The Church and Its Leaders
1Brothers and sisters, I couldn’t speak to you as people who live by the Holy Spirit. I had to speak to you as people who were still following the ways of the world. You aren’t growing as Christ wants you to. You are still like babies. 2The words I spoke to you were like milk, not like solid food. You weren’t ready for solid food yet. And you still aren’t ready for it. 3You are still following the ways of the world. Some of you are jealous. Some of you argue. So aren’t you following the ways of the world? Aren’t you acting like ordinary human beings? 4One of you says, “I follow Paul.” Another says, “I follow Apollos.” Aren’t you acting like ordinary human beings?
5After all, what is Apollos? And what is Paul? We are only people who serve. We helped you to believe. The Lord has given each of us our own work to do. 6I planted the seed. Apollos watered it. But God has been making it grow. 7So the one who plants is not important. The one who waters is not important. It is God who makes things grow. He is the important one. 8The one who plants and the one who waters have the same purpose. The Lord will give each of them a reward for their work. 9We work together to serve God. You are like God’s field. You are like his building.
10God has given me the grace to lay a foundation as a wise builder. Now someone else is building on it. But each one should build carefully. 11No one can lay any other foundation than what has already been laid. That foundation is Jesus Christ. 12A person may build on it using gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay or straw. 13But each person’s work will be shown for what it is. On judgment day it will be brought to light. It will be put through fire. The fire will test how good each person’s work is. 14If the building doesn’t burn up, God will give the builder a reward for the work. 15If the building burns up, the builder will lose everything. The builder will be saved, but only like one escaping through the flames.
16Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple? Don’t you know that God’s Spirit lives among you? 17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person. God’s temple is holy. And you all together are that temple.
18Don’t fool yourselves. Suppose some of you think you are wise by the standards of the world. Then you should become “fools” so that you can become wise. 19The wisdom of this world is foolish in God’s eyes. It is written, “God catches wise people in their own evil plans.” (Job 5:13) 20It is also written, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of wise people don’t amount to anything.” (Psalm 94:11) 21So no more bragging about human leaders! All things are yours. 22That means Paul or Apollos or Peter or the world or life or death or the present or the future. All are yours. 23You are joined to Christ and belong to him. And Christ is joined to God.
Einer ist so notwendig wie der andere
1Liebe Brüder und Schwestern! Ich konnte allerdings zu euch nicht wie zu Menschen reden, die sich vom Geist Gottes leiten lassen3,1 Wörtlich: wie zu Geistbegabten. und im Glauben erwachsen sind. Ihr wart noch wie kleine Kinder, die ihren eigenen Wünschen folgen.3,1 Wörtlich: (Ihr wart noch) Fleischliche. 2Darum habe ich euch nur Milch und keine feste Nahrung gegeben, denn die hättet ihr gar nicht vertragen. Selbst jetzt vertragt ihr diese Nahrung noch nicht; 3denn ihr lebt immer noch so, als würdet ihr Christus nicht kennen3,3 Wörtlich: denn ihr seid noch fleischlich.. Beweisen Eifersucht und Streit unter euch nicht, dass ihr immer noch von eurer selbstsüchtigen Natur bestimmt werdet und wie alle anderen Menschen denkt und lebt?
4Wenn die einen unter euch sagen: »Wir gehören zu Paulus!«, und andere: »Wir halten uns an Apollos!«, dann benehmt ihr euch, als hätte Christus euch nicht zu neuen Menschen gemacht. 5Wer ist denn schon Apollos oder Paulus, dass ihr euch deshalb streitet? Wir sind doch nur Diener Gottes, durch die ihr zum Glauben gefunden habt. Jeder von uns hat lediglich getan, was ihm von Gott aufgetragen wurde. 6Ich habe gepflanzt, Apollos hat begossen, aber Gott hat das Wachstum geschenkt. 7Es ist nicht so wichtig, wer pflanzt und wer begießt; wichtig ist allein Gott, der für das Wachstum sorgt. 8Von Gottes Mitarbeitern ist einer so notwendig wie der andere, ob er nun das Werk beginnt oder weiterführt. Jeder wird von Gott den Lohn für seine Arbeit bekommen, der ihm zusteht.
Jeder Mitarbeiter ist Gott verantwortlich
9Wir sind Gottes Mitarbeiter, ihr aber seid Gottes Ackerland und sein Bauwerk. 10Gott hat mir in seiner Gnade den Auftrag und die Fähigkeit gegeben, wie ein geschickter Bauleiter das Fundament zu legen. Doch andere bauen nun darauf weiter. Und jeder muss genau darauf achten, wie er diese Arbeit fortführt. 11Das Fundament, das bei euch gelegt wurde, ist Jesus Christus. Niemand kann ein anderes legen.
12Allerdings kann man mit den unterschiedlichsten Materialien weiterbauen. Manche verwenden Gold, Silber, kostbare Steine, andere nehmen Holz, Schilf oder Stroh. 13Doch an dem Tag, an dem Christus sein Urteil spricht, wird sich zeigen, womit jeder gebaut hat. Dann nämlich wird alles im Feuer auf seinen Wert geprüft, und es wird sichtbar, wessen Arbeit den Flammen standhält. 14Hat jemand fest und dauerhaft auf dem Fundament Christus weitergebaut, wird Gott ihn belohnen. 15Geht aber sein Werk in Flammen auf, wird er seinen Lohn verlieren. Er selbst wird zwar gerettet werden, aber nur mit knapper Not, so wie man jemanden aus dem Feuer reißt.
16Wisst ihr nicht, dass ihr Gottes Tempel seid und dass Gottes Geist in eurer Mitte wohnt? 17Wer diesen Tempel zerstört, den wird Gott ins Verderben stürzen. Denn Gottes Tempel ist heilig, und dieser Tempel seid ihr!
Warnung vor Überheblichkeit
18Macht euch doch nichts vor! Wenn sich jemand von euch einbildet, in dieser Welt besonders klug und weise zu sein, dann muss er den Mut aufbringen, als töricht zu gelten. Nur dann wird er wirklich weise. 19Denn was diese Welt für weise hält, ist in den Augen Gottes blanker Unsinn. So steht es schon in der Heiligen Schrift: »Er fängt die Klugen mit ihrer eigenen Klugheit.«3,19 Hiob 5,13 20Und außerdem heißt es: »Der Herr durchschaut die Gedanken der Weisen und weiß: Sie sind wertlos und führen zu nichts.«3,20 Psalm 94,11
21Merkt ihr, wie unsinnig es ist, einem bestimmten Menschen zu folgen und sich darauf auch noch etwas einzubilden?3,21 Wörtlich: Niemand soll mit Menschen prahlen. Euch gehört doch ohnehin alles: 22Paulus, Apollos und Petrus3,22 Wörtlich: Kephas. – Das ist der hebräische Name für Petrus., ja, die ganze Welt, das Leben wie der Tod, die Gegenwart wie die Zukunft – alles gehört euch! 23Ihr selbst aber gehört Christus, und Christus gehört Gott.
