The Altar for Burning Incense
1“Make an altar for burning incense. Make it out of acacia wood. 2It must be one and a half feet square and three feet high. Make a horn stick out from each of its upper four corners. 3Cover the top, sides and horns with pure gold. Put a strip of gold around it. 4Make two gold rings for the altar below the strip. Put the rings across from each other. They will hold the poles that are used to carry it. 5Make the poles out of acacia wood. Cover them with gold. 6Put the altar in front of the curtain that hangs in front of the ark. The ark is where the tablets of the covenant law are kept. The ark will have a cover. It will be the place where sin is paid for. There I will meet with you.
7“Aaron must burn sweet-smelling incense on the altar. He must do it every morning when he takes care of the lamps. 8He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at sunset. Incense must be burned regularly in front of the Lord. Do it for all time to come. 9Do not burn any other incense on the altar. Do not use the altar for burnt offerings or grain offerings. And do not pour drink offerings on it. 10Once a year Aaron must put the blood of a sin offering on the horns of the altar. He must do this to make the altar pure. He must do this on the day Israel’s sin is paid for. Do this for all time to come. The altar is a very holy place to me.”
Money to Pay for the People’s Lives
11Then the Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 12“Make a list of the Israelites and count them. When you do, each one must pay the Lord for his life at the time he is counted. Then a plague will not come on them when you count them. 13Each one counted must pay a fifth of an ounce of silver. It must be weighed out in keeping with the standard weights that are used in the sacred tent. The payment is an offering to the Lord. 14Each one counted must be 20 years old or more. He must give an offering to the Lord. 15When you make the offering, rich people must not give more than a fifth of an ounce of silver. And poor people must not give less. The offering you give to the Lord will pay for your lives. 16Receive the money from the people of Israel. Use it for any purpose in the tent of meeting. It will remind the people that they are paying me for their lives.”
The Large Bowl for Washing
17Then the Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 18“Make a large bronze bowl for washing. Make a bronze stand to put it on. Place the bowl between the tent of meeting and the altar. Put water in it. 19Aaron and his sons must wash their hands and feet with water from it. 20When they enter the tent of meeting, they must wash with water so that they will not die. They will come to the altar to serve me. They will bring a food offering to the Lord. 21When they do, they must wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. For all time to come, that will be a law for Aaron and the priests in his family line.”
Anointing Oil
22Then the Lord said to Moses, 23“Get some fine spices. Get 12 pounds eight ounces of liquid myrrh. Get six pounds four ounces of sweet-smelling cinnamon and the same amount of sweet-smelling calamus. 24Also get 12 pounds eight ounces of cassia. All the spices must be weighed out in keeping with the standard weights that are used in the sacred tent. And get a gallon of olive oil. 25Have a person who makes perfume mix everything into a sacred anointing oil. It will smell sweet. 26Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting and the ark where the tablets of the covenant law are kept. 27Anoint the table for the holy bread and all its things. Anoint the lampstand and the things that are used with it. Anoint the altar for burning incense. 28Anoint the altar for burnt offerings and all its tools. And anoint the large bowl together with its stand. 29You must set them apart so that they will be very holy. Anything that touches them will be holy.
30“Anoint Aaron and his sons. Set them apart so that they can serve me as priests. 31Say to the people of Israel, ‘This will be my sacred anointing oil for all time to come. 32Do not pour it on anyone else’s body. Do not make any other oil in the same way. It is sacred. So you must think of it as sacred. 33Suppose a person makes perfume in the same way. And suppose that person puts it on someone who is not a priest. Then that person must be separated from their people.’ ”
Incense
34Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get some sweet-smelling spices. Get some gum resin, onycha and galbanum. Also get some pure frankincense. Make sure everything is in equal amounts. 35Have a person who makes perfume mix it all up into a sweet-smelling incense. It must have salt in it. It will be pure and sacred. 36Grind some of it into powder. Place it in front of the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting. There I will meet with you. The incense will be very holy to you. 37Do not make any incense for yourselves in the same way. Think of it as holy to the Lord. 38Whoever makes incense in the same way to enjoy its sweet smell must be separated from their people.”
El altar del incienso
30:1-5 – Éx 37:25-28
1»Haz un altar de madera de acacia para quemar incienso. 2Hazlo cuadrado, de un codo de largo por un codo de ancho y dos codos de alto.30:2 Es decir, aprox. 45 cm de largo y de ancho, y 90 cm de alto. Sus cuernos deben formar una pieza con el altar. 3Recubre de oro puro su parte superior, sus cuatro costados y los cuernos, y ponle una moldura de oro alrededor. 4Debajo de la moldura ponle dos anillos de oro en cada uno de sus costados, para pasar por ellos las varas usadas para transportarlo. 5Prepara las varas de madera de acacia y recúbrelas de oro. 6Pon el altar frente a la cortina que está ante el arca con las tablas del pacto, es decir, ante la tapa que está sobre el arca, que es donde me reuniré contigo.
7»Cada mañana, cuando Aarón prepare las lámparas, quemará incienso aromático sobre el altar 8y también al caer la tarde, cuando las encienda. Las generaciones futuras deberán quemar siempre incienso ante el Señor. 9No ofrezcas sobre ese altar ningún otro incienso, ni holocausto ni ofrenda de grano, ni derrames sobre él ofrenda líquida alguna. 10Cada año Aarón hará un sacrificio y pedirá perdón por el pecado a lo largo de todas las generaciones. Lo hará poniendo la sangre de la ofrenda del perdón sobre los cuernos del altar. Este altar estará completamente consagrado al Señor».
La ofrenda por el rescate de la vida
11El Señor habló con Moisés y le dijo: 12«Cuando hagas el censo y cuentes a los israelitas, cada uno deberá pagar al Señor rescate por su vida, para que no le sobrevenga ninguna plaga durante el censo. 13Cada uno de los censados deberá pagar como ofrenda al Señor medio siclo30:13 Es decir, aprox. 6 g; también en v. 15. de plata, que es la mitad del peso oficial del santuario.30:13 que … santuario. Lit. según el siclo del santuario, que es de veinte guerás, es decir, 11.5 g. 14Todos los censados mayores de veinte años deberán entregar esta ofrenda al Señor. 15Al entregar al Señor la ofrenda de rescate por la vida, ni el rico dará más de medio siclo, ni el pobre dará menos. 16Tú mismo recibirás esta plata de manos de los israelitas, y la entregarás para el servicio de la Tienda de reunión. De esta manera el Señor tendrá presente que los israelitas pagaron por el rescate de su vida».
El recipiente para el lavado
17El Señor habló con Moisés y le dijo: 18«Haz un recipiente de bronce para lavarse, con un pedestal también de bronce, y colócalo entre la Tienda de reunión y el altar. Échale agua, 19pues con ella deben lavarse Aarón y sus hijos las manos y los pies. 20Siempre que entren en la Tienda de reunión, o cuando se acerquen al altar y presenten al Señor alguna ofrenda puesta al fuego, deberán lavarse con agua 21las manos y los pies para que no mueran. Este será un estatuto perpetuo para Aarón y sus descendientes por todas las generaciones».
El aceite de la unción
22El Señor habló con Moisés y le dijo: 23«Toma las siguientes especias finas: quinientos siclos30:23 Es decir, aprox. 6 kg; también en el v. 24. de mirra líquida, doscientos cincuenta siclos30:23 Es decir, aprox. 3 kg. de canela aromática y otro tanto igual de caña aromática, 24quinientos siclos de casia, según el peso oficial30:24 el peso oficial. Lit. el siclo. del santuario, y un hin30:24 Es decir, aprox. 3.8 l. de aceite de oliva. 25Con estos ingredientes harás un aceite, es decir, una mezcla aromática como las de los fabricantes de perfumes. Este será el aceite de la unción sagrada. 26Con él deberás ungir la Tienda de reunión, el arca con las tablas del pacto, 27la mesa y todos sus utensilios, el candelabro y sus accesorios, el altar del incienso, 28el altar de los holocaustos y todos sus utensilios, y el recipiente para el lavado con su pedestal. 29De este modo, los consagrarás y serán objetos santísimos; cualquier cosa que toque esos objetos quedará también consagrada.
30»Unge a Aarón y a sus hijos, y conságralos para que me sirvan como sacerdotes. 31A los israelitas darás las siguientes instrucciones: “De aquí en adelante, este será mi aceite de la unción sagrada. 32No lo derramen sobre el cuerpo de cualquier hombre ni preparen otro aceite con la misma fórmula. Es un aceite sagrado y así deberán considerarlo. 33Cualquiera que haga un perfume como este, y cualquiera que unja con él a alguien que no sea sacerdote, será eliminado de su pueblo”».
El incienso
34El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Toma una misma cantidad de resina, ámbar, gálbano e incienso puro, 35y mezcla todo esto para hacer un incienso aromático, como lo hacen los fabricantes de perfumes. Agrégale sal a la mezcla, para que sea un incienso puro y sagrado. 36Muele parte de la mezcla hasta hacerla polvo y colócala en la Tienda de reunión, frente al arca con las tablas del pacto, donde yo me reuniré contigo. Este incienso será para ustedes algo muy sagrado, 37y no deberá hacerse ningún otro incienso con la misma fórmula, pues le pertenece al Señor. Ustedes deberán considerarlo como algo sagrado. 38Quien haga otro incienso parecido para disfrutar de su fragancia será eliminado de su pueblo».
