유다의 5대 왕 여호람
1여호사밧은 죽어 다윗성에 있는 그 조상들의 묘에 장사되었고 그의 아 들 여호람이 왕위를 계승하였다.
2여호람은 형제가 여섯이었는데 그들은 아사랴, 여히엘, 스가랴, 아사랴후, 미가엘, 스바댜였다.
3여호사밧왕은 자기 아들들에게 금은 보물과 유다의 요새 성들을 선물로 주었으나 여호람은 장남이기 때문에 그에게는 왕위를 물려 주었다.
4그러나 여호람이 왕위에 올라 세력을 굳히자 그는 자기 동생들을 모두 죽이고 또 몇몇 이스라엘 지도자들도 죽였다.
5여호람은 32세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 8년을 통치하였다.
6그는 아합의 딸과 결혼하였으므로 이스라엘 왕들을 본받아 아합의 집안 사람들처럼 악을 행하고 여호와께 범죄하였다.
7그러나 여호와께서 다윗의 집안을 멸망시키려고 하지 않았던 것은 다윗에게 21:7 또는 ‘항상 등불을 주시겠다고’그 후손들이 계속 나라를 다스리게 해 주겠다고 약속하셨기 때문이었다.
8여호람이 왕으로 있을 당시 에돔이 유다를 반역하여 자기들의 왕을 세웠다.
9그래서 여호람은 모든 전차를 동원하여 병력을 이끌고 에돔을 치러 갔으나 즉시 에돔군에게 포위를 당하고 말았다. 그래서 그들은 야음을 틈타서 간신히 그 포위망을 빠져나왔다.
10이때부터 에돔은 유다의 속박에서 벗어나 완전 독립국이 되었다. 그리고 이 때에 립나성도 반란을 일으켜 유다의 통치에서 벗어났는데 이런 일이 일어나게 된 것은 여호람이 그 조상의 하나님 여호와를 저버렸기 때문이었다.
11여호람은 또 유다의 여러 산에 산당을 세우고 유다와 예루살렘 사람들에게 우상을 섬기게 하여 여호와께 범죄하도록 하였다.
12이때 예언자 엘리야가 여호람에게 이런 편지를 보냈다. “왕의 조상 다윗의 하나님 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. ‘네가 네 아버지 여호사밧이나 유다의 아사왕을 본받지 않고
13이스라엘 왕들의 악한 행실을 본받아 아합의 집안 사람들처럼 유다와 예루살렘 백성에게 우상을 섬기게 하였으며 또 너보다 선한 너의 동생들을 모조리 죽였다.
14그러므로 나 여호와가 이제 네 백성과 네 처자들과 네가 소유한 모든 것에 무서운 재앙을 내리겠다.
15그리고 너는 창자에 고질병이 생겨 고생할 것이며 그 병은 악화되어 결국 네 창자가 빠져나오고 말 것이다.’ ”
16여호와께서는 블레셋 사람과 그리고 21:16 원문에는 ‘구스’에티오피아에 가까이 사는 아라비아 사람들의 마음을 충동하여 여호람을 치게 하셨다.
17그들은 유다를 침략하여 궁전을 약탈하고 막내 아들 아하시야를 제외한 왕의 아들들과 아내들을 모조리 생포해 갔다.
18그런 일이 있은 후에 여호와께서는 여호람을 벌하셔서 그의 창자에 고칠 수 없는 병이 들게 하셨다.
19그래서 여호람은 고생하다가 병든 지 2년 만에 창자가 빠져나와 결국 죽고 말았다. 그러나 백성들은 왕들이 죽을 때 늘 피우던 애도의 향불을 이번에는 피우지 않았다.
20여호람은 32세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 8년을 통치하다가 죽었는데 아무도 그의 죽음을 슬퍼하는 자가 없었다. 그는 다윗성에 묻히긴 했으나 왕들의 묘에는 장사되지 못하였다.
1Then Jehoshaphat rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Jehoram his son succeeded him as king. 2Jehoram’s brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael and Shephatiah. All these were sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.21:2 That is, Judah, as frequently in 2 Chronicles 3Their father had given them many gifts of silver and gold and articles of value, as well as fortified cities in Judah, but he had given the kingdom to Jehoram because he was his firstborn son.

4When Jehoram established himself firmly over his father’s kingdom, he put all his brothers to the sword along with some of the officials of Israel. 5Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. 6He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 7Nevertheless, because of the covenant the Lord had made with David, the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David. He had promised to maintain a lamp for him and his descendants forever.
8In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king. 9So Jehoram went there with his officers and all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night. 10To this day Edom has been in rebellion against Judah.
Libnah revolted at the same time, because Jehoram had forsaken the Lord, the God of his ancestors. 11He had also built high places on the hills of Judah and had caused the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves and had led Judah astray.
12Jehoram received a letter from Elijah the prophet, which said:
“This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: ‘You have not followed the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah. 13But you have followed the ways of the kings of Israel, and you have led Judah and the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves, just as the house of Ahab did. You have also murdered your own brothers, members of your own family, men who were better than you. 14So now the Lord is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives and everything that is yours, with a heavy blow. 15You yourself will be very ill with a lingering disease of the bowels, until the disease causes your bowels to come out.’ ”
16The Lord aroused against Jehoram the hostility of the Philistines and of the Arabs who lived near the Cushites. 17They attacked Judah, invaded it and carried off all the goods found in the king’s palace, together with his sons and wives. Not a son was left to him except Ahaziah,21:17 Hebrew Jehoahaz, a variant of Ahaziah the youngest.
18After all this, the Lord afflicted Jehoram with an incurable disease of the bowels. 19In the course of time, at the end of the second year, his bowels came out because of the disease, and he died in great pain. His people made no funeral fire in his honor, as they had for his predecessors.
20Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He passed away, to no one’s regret, and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
