1And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass. 2In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses; 3And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses.6.3 bay: or, strong 4Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord? 5And the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.6.5 spirits: or, winds 6The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country. 7And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. 9¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 10Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah; 11Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest; 12And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:6.12 grow…: or, branch up from under him 13Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both. 14And the crowns shall be to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of the LORD. 15And they that are far off shall come and build in the temple of the LORD, and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. And this shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.

Ils se sont tenus devant le Seigneur de toute la terre et maintenant ils sortent. 6Le char tiré par les chevaux noirs se dirige vers le pays du Nord ; celui qui est attelé des chevaux blancs les suit ; les chevaux mouchetés partent en direction du pays du Midi6.6 Nord: la Babylonie (cf. 2.10). les suit: autre traduction : partent vers l’ouest. 7Tous ces chevaux vigoureux s’avancèrent, impatients d’aller parcourir la terre.
Alors il leur dit : Allez, parcourez la terre !
Et ils s’élancèrent pour parcourir la terre.
8Puis il m’appela pour me dire : Regarde, ceux qui partent pour le pays du Nord vont assouvir ma colère contre le pays du Nord.
Le couronnement du Roi-Prêtre
9L’Eternel m’adressa la parole en ces termes : 10Va prendre une part des dons que Heldaï, Tobiya et Yedaeya apportent de la part des exilés : rends-toi aujourd’hui dans la maison de Josias, fils de Sophonie, où ces gens viennent d’arriver en provenance de Babylone6.10 Probablement une délégation de Juifs venus de Babylone pour apporter la contribution des exilés à la reconstruction du Temple.. 11Tu y prendras de l’argent et de l’or qu’ils apportent pour en faire une couronne6.11 En hébreu, ce mot, différent de celui qui désigne le turban du grand-prêtre, est au pluriel. Il s’agit peut-être d’une couronne avec plusieurs diadèmes., et tu la poseras sur la tête de Josué, fils de Yehotsadaq, le grand-prêtre.
12Tu lui diras alors : « Ecoute ce que déclare le Seigneur des armées célestes : Voici un homme dont le nom est Germe, et sous ses pas, tout germera6.12 Voir 3.8 et note.. Il bâtira le temple de l’Eternel. 13C’est lui qui bâtira le temple de l’Eternel. Il sera revêtu de majesté royale, et il siégera sur son trône pour gouverner. Il sera aussi prêtre sur son trône. Il y aura une pleine harmonie entre les deux fonctions6.13 Une telle union des deux fonctions était normalement interdite pour un roi issu de la tribu de Juda sous l’ancienne alliance (voir 2 Ch 26.16-21 ; Nb 17.5 ; 18.7), mais prévue pour le Messie (Ps 110.1-2, 4)..
14La couronne sera conservée dans le temple de l’Eternel en souvenir de Hélem, de Tobiya, de Yedaeya et de la bonté du fils de6.14 la bonté du fils de. Autre traduction : Hen, le fils de. Sophonie.
15Des gens viendront un jour de bien loin pour travailler à la construction du temple de l’Eternel, alors vous saurez que le Seigneur des armées célestes m’a envoyé vers vous. Cela s’accomplira si vous obéissez vraiment à l’Eternel votre Dieu. »
