God Speaks His Final Word Through His Son
1In the past, God spoke to our people through the prophets. He spoke at many times. He spoke in different ways. 2But in these last days, he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one whom God appointed to receive all things. God also made everything through him. 3The Son is the shining brightness of God’s glory. He is the exact likeness of God’s being. He uses his powerful word to hold all things together. He provided the way for people to be made pure from sin. Then he sat down at the right hand of the King, the Majesty in heaven. 4So he became higher than the angels. The name he received is more excellent than theirs.
The Son Is Greater Than the Angels
5God never said to any of the angels,
“You are my Son.
Today I have become your Father.” (Psalm 2:7)
Or,
“I will be his Father.
And he will be my Son.” (2 Samuel 7:14; 1 Chronicles 17:13)
6God’s first and only Son is over all things. When God brings him into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.” (Deuteronomy 32:43)
7Here is something else God says about the angels.
“God makes his angels to be like spirits.
He makes those who serve him to be like flashes of lightning.” (Psalm 104:4)
8But here is what he says about the Son.
“You are God. Your throne will last for ever and ever.
Your kingdom will be ruled by justice.
9You have loved what is right and hated what is evil.
So your God has placed you above your companions.
He has filled you with joy by pouring the sacred oil on your head.” (Psalm 45:6,7)
10He also says,
“Lord, in the beginning you made the earth secure. You placed it on its foundations.
The heavens are the work of your hands.
11They will pass away. But you remain.
They will all wear out like a piece of clothing.
12You will roll them up like a robe.
They will be changed as a person changes clothes.
But you remain the same.
Your years will never end.” (Psalm 102:25–27)
13God never said to an angel,
“Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
under your control.” (Psalm 110:1)
14All angels are spirits who serve. God sends them to serve those who will receive salvation.
O Filho é Superior aos Anjos
1Há muito tempo Deus falou muitas vezes e de várias maneiras aos nossos antepassados por meio dos profetas, 2mas nestes últimos dias falou-nos por meio do Filho, a quem constituiu herdeiro de todas as coisas e por meio de quem fez o universo. 3O Filho é o resplendor da glória de Deus e a expressão exata do seu ser, sustentando todas as coisas por sua palavra poderosa. Depois de ter realizado a purificação dos pecados, ele se assentou à direita da Majestade nas alturas, 4tornando-se tão superior aos anjos quanto o nome que herdou é superior ao deles.
5Pois a qual dos anjos Deus alguma vez disse:
“Tu és meu Filho;
eu hoje te gerei”1.5 Sl 2.7?
E outra vez:
“Eu serei seu Pai,
e ele será meu Filho”1.5 2Sm 7.14; 1Cr 17.13?
6E ainda, quando Deus introduz o Primogênito no mundo, diz:
“Todos os anjos de Deus o adorem”1.6 Dt 32.43 (segundo a Septuaginta e os manuscritos do mar Morto)..
7Quanto aos anjos, ele diz:
“Ele faz dos seus anjos ventos,
e dos seus servos, clarões reluzentes”1.7 Sl 104.4.
8Mas a respeito do Filho, diz:
“O teu trono, ó Deus, subsiste para todo o sempre;
cetro de equidade é o cetro do teu Reino.
9Amas a justiça e odeias a iniquidade;
por isso Deus, o teu Deus,
escolheu-te dentre os teus companheiros,
ungindo-te com óleo de alegria”1.8,9 Sl 45.6,7.
10E também diz:
“No princípio, Senhor, firmaste os fundamentos da terra,
e os céus são obras das tuas mãos.
11Eles perecerão, mas tu permanecerás;
envelhecerão como vestimentas.
12Tu os enrolarás como um manto,
como roupas eles serão trocados.
Mas tu permaneces o mesmo,
e os teus dias jamais terão fim”1.10-12 Sl 102.25-27.
13A qual dos anjos Deus alguma vez disse:
“Senta-te à minha direita,
até que eu faça dos teus inimigos
um estrado para os teus pés”1.13 Sl 110.1?
14Os anjos não são, todos eles, espíritos ministradores enviados para servir aqueles que hão de herdar a salvação?
