Seventy Years in Babylon
1A message from the Lord about all the people of Judah came to Jeremiah. It came in the fourth year that Jehoiakim was the king of Judah. It was the first year that Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon. Jehoiakim was the son of Josiah. 2Jeremiah, the Lord’s prophet, spoke to all the people of Judah and Jerusalem. He said, 3“For 23 years the Lord’s messages have been coming to me. They began to come in the 13th year that Josiah was king of Judah. He was the son of Amon. The Lord’s messages still come to me today. I’ve spoken to you people again and again. But you haven’t listened to me.
4“The Lord has sent all his servants the prophets to you. They’ve come to you again and again. But you haven’t listened. You haven’t paid any attention to them. 5They said, ‘Each of you must turn from your evil ways and practices. Then you can stay in the land forever. It’s the land the Lord gave you and your people of long ago. 6Don’t follow other gods. Don’t serve them or worship them. Don’t make the Lord angry with the gods your own hands have made. Then he won’t harm you.’
7“ ‘But you did not listen to me,’ announces the Lord. ‘You have made me very angry with the gods your hands have made. And you have brought harm on yourselves.’
8“The Lord who rules over all says, ‘You have not listened to my words. 9So I will send for all the nations in the north. And I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon,’ announces the Lord. ‘I will bring all of them against this land and against you who live here. They will march out against all the nations that are around this land. I will set apart Judah and the nations around it in a special way to be destroyed. People will be shocked because of them. And they will make fun of them. Those nations will be destroyed forever. 10I will put an end to the sounds of joy and gladness. I will put an end to the voices of brides and grooms. The sound of grinding millstones will not be heard anymore. And lamps will not be lit anymore. 11This whole country will become dry and empty. And these nations will serve the king of Babylon for 70 years.
12“ ‘But I will punish that king and his nation because they are guilty. I will do this when the 70 years are over,’ announces the Lord. ‘I will make that land a desert forever. 13I have spoken against that land. And I will make all these things happen to it. Everything will happen that is written in this book. And I will make everything Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations come true. 14The people of Babylon will become slaves of many other nations and great kings. I will pay them back for what they have done.’ ”
The Cup of God’s Great Anger
15The Lord is the God of Israel. He said to me, “Take this cup from my hand. It is filled with the wine of my great anger. Make all the nations to which I send you drink it. 16When they drink it, they will not even be able to walk straight. It will drive them out of their minds. I am going to send war against them.” 17So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand. I made all the nations to which he sent me drink from it.
18He sent me to Judah’s kings and officials. He told me to go to Jerusalem and the towns of Judah. He wanted me to tell them they would be destroyed. Then people would be shocked because of them. They would make fun of them. They would use their name in a curse. And that’s how things still are today.

Pharaoh, the king of Egypt
his attendants, his officials, all his people
20all the people from other lands who lived there
all the kings of Uz
the Philistine kings of Ashkelon, Gaza and Ekron
the Philistines still living in Ashdod
21Edom, Moab, Ammon
22all the kings of Tyre and Sidon
the kings of the islands and other lands along the Mediterranean Sea
23Dedan, Teman, Buz
all the other places far away in the east
24all the kings of Arabia
all the other kings of people who live in the desert
25all the kings of Zimri, Elam and Media
26all the kings in the north, near and far
So he sent me to all the kingdoms on the face of the earth, one after the other. They will all drink from the cup of the Lord’s anger. After they drink, the king of Babylon will drink from it too.
27The Lord says, “Tell them, ‘The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says, “Drink from this cup. Get drunk and throw up. Fall down and do not get up again. I am going to send war against you.” ’ 28But they might refuse to take the cup from your hand. They might not want to drink from it. Then tell them, ‘The Lord who rules over all says, “You must drink from it! 29I am beginning to bring trouble on the city where I have put my Name. You might think you will not be punished. But you will certainly be punished. I am sending war against everyone who lives on earth,” announces the Lord who rules over all.’
30“Jeremiah, prophesy against them. Tell them,
“ ‘The Lord will roar from heaven like a lion.
His voice will sound like thunder
from his holy temple there.
He will roar loudly against his land.
He will shout like those who stomp on grapes in winepresses.
He will shout against everyone who lives on earth.
31The noise of battle will be heard
from one end of the earth to the other.
That’s because the Lord will bring charges against the nations.
He will judge every human being.
He will kill sinful people with his sword,’ ”
announces the Lord.
32The Lord who rules over all says,
“Look! Horrible trouble is spreading
from one nation to another.
A mighty storm is rising.
It is coming from a place
that is very far away.”
33At that time those the Lord kills will be lying around everywhere. They will be found from one end of the earth to the other. No one will mourn for them. Their dead bodies will not be gathered up or buried. Instead, they will be like human waste lying there on the ground.
34Weep and cry, you shepherds.
Roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock.
Your time to be killed has come.
You will fall like the best of the rams.
35The shepherds won’t have any place to run to.
The leaders of the flock won’t be able to escape.
36Listen to the cries of the shepherds.
Hear the weeping of the leaders of the flock.
The Lord is destroying their grasslands.
37Their peaceful meadows will be completely destroyed
because of the Lord’s great anger.
38Like a lion he will leave his den.
The land of those leaders will become a desert.
That’s because the sword of the Lord brings great harm.
His anger will burn against them.

4Bí ó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé Olúwa ti rán gbogbo àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀, àwọn wòlíì sí i yín láti ìgbà dé ìgbà, ẹ̀yin kò fetísílẹ̀. 5Wọ́n sì wí pé, “Ẹ yípadà olúkúlùkù yín kúrò ní inú ibi rẹ̀ àti ní ọ̀nà ibi rẹ̀, ẹ̀yin yóò sì lè dúró ní ilẹ̀ tí Ọlọ́run fún un yín àti àwọn baba yín títí láéláé. 6Má ṣe tọ àwọn ọlọ́run mìíràn lẹ́yìn láti sìn wọ́n tàbí bọ wọ́n; ẹ má ṣe mú inú bí mi pẹ̀lú ohun tí ẹ ti fi ọwọ́ yín ṣe. Nígbà náà ni Èmi kò ní ṣe yín ní ibi.”
7“Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ̀yin kò fetí sí mi,” ni Olúwa wí; “bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ẹ sì ti mú inú bí mi pẹ̀lú ohun tí ẹ fi ọwọ́ yín ṣe, ẹ sì ti mú ibi wá sórí ara yín.”
8Nítorí náà, Ọlọ́run alágbára sọ èyí: “Nítorí wí pé ẹ̀yin kò fetí sí ọ̀rọ̀ mi, 9Èmi yóò pe gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn àríwá, àti ìránṣẹ́ mi Nebukadnessari ọba Babeli,” ni Olúwa wí. “Èmi yóò sì mú wọn dìde lòdì sí ilẹ̀ náà àti àwọn olùgbé rẹ̀ àti sí gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè àyíká rẹ̀. Èmi yóò pa wọ́n run pátápátá, Èmi yóò sọ wọ́n di nǹkan ẹ̀rù àti yẹ̀yẹ́ àti ìparun ayérayé. 1025.10: Jr 7.34; 16.9; If 18.23.Èmi yóò sì mú ìró ayọ̀ àti inú dídùn kúrò lọ́dọ̀ wọn; ohùn ìyàwó àti ọkọ ìyàwó, ìró ọlọ òkúta àti ìmọ́lẹ̀ fìtílà. 11Gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè yìí yóò sì di ahoro, orílẹ̀-èdè yìí yóò sì sìn ọba Babeli ní àádọ́rin ọdún.
12“Ṣùgbọ́n, nígbà tí àádọ́rin ọdún náà bá pé; Èmi yóò fi ìyà jẹ ọba Babeli àti orílẹ̀-èdè rẹ, ilẹ̀ àwọn ará Babeli nítorí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ wọn,” ni Olúwa wí; “bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Èmi yóò sọ ọ́ di ahoro títí láé. 13Èmi yóò sì mú gbogbo ohun tí mo ti sọ wọ̀nyí wá sórí ilẹ̀ náà, gbogbo ohun tí a ti sọ àní gbogbo èyí tí a ti kọ sínú ìwé yìí, èyí tí Jeremiah ti sọtẹ́lẹ̀ sí gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè. 14Àwọn fúnrawọn yóò sì sin orílẹ̀-èdè púpọ̀ àti àwọn ọba ńlá. Ago ìbínú Ọlọ́run
1525.15: Jr 51.7; If 14.8,10; 16.19; 17.4; 18.3.Èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run Israẹli wí fún mi: “Gba ago yìí ní ọwọ́ mí tí ó kún fún ọtí wáìnì ìbínú mi, kí o sì mú gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè ti mo rán ọ sí mu ún. 16Nígbà tí wọ́n bá mu ún, wọn yóò ta gbọ̀nọ́ngbọ̀nọ́n: bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kí wọ́n di aṣiwèrè nítorí idà tí yóò ránṣẹ́ sí àárín wọn.” 17Mo sì gba ago náà lọ́wọ́ Olúwa, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni mo sì mú gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè tí ó rán mi sí mu ún.
18Jerusalẹmu àti àwọn ìlú Juda, àwọn ọba wọn pẹ̀lú àwọn aláṣẹ wọn, láti sọ wọ́n di ohun ìparun, ohun ẹ̀rù, ẹ̀sìn àti ègún, gẹ́gẹ́ bí wọ́n ti rí lónìí yìí.
19Farao ọba Ejibiti, àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀, àwọn aláṣẹ rẹ̀ àti àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀. 20Àti gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn àjèjì tí ó wà níbẹ̀;
gbogbo àwọn ọba Usi,
gbogbo àwọn ọba Filistini, gbogbo àwọn ti Aṣkeloni, Gasa, Ekroni àti gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn tí ó kù sí Aṣdodu.
21Edomu, Moabu àti Ammoni;
22gbogbo àwọn ọba Tire àti Sidoni;
gbogbo àwọn ọba erékùṣù wọ̀n-ọn-nì tí ń bẹ ní ìkọjá Òkun.
23Dedani, Tema, Busi àti gbogbo àwọn tí ń gbé lọ́nà jíjìn réré.
24Gbogbo àwọn ọba Arabia àti àwọn ọba àwọn àjèjì ènìyàn tí ń gbé inú aginjù.
25Gbogbo àwọn ọba Simri, Elamu àti Media.
26Àti gbogbo àwọn ọba àríwá ní tòsí àti lọ́nà jíjìn, ẹnìkínní lẹ́yìn ẹnìkejì; gbogbo àwọn ìjọba lórí orílẹ̀ ayé.
Àti gbogbo wọn, ọba Ṣeṣaki náà yóò sì mu.
27“Nígbà náà, sọ fún wọn: Èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run Alágbára Israẹli wí: Mu, kí o sì mú àmuyó kí o sì bì, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kí o sì ṣubú láì dìde mọ́ nítorí idà tí n ó rán sí àárín yín. 28Ṣùgbọ́n bí wọ́n ba kọ̀ láti gba ago náà ní ọwọ́ rẹ kí wọ́n sì mu ún, sọ fún wọn pé, ‘Èyí ni ohun tí Ọlọ́run alágbára sọ: Ẹyin gbọdọ̀ mu ún! 29Wò ó, èmi ń mú ibi bọ̀ sí orí orílẹ̀-èdè tí ó ń jẹ́ orúkọ mi; ǹjẹ́ yóò ha a lè lọ láìjìyà? Ẹ̀yin ń pe idà sọ̀kalẹ̀ sórí gbogbo àwọn olùgbé ayé, ni Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun sọ.’
30“Nísinsin yìí, sọ àsọtẹ́lẹ̀ àwọn ọ̀rọ̀ wọ̀nyí nípa wọn:
“ ‘Kí o sì sọ pé, Olúwa yóò bú láti òkè wá,
yóò sì bú kíkankíkan sí ilẹ̀ náà.
Yóò parí gbogbo olùgbé ayé, bí àwọn tí ń tẹ ìfúntí
31Ìrọ́kẹ̀kẹ̀ yóò wà títí dé òpin ilẹ̀ ayé,
nítorí pé Olúwa yóò mú ìdààmú wá sí orí
àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè náà,
yóò mú ìdájọ́ wá sórí gbogbo ènìyàn,
yóò sì fi àwọn olùṣe búburú fún idà,’ ”
ni Olúwa wí.
32Èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun wí:
“Wò ó! Ibi ń tànkálẹ̀ láti orílẹ̀-èdè kan sí òmíràn;
Ìjì ńlá yóò sì ru sókè láti òpin ayé.”
33Nígbà náà, àwọn tí Olúwa ti pa yóò wà ní ibi gbogbo, láti ìpẹ̀kun kan sí òmíràn. A kì yóò ṣọ̀fọ̀ wọn, a kì yóò kó wọn jọ tàbí sin wọ́n; ṣùgbọ́n wọn yóò dàbí ààtàn lórí ilẹ̀.
34Ké, kí ẹ sì pohùnréré ẹkún
ẹ̀yin olùṣọ́-àgùntàn, ẹ yí nínú eruku,
ẹ̀yin olùdarí agbo ẹran,
nítorí pé ọjọ́ àti pa yín ti dé,
ẹ̀yin ó sì ṣubú bí ohun èlò iyebíye.
35Àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn kì yóò rí ibi sálọ
kì yóò sì ṣí àsálà fún olórí agbo ẹran.
36Gbọ́ igbe àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn,
àti ìpohùnréré ẹkún àwọn olórí
agbo ẹran; nítorí pé Olúwa ń pa pápá oko tútù wọn run.
37Ibùgbé àlàáfíà yóò di ahoro,
nítorí ìbínú ńlá Olúwa.
38Gẹ́gẹ́ bí kìnnìún yóò fi ibùba rẹ̀ sílẹ̀,
ilẹ̀ wọn yóò sì di ahoro, nítorí idà àwọn aninilára,
àti nítorí ìbínú ńlá Olúwa.
