Sin, Faith and Duty
1Jesus spoke to his disciples. “Things that make people sin are sure to come,” he said. “But how terrible it will be for anyone who causes those things to come! 2Suppose people lead one of these little ones to sin. It would be better for those people to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck. 3So watch what you do.
“If your brother or sister sins against you, tell them they are wrong. Then if they turn away from their sins, forgive them. 4Suppose they sin against you seven times in one day. And suppose they come back to you each time and say, ‘I’m sorry.’ You must forgive them.”
5The apostles said to the Lord, “Give us more faith!”
6He replied, “Suppose you have faith as small as a mustard seed. Then you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up. Be planted in the sea.’ And it will obey you.
7“Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. And suppose the servant came in from the field. Will you say to him, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? 8No. Instead, you will say, ‘Prepare my supper. Get yourself ready. Wait on me while I eat and drink. Then after that you can eat and drink.’ 9Will you thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10It’s the same with you. Suppose you have done everything you were told to do. Then you should say, ‘We are not worthy to serve you. We have only done our duty.’ ”
Jesus Heals Ten Men Who Have a Skin Disease
11Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. He traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12As he was going into a village, ten men met him. They had a skin disease. They were standing close by. 13And they called out in a loud voice, “Jesus! Master! Have pity on us!”
14Jesus saw them and said, “Go. Show yourselves to the priests.” While they were on the way, they were healed.
15When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back. He praised God in a loud voice. 16He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan.
17Jesus asked, “Weren’t all ten healed? Where are the other nine? 18Didn’t anyone else return and give praise to God except this outsider?” 19Then Jesus said to him, “Get up and go. Your faith has healed you.”
The Coming of God’s Kingdom
20Once the Pharisees asked Jesus when God’s kingdom would come. He replied, “The coming of God’s kingdom is not something you can see. 21People will not say, ‘Here it is.’ Or, ‘There it is.’ That’s because God’s kingdom is among you.”
22Then Jesus spoke to his disciples. “The time is coming,” he said, “when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man. But you won’t see it. 23People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ Or, ‘Here he is!’ Don’t go running off after them. 24When the Son of Man comes, he will be like the lightning. It flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. 25But first the Son of Man must suffer many things. He will not be accepted by the people of today.
26“Remember how it was in the days of Noah. It will be the same when the Son of Man comes. 27People were eating and drinking. They were getting married. They were giving their daughters to be married. They did all those things right up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.
28“It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking. They were buying and selling. They were planting and building. 29But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven. And all the people were destroyed.
30“It will be just like that on the day the Son of Man is shown to the world. 31Suppose someone is on the housetop on that day. And suppose what they own is inside the house. They should not go down to get what they own. No one in the field should go back for anything either. 32Remember Lot’s wife! 33Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it. Whoever loses their life will keep it. 34I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed. One person will be taken and the other left. 35-36Two women will be grinding grain together. One will be taken and the other left.”
37“Where, Lord?” his disciples asked.
He replied, “The vultures will gather where there is a dead body.”
برخی ديگر از سخنان عيسی
1روزی عيسی به شاگردان خود فرمود: «وسوسهٔ گناه هميشه وجود خواهد داشت، اما وای به حال آن كس كه ديگران را به سوی اين وسوسه‌ها بكشاند. 2برای چنين شخصی بهتر است كه سنگ بزرگ آسيابی به گردنش ببندند و او را به قعر دريا بيندازند، تا اينكه باعث گمراه شدن يكی از پيروان بی‌تجربه و ساده‌دل خدا گردد؛ زيرا مجازات خدا در حق او بسيار سنگين خواهد بود. 3پس مراقب اعمال و كردار خود باشيد!
«اگر برادرت در حق تو خطايی ورزد، او را از اشتباهش آگاه ساز. اگر پشيمان شد، او را ببخش. 4حتی اگر روزی هفت مرتبه به تو بدی كند، و هر بار نزد تو بازگردد و اظهار پشيمانی كند، او را ببخش!»
5روزی رسولان به عيسای خداوند گفتند: «ايمان ما را زياد كن.»
6عيسی فرمود: «اگر ايمانتان به اندازه دانه ريز خردل می‌بود، می‌توانستيد به اين درخت توت دستور بدهيد كه از جايش كنده شده، در دريا كاشته شود، و درخت هم از دستور شما اطاعت می‌كرد.
7-9«وقتی خدمتكاری از شخم زدن يا گوسفندچرانی به خانه باز می‌گردد، فوری نمی‌نشيند تا غذا بخورد؛ بلكه ابتدا خوراک اربابش را حاضر می‌كند و شام او را می‌دهد، سپس خودش می‌خورد. كسی نيز از او تشكر نمی‌كند، زيرا وظيفه‌اش را انجام می‌دهد. 10به همين صورت، شما نيز وقتی دستورات مرا اجرا می‌كنيد، انتظار تعريف و تمجيد نداشته باشيد، چون فقط وظيفه خود را انجام داده‌ايد.»
سامری سپاسگزار
11-13عيسی بر سر راه خود به اورشليم، در مرز جليل و سامره، وارد روستايی می‌شد كه ناگاه دَه جذامی به مقابل او آمدند. ايشان از دور ايستاده، فرياد زدند: «ای عيسی، ای استاد، بر ما رحم فرما!»
14عيسی متوجهٔ آنان شد و فرمود: «نزد كاهنان برويد و خود را به ايشان نشان دهيد.» هنگامی كه می‌رفتند، آثار جذام از روی بدنشان محو شد.
15يكی از آنان وقتی ديد كه شفا يافته است، در حالی که با صدای بلند خدا را شكر می‌كرد، نزد عيسی بازگشت، 16و جلو او بر خاک افتاد و برای لطفی كه در حقش كرده بود، از وی تشكر نمود. اين شخص، يک سامری بود.
17عيسی فرمود: «مگر من ده نفر را شفا ندادم؟ پس آن نه نفر ديگر كجا هستند؟ 18آيا به‌جز اين غريب، كسی نبود كه بازگردد و از خدا تشكر كند؟»
19پس به آن مرد فرمود: «برخيز و برو! ايمانت تو را شفا داده است!»
گفتار عيسی درباره آخر زمان
20روزی بعضی از فريسيان از عيسی پرسيدند: «ملكوت خدا كی آغاز خواهد شد؟»
عيسی جواب داد: «ملكوت خدا با علائم قابل ديدن آغاز نخواهد شد. 21و نخواهند گفت كه در اين گوشه يا آن گوشه زمين آغاز شده است، زيرا ملكوت خدا در ميان شماست.»
22كمی بعد، در اين باره به شاگردان خود فرمود: «زمانی می‌رسد كه آرزو خواهيد كرد حتی برای يک روز هم كه شده، با شما باشم، اما اين آرزو برآورده نخواهد شد. 23به شما خبر خواهد رسيد كه من بازگشته‌ام و در فلان جا هستم. اما باور نكنيد و به دنبال من نگرديد. 24زيرا وقتی بازگردم، بدون شک شما از آن آگاه خواهيد شد. بازگشت من، در واقع همچون برق خواهد بود كه تمام آسمان را روشن می‌سازد. 25اما پيش از آن، لازم است كه زحمات بسياری متحمل گردم و توسط اين قوم محكوم شوم.
26«در زمان بازگشت من، مردم دنيا مانند زمان نوح نسبت به امور الهی بی‌توجه خواهند بود. 27در زمان نوح، مردم همه سرگرم خوردن و نوشيدن و ازدواج و خوشگذرانی بودند و همه چيز به صورت عادی جريان داشت، تا روزی كه نوح داخل كشتی شد و طوفان آمد و همه را از بين برد.
28«در آن زمان، دنيا مانند زمان لوط خواهد بود كه مردم غرق كارهای روزانه‌شان بودند؛ می‌خوردند و می‌نوشيدند؛ خريد و فروش می‌كردند؛ می‌كاشتند و می‌ساختند، 29تا صبح روزی كه لوط از شهر سدوم بيرون آمد و آتش و گوگرد از آسمان باريد و همه چيز را از بين برد. 30بلی، به هنگام بازگشت من، اوضاع دنيا به همين صورت خواهد بود!
31«در آن روز، كسانی كه بيرون خانه باشند برای بردن اموالشان به خانه باز نگردند؛ و آنانی كه در صحرا هستند، به شهر باز نگردند. 32به خاطر بياوريد بر سر زن لوط چه آمد! 33هر كه بكوشد جان خود را حفظ كند، آن را از دست خواهد داد؛ اما هر كه از جان خود بگذرد، آن را نجات خواهد داد. 34در آن شب، دو نفر كه در يک اتاق خوابيده باشند، يكی به آسمان برده خواهد شد و ديگری خواهد ماند. 35دو زن كه سرگرم كارهای خانه باشند، يكی به آسمان برده شده، ديگری برجای خواهد ماند. 36دو نفر نيز كه در مزرعه كار می‌كنند، يكی برده شده، و ديگری خواهد ماند.»
37شاگردان از عيسی پرسيدند: «خداوندا، به كجا برده خواهند شد؟»
عيسی فرمود: «جايی كه لاشه باشد، لاشخورها در آنجا جمع خواهند شد!»
