1And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. 2And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. 3Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. 4I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. 5So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? 6And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. 7Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. 8And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. 9And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. 10He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 11If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?
13¶ No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 14And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. 15And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. 16The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. 17And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. 18Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
19¶ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: 28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Parábola del administrador astuto
1Jesús contó otra parábola a sus discípulos: «Un hombre rico tenía un administrador a quien acusaron de derrochar sus bienes. 2Así que lo mandó a llamar y le dijo: “¿Qué es esto que me dicen de ti? Rinde cuentas de tu administración, porque ya no puedes seguir en tu puesto”. 3El administrador reflexionó: “¿Qué voy a hacer ahora que mi amo está por quitarme el puesto? No tengo fuerzas para cavar y me da vergüenza pedir limosna. 4Tengo que asegurarme de que, cuando me echen de la administración, haya gente que me reciba en su casa. ¡Ya sé lo que voy a hacer!”.
5»Llamó entonces a cada uno de los que debían algo a su amo. Al primero le preguntó: “¿Cuánto le debes a mi amo?”. 6“Cien barriles16:6 cien barriles. Lit. cien batos (unos 3,000 l). de aceite”, contestó él. El administrador le dijo: “Toma tu factura, siéntate enseguida y escribe cincuenta”. 7Luego preguntó al segundo: “Y tú, ¿cuánto debes?”. “Cien bultos16:7 cien bultos. Lit. cien coros (unas 30 toneladas). de trigo”, contestó. El administrador le dijo: “Toma tu factura y escribe ochenta”.
8»Pues bien, el amo elogió al administrador deshonesto16:8 administrador deshonesto. Alt. administrador de riquezas mundanas. Lit. administrador de injusticia. por haber actuado con astucia. Es que los de este mundo, en su trato con los que son como ellos, son más astutos que los que han recibido la luz. 9Por eso les digo que se valgan de las riquezas deshonestas para ganar amigos,16:9 se valgan … amigos. Lit. se hagan amigos por medio del dinero de injusticia. a fin de que cuando estas se acaben haya quienes los reciban a ustedes en las viviendas eternas.
10»El que es fiel16:10 fiel. Alt. digno de confianza; también en vv. 11 y 12. en lo poco también lo será en lo mucho; y el que no es honrado16:10 el que no es honrado. Lit. el que es injusto. en lo poco tampoco lo será en lo mucho. 11Por eso, si ustedes no han sido fieles en el uso de las riquezas deshonestas,16:11 las riquezas deshonestas. Lit. el dinero injusto. ¿quién les confiará las verdaderas? 12Y, si con lo ajeno no han sido fieles, ¿quién les dará a ustedes lo que les pertenece?
13»Ningún sirviente puede servir a dos señores, pues menospreciará a uno y amará al otro o querrá mucho a uno y despreciará al otro. Ustedes no pueden servir a la vez a Dios y a las riquezas».
14Oían todo esto los fariseos, a quienes les encantaba el dinero, y se burlaban de Jesús. 15Él les dijo: «Ustedes se justifican ante la gente, pero Dios conoce sus corazones. Dense cuenta de que aquello que la gente tiene en gran estima es detestable delante de Dios.

16»La Ley y los Profetas se proclamaron hasta Juan. Desde entonces se anuncian las buenas noticias del reino de Dios y todos se esfuerzan por entrar en él.16:16 se esfuerzan por entrar en él. Alt. hacen violencia por entrar en él, o hacen violencia contra él. 17Es más fácil que desaparezcan el cielo y la tierra que caiga una sola tilde de la Ley.
18»Todo el que se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra comete adulterio; y el que se casa con la divorciada comete adulterio.
El rico y Lázaro
19»Había un hombre rico que se vestía con púrpura y lino fino, y daba espléndidos banquetes todos los días. 20A la puerta de su casa se tendía un mendigo llamado Lázaro, que estaba cubierto de llagas 21y que hubiera querido llenarse el estómago con lo que caía de la mesa del rico. Hasta los perros se acercaban y le lamían las llagas.
22»Resulta que murió el mendigo y los ángeles se lo llevaron para que estuviera al lado de Abraham. También murió el rico y lo sepultaron. 23En los dominios de la muerte,16:23 los dominios de la muerte. Lit. el Hades. en medio de sus tormentos, el rico levantó los ojos y vio de lejos a Abraham y a Lázaro junto a él. 24Así que alzó la voz y lo llamó: “Padre Abraham, ten compasión de mí y manda a Lázaro que moje la punta del dedo en agua y me refresque la lengua, porque estoy sufriendo mucho en este fuego”. 25Pero Abraham contestó: “Hijo, recuerda que durante tu vida te fue muy bien, mientras que a Lázaro le fue muy mal; pero ahora a él le toca recibir consuelo aquí, y a ti, sufrir mucho. 26Además de eso, hay un gran abismo entre nosotros y ustedes, de modo que los que quieren pasar de aquí para allá no pueden, ni tampoco pueden los de allá para acá”.
27»Él respondió: “Entonces te ruego, padre, que mandes a Lázaro a la casa de mi padre, 28para que advierta a mis cinco hermanos y no vengan ellos también a este lugar de tormento”. 29Pero Abraham contestó: “Ya tienen a Moisés y a los Profetas; ¡que les hagan caso a ellos!”. 30“No les harán caso, padre Abraham —respondió el rico—; en cambio, si se les presentara uno de entre los muertos, entonces sí se arrepentirían”. 31Abraham le dijo: “Si no hacen caso a Moisés y a los Profetas, tampoco se convencerán aunque alguien se levante de entre los muertos”».
