1Después de esto vi a cuatro ángeles en los cuatro ángulos de la tierra. Estaban allí de pie, deteniendo los cuatro vientos para que estos no soplaran sobre la tierra, el mar y los árboles. 2Vi también a otro ángel que venía del oriente con el sello del Dios vivo. Gritó con voz potente a los cuatro ángeles a quienes se les había permitido hacer daño a la tierra y al mar: 3«¡No hagan daño ni a la tierra ni al mar ni a los árboles, hasta que hayamos puesto un sello en la frente de los siervos de nuestro Dios!». 4Y oí el número de los que fueron sellados: ciento cuarenta y cuatro mil de todas las tribus de Israel.
5De la tribu de Judá fueron sellados doce mil;
de la tribu de Rubén, doce mil;
de la tribu de Gad, doce mil;
6de la tribu de Aser, doce mil;
de la tribu de Neftalí, doce mil;
de la tribu de Manasés, doce mil;
7de la tribu de Simeón, doce mil;
de la tribu de Leví, doce mil;
de la tribu de Isacar, doce mil;
8de la tribu de Zabulón, doce mil;
de la tribu de José, doce mil;
de la tribu de Benjamín, doce mil.
La gran multitud con túnicas blancas
9Después de esto miré y apareció una multitud tomada de todas las naciones, tribus, pueblos y lenguas; era tan grande que nadie podía contarla. Estaban de pie delante del trono y del Cordero, vestidos de ropas blancas y con ramas de palma en la mano. 10Proclamaban a gran voz:
«¡La salvación viene de nuestro Dios
que está sentado en el trono
y del Cordero!».
11Todos los ángeles estaban de pie alrededor del trono, de los ancianos y de los cuatro seres vivientes. Se postraron rostro en tierra delante del trono y adoraron a Dios 12diciendo:
«¡Amén!
La alabanza, la gloria,
la sabiduría, la acción de gracias,
la honra, el poder y la fortaleza
son de nuestro Dios por los siglos de los siglos.
¡Amén!».
13Entonces uno de los ancianos me preguntó:
—Esos que están vestidos de blanco, ¿quiénes son y de dónde vienen?
14—Eso tú lo sabes, mi señor —respondí.
Él me dijo:
—Aquellos son los que están saliendo de la gran tribulación;
han lavado y blanqueado sus túnicas en la sangre del Cordero.
15Por eso están delante del trono de Dios,
y día y noche le sirven en su templo;
el que está sentado en el trono
les dará refugio con su presencia.7:15 les dará … presencia. Lit. extenderá su tienda sobre ellos.
16Ya no sufrirán hambre ni sed.
No los abatirá el sol ni ningún calor abrasador.
17Porque el Cordero que está en el trono los gobernará
y los guiará a fuentes de agua viva,
y Dios enjugará toda lágrima de sus ojos.
144,000 People Are Marked With the Seal of the Living God
1After this I saw four angels. They were standing at the four corners of the earth. They were holding back the four winds of the earth. This kept the winds from blowing on the land or the sea or on any tree. 2Then I saw another angel coming up from the east. He brought the official seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels. They had been allowed to harm the land and the sea. 3“Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees,” he said. “Wait until we mark with this seal the foreheads of those who serve our God.” 4Then I heard how many people were marked with the seal. There were 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.
5From the tribe of Judah, 12,000 were marked with the seal.
From the tribe of Reuben, 12,000.
From the tribe of Gad, 12,000.
6From the tribe of Asher, 12,000.
From the tribe of Naphtali, 12,000.
From the tribe of Manasseh, 12,000.
7From the tribe of Simeon, 12,000.
From the tribe of Levi, 12,000.
From the tribe of Issachar, 12,000.
8From the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000.
From the tribe of Joseph, 12,000.
From the tribe of Benjamin, 12,000.
The Huge Crowd Wearing White Robes
9After this I looked, and there in front of me was a huge crowd of people. They stood in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb. There were so many that no one could count them. They came from every nation, tribe and people. That’s true no matter what language they spoke. They were wearing white robes. In their hands they were holding palm branches. 10They cried out in a loud voice,
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne.
Salvation also belongs to the Lamb.”
11All the angels were standing around the throne. They were standing around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces in front of the throne and worshiped God. 12They said,
“Amen!
May praise and glory
and wisdom be given to our God for ever and ever.
Give him thanks and honor and power and strength.
Amen!”
13Then one of the elders spoke to me. “Who are these people dressed in white robes?” he asked. “Where did they come from?”
14I answered, “Sir, you know.”
He said, “They are the ones who have come out of the time of terrible suffering. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15So
“they are in front of the throne of God.
They serve him day and night in his temple.
The one who sits on the throne
will be with them to keep them safe.
16‘Never again will they be hungry.
Never again will they be thirsty.
The sun will not beat down on them.’ (Isaiah 49:10)
The heat of the desert will not harm them.
17The Lamb, who is at the center of the area around the throne,
will be their shepherd.
‘He will lead them to springs of living water.’ (Isaiah 49:10)
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’ ” (Isaiah 25:8)
