1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people. 3And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian. 4Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.31.4 Of…: Heb. A thousand of a tribe, a thousand of a tribe 5So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. 6And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.
7And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. 8And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword. 9And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods. 10And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire. 11And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts. 12And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.
13¶ And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp. 14And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.31.14 battle: Heb. host of war 15And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? 16Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD. 17Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.31.17 him: Heb. a male 18But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. 19And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day. 20And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood.31.20 that…: Heb. instrument, or, vessel of skins
21¶ And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses; 22Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead, 23Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water. 24And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.
25¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 26Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:31.26 that…: Heb. of the captivity 27And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation: 28And levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep: 29Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the LORD. 30And of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.31.30 flocks: or, goats 31And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses. 32And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep, 33And threescore and twelve thousand beeves, 34And threescore and one thousand asses, 35And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him. 36And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep: 37And the LORD’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen. 38And the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the LORD’s tribute was threescore and twelve. 39And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the LORD’s tribute was threescore and one. 40And the persons were sixteen thousand; of which the LORD’s tribute was thirty and two persons. 41And Moses gave the tribute, which was the LORD’s heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses. 42And of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided from the men that warred, 43(Now the half that pertained unto the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep, 44And thirty and six thousand beeves, 45And thirty thousand asses and five hundred, 46And sixteen thousand persons;) 47Even of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.
48¶ And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses: 49And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.31.49 charge: Heb. hand 50We have therefore brought an oblation for the LORD, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the LORD.31.50 gotten: Heb. found 51And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels. 52And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the LORD, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.31.52 offering: Heb. heave offering 53(For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.) 54And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the LORD.
미디안 사람들에 대한 보복
1여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 미디안 사람들에게 이스라엘
2백성의 원수를 갚아라. 그러고 나면 너는 죽게 될 것이다.”
3그래서 모세는 백성들에게 이렇게 말하였다. “미디안과 싸울 사람들을 무장시켜 여호와의 원수를 갚읍시다.
4각 지파에서 1,000명씩 뽑아 전쟁터에 내보내시오.”
5그래서 그들은 각 지파에서 1,000명씩 뽑아 모두 12,000명을 무장시켰다.
6모세는 그들을 전쟁터로 내보내면서 제사장 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스도 성소의 기구와 신호 나팔을 가지고 따라가게 하였다.
7그들은 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 미디안을 쳐서 남자들을 모조리 죽이고
8그 밖에 미디안의 다섯 왕 에위, 레겜, 수르, 후르, 레바를 죽였으며 그들은 또 브올의 아들 발람도 칼로 죽였다.
9그리고 이스라엘군은 미디안 여자들과 아이들을 사로잡고 가축을 포함한 그들의 모든 재산을 약탈하였으며
10그들의 성과 마을은 모조리 불태워 버렸다.
11-12그리고 그들은 빼앗은 전리품을 가지 고 짐승들과 사로잡은 자들을 끌고 모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 백성들이 진을 치고 있는 여리고 맞은편에 있는 요단 강변의 모압 평야를 향해 출발하였다.
13모세와 엘르아살과 백성의 지도자들이 개선하는 이스라엘군을 환영하러 진영 밖으로 나갔다.
14그러나 모세는 전쟁터에서 돌아온 지휘관들에게 화를 내며 이렇게 말하였다.
15“어째서 귀관들은 여자들을 모두 살려 두었소?
16이들이 바로 발람의 조언에 따라 브올에서 이스라엘 백성을 유혹하여 여호와께 범죄하게 하고 그들 가운데 전염병이 퍼지게 한 장본인들이 아니오?
17이제 귀관들은 남자 아이들을 모조리 죽이고 남자와 성관계를 가진 여자들도 다 죽이시오.
18그러나 남자와 성관계를 갖지 않은 여자들은 귀관들을 위해 살려 두어도 좋소.
19귀관들은 사람을 죽이고 시체를 만졌으니 7일 동안 진영 밖에 있으시오. 3일째 되는 날과 7일째 되는 날에는 귀관들과 사로잡혀온 자들이 다 몸을 깨끗이 하도록 하시오.
20그리고 모든 의복과 가죽 제품, 염소털이나 나무로 만든 물건도 다 정결하게 하시오.”
21그런 다음 제사장 엘르아살이 전쟁에 나갔던 군인들에게 이렇게 말하였다. “이것은 여호와께서 모세에게 주신 법령입니다.
22-23여러분은 금, 은, 동, 철, 주석, 납과 같 이 불에 타지 않는 것은 불에 통과시킨 다음 정결하게 하는 물로 깨끗하게 하고 불에 타는 모든 물건은 그 물로 정결하게 해야 합니다.
24그리고 여러분은 7일째 되는 날에 옷을 빠십시오. 그러면 여러분이 깨끗하게 되어 진영 안으로 들어올 수 있을 것입니다.”
전리품 분배
25여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다.
26“너는 제사장 엘르아살과 백성의 지도자들과 함께 사로잡혀온 사람과 약탈해 온 짐승의 수를 파악하고
27사람과 짐승을 포함하여, 모든 전리품을 반으로 나누어 절반은 전쟁에 나갔던 군인들에게 주고 절반은 백성들에게 주어라.
28그리고 군인들이 분배받은 사람과 소와 나귀와 양떼 중에서 500분의 은 나 여호와의 몫으로 떼어
29나에게 바치는 특별한 예물로 엘르아살에게 주고
30백성들이 분배받은 사람과 소와 나귀와 양떼 중에서는 50분의 을 떼어 성막을 맡은 레위인들에게 주어라.”
31그래서 모세와 제사장 엘르아살은 여호와의 명령대로 하였다.
32군인들이 개인적으로 가진 전리품 외에 그들이 백성들에게 끌고 온 짐승은 양이 675,000마리,
33소가 72,000마리,
34나귀가 61,000마리이며
35그들이 사로잡아온 사람은 남자와 성관계를 하지 않은 여자 32,000명이었다.
36-40그리고 그것의 절반, 곧 군인들이 분배 받은 것은 양 337,500마리, 소 36,000마리, 나귀 30,500마리, 사람 16,000명이었으며 그 중에서 여호와께 드린 것은 양 675마리, 소 72마리, 나귀 61마리, 사람 32명이었다.
41모세는 여호와께서 명령하신 대로 여호와의 몫으로 거둔 것을 다 제사장 엘르아살에게 주었다.
42-46그리고 모세는 군인들에게 나누어 주 고 남은 절반은 이스라엘 백성에게 주었는데 그것은 양 337,500마리, 소 36,000마리, 나귀 30,500마리, 사람 16,000명이었다.
47모세는 또 여호와의 명령대로 백성들이 분배받은 것 중에서 50분의 을 거두어 성막을 맡은 레위인들에게 주었다.
48-49그 후에 군 지휘관들이 모세에게 와서 이렇게 말하였다. “우리가 부하들의 인원을 점검한 결과 희생자가 한 사람도 없습니다.
50그래서 우리가 가지고 온 발목고리, 팔찌, 반지, 귀고리, 목걸이와 같은 금패물을 우리 생명에 대한 감사 예물로 여호와께 드립니다.”
51모세와 제사장 엘르아살은 그들에게서 금패물을 받았는데
52그 금의 전체 무게는 31:52 히 ‘16,750세겔’약 190킬로그램이었으며
53이것은 군인들이 개인적으로 가지고 온 전리품이었다.
54모세와 제사장 엘르아살은 그 금을 성막으로 가지고 가서 이스라엘 백성의 기념물로 여호와 앞에 두었다.
