Final Warnings
1This will be my third visit to you. Scripture says, “Every matter must be proved by the words of two or three witnesses.” (Deuteronomy 19:15) 2I already warned you during my second visit. I now say it again while I’m away. When I return, I won’t spare those who sinned earlier. I won’t spare any of the others either. 3You are asking me to prove that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you. He is powerful among you. 4It is true that Christ was nailed to the cross because he was weak. But Christ lives by God’s power. In the same way, we share his weakness. But by God’s power we will live with Christ as we serve you.
5Take a good look at yourselves to see if you are really believers. Test yourselves. Don’t you realize that Christ Jesus is in you? Unless, of course, you fail the test! 6I hope you will discover that I haven’t failed the test. 7I pray to God that you won’t do anything wrong. I don’t pray so that people will see that I have passed the test. Instead, I pray this so that you will do what is right, even if it seems I have failed. 8I can’t do anything to stop the truth. I can only work for the truth. 9I’m glad when I am weak but you are strong. I pray that there will be no more problems among you. 10That’s why I write these things before I come to you. Then when I do come, I won’t have to be hard on you when I use my authority. The Lord gave me the authority to build you up. He didn’t give it to me to tear you down.

11Finally, brothers and sisters, be joyful! Work to make things right with one another. Help one another and agree with one another. Live in peace. And the God who gives love and peace will be with you.

1Aceasta este a treia oară când vin la voi. „Orice vorbă să fie întemeiată pe cuvântul a doi sau trei martori.“1 Vezi Deut. 19:15. 2Le‑am spus mai dinainte, când am fost de față a doua oară, și le spun mai dinainte și acum, când sunt departe, celor care au păcătuit mai înainte și tuturor celorlalți, că, dacă voi veni din nou, nu voi cruța pe nimeni, 3întrucât voi căutați o dovadă că Isus3 Isus nu apare în textul grecesc, dar a fost introdus din motive stilistice (pentru a se evita asociația neplăcută de sunete din sintagma că Cristos). Cristos vorbește prin mine. El nu este neputincios față de voi, ci este puternic între voi, 4pentru că a fost răstignit prin neputință, dar trăiește prin puterea lui Dumnezeu. Căci și noi suntem neputincioși în El, dar vom trăi împreună cu El, prin puterea lui Dumnezeu, pentru voi.
5Puneți‑vă la încercare pe voi înșivă, ca să vedeți dacă sunteți în credință! Testați‑vă pe voi înșivă! Sau nu recunoașteți cu privire la voi înșivă că Isus Cristos este în voi? – doar dacă nu cumva sunteți respinși la test5-7 Termenul adokimos înseamnă neaprobat, care nu trece la test, dovedit fals la probe.. 6Sper că veți recunoaște că noi nu suntem respinși la test. 7Și ne rugăm lui Dumnezeu să nu faceți nimic rău, nu pentru ca noi să fim arătați că am trecut testul, ci pentru ca voi să faceți ceea ce este bine, chiar dacă noi am fi respinși la test. 8Căci noi nu putem face nimic împotriva adevărului, ci numai pentru adevăr. 9Ne bucurăm când noi suntem neputincioși, iar voi sunteți puternici. Și ne rugăm pentru desăvârșirea voastră. 10De aceea vă scriu acestea, când sunt departe, pentru ca atunci când vin să nu mă port aspru, potrivit cu autoritatea pe care mi‑a dat‑o Domnul pentru zidire, nu pentru dărâmare.
Salutări finale
11În rest, fraților, bucurați‑vă! Îndreptați‑vă unul pe altul! Încurajați‑vă! Fiți în același gând unul cu altul! Trăiți în pace, iar Dumnezeul dragostei și al păcii va fi cu voi.
12Salutați‑vă unii pe alții cu o sărutare sfântă! Toți sfinții vă salută. 13Harul Domnului Isus Cristos, dragostea lui Dumnezeu și părtășia Duhului Sfânt să fie cu voi cu toți! Amin.
