t, I will come to you soon. I will fight against those people with the sword that comes out of my mouth.
17‘Whoever has ears should listen to what the Holy Spirit says to the churches. Here is what I will do for anyone who has victory over sin. I will give that person hidden manna to eat. I will also give each of them a white stone with a new name written on it. Only the one who receives this name will know what it is.’
The Letter to the Church in Thyatira
18“Here is what I command you to write to the church in Thyatira.
Here are the words of the Son of God. He is Jesus, whose eyes are like blazing fire. His feet are like polished bronze. He says,
19‘I know what you are doing. I know your love and your faith. I know how well you have served. I know you don’t give up easily. In fact, you are doing more now than you did at first.
20‘But here is what I have against you. You put up with that woman Jezebel. She calls herself a prophet. With her teaching, she has led my servants into sexual sin. She has tricked them into eating food offered to statues of gods. 21I’ve given her time to turn away from her sinful ways. But she doesn’t want to. 22She lay down to commit her sin so I will make her lie down in suffering. Those who commit adultery with her will suffer greatly too. Their only way out is to turn away from what she taught them to do. 23I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I search hearts and minds. I will pay each of you back for what you have done.
24‘I won’t ask the rest of you in Thyatira to do anything else. You don’t follow the teaching of Jezebel. You haven’t learned what some people call Satan’s deep secrets. 25Just hold on to what you have until I come.
26‘Here is what I will do for anyone who has victory over sin. I will do it for anyone who carries out my plans to the end. I will give that person authority over the nations. 27It is written, “They will rule them with an iron scepter. They will break them to pieces like clay pots.” (Psalm 2:9) Their authority is like the authority I’ve received from my Father. 28I will also give the morning star to all who have victory. 29Whoever has ears should listen to what the Holy Spirit says to the churches.’

1エペソにある教会の指導者あてに、次のように書き送りなさい。『七つの教会を巡り、右手で七つの教会の指導者を支えておられる方が、こう言われます。 2「わたしは、あなたの多くの良い行いと、わたしのための労苦と忍耐とを、これまで見てきました。また、教会内の罪に目をつぶらず、使徒と自称しながら実はそうでない者のうそを注意深く調べて、見破った事実を知っています。 3あなたはわたしのために、どんな時もじっと耐え、決してくじけませんでした。 4しかし、一つだけ非難すべき点があります。それは、あなたがわたしを、初めのころのように愛していないことです。 5どうしてそうなったのか胸に手を当てて考え、初めの愛に立ち返って、以前のように励みなさい。さもないと、わたしは行って、あなたの燭台（教会）を諸教会の中から取り除きます。 6しかし、ほめられるところもあります。あなたが、わたしと同じように、ニコライ派（異端の一派）の人々のみだらな行いを憎んでいることです。 7聞く耳のある人は、聖霊が諸教会に言われることを、よく聞きなさい。わたしは勝利を得る者に、神のパラダイスにある、いのちの木の実を食べさせます。」』
8スミルナにある教会の指導者に、次のように書き送りなさい。『この手紙は、初めであり、終わりであり、死んでのち復活された方からのものです。 9「わたしは、主のためにあなたが、どんなにひどい苦しみと貧しさに耐えてきたかを知っています。〔しかし、実際は天に宝を得ているのです。〕さらに、自分こそユダヤ人（神に選ばれた者）だと主張する人々から、白い眼で見られ、非難されてきたことも知っています。しかし、あの人たちは悪魔の仲間であって、真のユダヤ人ではありません。 10これから先、出会うことになる苦しみを、恐れてはなりません。悪魔は、信仰を試そうとして、まもなく、あなたがたのうちの何人かを牢獄に投げ込むでしょう。そして、あなたがたは十日間、苦しむことになります。しかし、たとえ死に直面するようなことになっても、最後までわたしに忠実でありなさい。そうすれば、いのちの冠（終わりのない栄光の未来）をあげましょう。 11聞く耳のある人は、聖霊が諸教会に言われることを、よく聞きなさい。勝利を得る者は、決して第二の死（最終的な滅び）によって危害を受けません。」』
12ペルガモにある教会の指導者に、次のように書き送りなさい。『この手紙は、鋭い両刃の剣をふるう方からのものです。 13「わたしは、あなたを取り巻く環境をよく知っています。そこには憎むべき悪魔の王座があり、悪魔礼拝が盛んです。それでも、あなたはいつも、わたしに従順でした。わたしの忠実な証人アンテパスが、悪魔の弟子の手にかかって殉教した時も、あなたはわたしを捨てませんでした。 14しかしなお、二、三の非難すべき点があります。教会の中で、バラム（民数22―24章）の信奉者を見過ごしにしているではありませんか。バラムは昔バラクに入れ知恵し、イスラエルの民を性的な罪に巻き込み、偶像礼拝に走らせて、滅びに追いやろうとたくらみました。 15あなたの教会にも、そのバラムに従う者が巣くっています。 16だから、心と態度を改めなさい。さもないと、わたしはすぐにでも行って、口の剣で彼らと戦います。 17聞く耳のある人は、聖霊が諸教会に言われることを、よく聞きなさい。勝利を得る人は天からの食べ物が与えられ、また、めいめいに白い石が与えられます。その石には、本人以外はだれも知らない、新しい名前が刻まれています。」』
18テアテラにある教会の指導者に、次のように書き送りなさい。『この手紙は、燃える炎のような目と、真鍮のように輝く足を持つ、神の子からのものです。 19「わたしは、あなたが貧しい人々に親切にし、物資を援助し、めんどうを見てあげたことを知っています。また、あなたの愛と信仰と忍耐とを知っています。そして、これらの点で、着実に成長していることも認めています。 20しかしなお、非難すべき点があります。あのイゼベルという女を放任しているではありませんか。自ら女預言者と称しているあの女は、不品行など大した罪ではないと、クリスチャンをそそのかしています。しかも、そう口にするだけでなく、実際に不品行を行わせ、偶像への供え物の肉を食べさせようとしているのです。 21わたしは悔い改める機会を与えましたが、あの女は拒みました。 22さあ、今、わたしのことばに耳を傾けなさい。わたしはあの女を、激痛を伴う病気にし、彼女の不道徳にならう者も、罪を悔い改めてわたしのもとへ戻らなければ、同じ目に会わせます。 23また、あの女の子どもたちも打ち殺します。こうしてすべての教会は、わたしが人の心と思いを見通すことを知るのです。わたしは一人一人に、それぞれの行いに応じて報います。 24テアテラの教会の中で、この誤った教え〔この教えの支持者たちは、これを「深い真理」と呼んでいますが、実際には悪魔の落とし穴です〕に毒されていない人々については、これ以上、何も問いただすつもりはありません。 25ただ、わたしが行くまで、いま手にしているものをしっかり握りしめていなさい。 26勝利を得る者、すなわち、最後までわたしの働きを全うする者に、諸国民を支配する権威を与えます。 27父なる神からそれを与えられたわたしにならって、あなたは、鉄の杖で人々を治めるのです。彼らは、砕けた陶器のように粉みじんになるでしょう。 28また、あなたに明けの明星を与えます。 29聞く耳のある人は、聖霊が諸教会に言われることに耳を傾けなさい。」』
