1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 20For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
ตายต่อบาป แต่มีชีวิตในพระคริสต์
1เช่นนี้แล้วเราจะว่าอย่างไร? เราควรจะทำบาปต่อไปเพื่อพระคุณจะได้มีมากยิ่งขึ้นหรือ? 2อย่าให้เป็นเช่นนั้นเลย! เราได้ตายต่อบาปแล้ว เราจะดำเนินชีวิตในบาปต่อไปได้อย่างไร? 3ท่านไม่รู้หรือว่าเราทั้งปวงที่รับบัพติศมาเข้าในพระเยซูคริสต์ก็ได้รับบัพติศมาเข้าในความตายของพระองค์? 4ฉะนั้นเราจึงถูกฝังไว้กับพระองค์แล้วโดยการบัพติศมาเข้าในความตาย เพื่อว่าเราเองก็จะได้มีชีวิตใหม่เช่นเดียวกับที่ทรงให้พระคริสต์เป็นขึ้นจากตายโดยพระเกียรติสิริของพระบิดา
5ถ้าเราได้มีส่วนร่วมกับพระองค์ในการตายเหมือนพระองค์ แน่นอนเราจะมีส่วนร่วมในการเป็นขึ้นจากตายเหมือนพระองค์ 6เพราะเรารู้ว่าตัวเก่าของเราถูกตรึงไว้กับพระองค์แล้วเพื่อกายบาปนั้นจะถูกขจัดไป6:6 หรือจะถูกทำให้สิ้นฤทธิ์ เพื่อเราจะไม่เป็นทาสบาปอีกต่อไป 7เพราะว่าผู้ใดที่ตายแล้วก็เป็นอิสระจากบาป
8ถ้าเราตายกับพระคริสต์แล้ว เราเชื่อว่าเราจะมีชีวิตกับพระองค์ด้วย 9เพราะเรารู้ว่าในเมื่อทรงให้พระคริสต์เป็นขึ้นจากตายแล้ว พระองค์จะไม่มีวันตายอีก ความตายไม่มีอำนาจเหนือพระองค์อีกต่อไป 10ที่พระองค์ทรงตายนั้นทรงตายต่อบาปครั้งเดียวเป็นพอ แต่ที่พระองค์ทรงมีชีวิตอยู่นั้นทรงมีชีวิตอยู่เพื่อพระเจ้า
11ในทำนองเดียวกันจงถือว่าตัวท่านเองตายต่อบาปและมีชีวิตอยู่เพื่อพระเจ้าในพระเยซูคริสต์ 12เหตุฉะนั้นอย่าให้บาปครอบครองกายที่ต้องตายของท่าน ซึ่งทำให้ท่านต้องยอมทำตามความปรารถนาชั่วของกายนั้น 13อย่ายกส่วนต่างๆ ในกายของท่านให้แก่บาปเป็นเครื่องมือของความชั่วร้าย แต่จงถวายตัวของท่านเองแด่พระเจ้าในฐานะผู้ที่ทรงให้มีชีวิต เป็นขึ้นจากตาย และถวายส่วนต่างๆ ในกายของท่านแด่พระองค์ให้เป็นเครื่องมือของความชอบธรรม 14เพราะบาปจะไม่เป็นนายของท่านอีกต่อไป ด้วยว่าท่านไม่ได้อยู่ใต้บทบัญญัติแต่อยู่ใต้พระคุณ
ทาสของความชอบธรรม
15เช่นนี้แล้วจะเป็นอย่างไรต่อไป? เราจะทำบาปเพราะเราไม่ได้อยู่ใต้บทบัญญัติแต่อยู่ใต้พระคุณ
หรือ? อย่าให้เป็นเช่นนั้นเลย! 16ท่านไม่รู้หรือว่าเมื่อท่านยอมตัวเชื่อฟังเยี่ยงทาสต่อผู้ใด ท่านก็เป็นทาสของผู้ที่ท่านเชื่อฟังนั้น? ไม่ว่าท่านจะเป็นทาสของบาปซึ่งนำไปสู่ความตาย หรือเป็นทาสของการเชื่อฟังซึ่งนำไปสู่ความชอบธรรมก็ตาม 17แต่ขอบพระคุณพระเจ้าที่แม้ท่านเคยเป็นทาสของบาป ท่านก็เชื่อฟังคำสอนซึ่งทรงมอบหมายแก่ท่านนั้นอย่างสุดใจ 18ท่านได้รับการปลดปล่อยให้เป็นอิสระจากบาปและได้กลายเป็นทาสของความชอบธรรมแล้ว
19ข้าพเจ้าพูดเช่นนี้ตามประสามนุษย์ก็เพราะท่านอ่อนแอตามปกติวิสัยของท่าน เมื่อก่อนท่านเคยให้ส่วนต่างๆ ในกายของท่านเป็นทาสของความโสโครกและความชั่วร้ายที่เพิ่มขึ้นไม่สิ้นสุดอย่างไร บัดนี้ก็จงให้ส่วนต่างๆ นั้นเป็นทาสของความชอบธรรมซึ่งนำมาสู่ความบริสุทธิ์อย่างนั้น 20เมื่อท่านเป็นทาสของบาป ท่านก็ไม่ได้อยู่ภายใต้การควบคุมของความชอบธรรม 21ครั้งนั้นท่านได้เก็บเกี่ยวประโยชน์อะไรจากสิ่งเหล่านั้นซึ่งบัดนี้ท่านก็ละอายแก่ใจ? ผลลัพธ์ของสิ่งเหล่านั้นคือความตาย! 22แต่บัดนี้ท่านเป็นอิสระจากบาปและได้กลายมาเป็นทาสของพระเจ้าแล้ว ประโยชน์ที่ท่านได้เก็บเกี่ยวนำไปสู่ความบริสุทธิ์ และผลลัพธ์คือชีวิตนิรันดร์ 23เพราะว่าค่าตอบแทนที่ได้จากบาปคือความตาย แต่ของขวัญจากพระเจ้าคือชีวิตนิรันดร์ใน6:23 หรือผ่านทางพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา
