1And the LORD called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying, 2Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock.
3If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD. 4And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. 5And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 6And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces. 7And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire: 8And the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar: 9But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
10¶ And if his offering be of the flocks, namely, of the sheep, or of the goats, for a burnt sacrifice; he shall bring it a male without blemish. 11And he shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar. 12And he shall cut it into his pieces, with his head and his fat: and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar: 13But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn it upon the altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
14¶ And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons. 15And the priest shall bring it unto the altar, and wring off his head, and burn it on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side of the altar:1.15 wring…: or, pinch off the head with the nail 16And he shall pluck away his crop with his feathers, and cast it beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes:1.16 his feathers: or, the filth thereof 17And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
Het brandoffer
1De Here riep Mozes en sprak tot hem vanuit de tabernakel. 2Hij droeg hem op de volgende voorschriften aan het volk Israël door te geven: ‘Wanneer iemand van u de Here een offer wil brengen, moet hij daarvoor een rund of een stuk kleinvee gebruiken.
3Als hij een rund als brandoffer wil geven, moet het een stier zijn zonder lichamelijke gebreken. Hij moet het dier naar de ingang van de tabernakel brengen, waar de priesters het in ontvangst nemen als zijn geschenk aan de Here. 4Hij moet zijn hand op de kop van het dier leggen. De dood van het dier geldt dan in plaats van de dood van de man die het offer brengt, als de straf voor zijn zonden. 5De man moet het rund daarna voor de ogen van de Here slachten en Aärons zonen, de priesters, zullen het bloed van het offer voor de ogen van de Here aan alle kanten over het altaar bij de ingang van de tabernakel sprenkelen. 6Hij zal het brandoffer villen en in stukken verdelen. 7-8 Daarna zullen de zonen van Aäron een houtvuur op het altaar maken en de stukken, met de kop en het vet, op het vuur leggen. 9De ingewanden en de poten moeten eerst met water worden afgewassen en daarna ook op het vuur worden verbrand. Zo zal de priester alles in rook laten opgaan als een brandoffer, dat aangenaam is voor de Here.
10Als het offerdier een schaap of een geit is, moet het een mannelijk dier zijn, zonder gebreken. 11De man die het offer brengt, moet het dier voor het oog van de Here slachten aan de noordkant van het altaar en Aärons zonen, de priesters, zullen het bloed daarna rondom op het altaar sprenkelen. 12Daarna moet de man het dier in vieren delen, waarna de priesters de delen, met de kop en het vet, op het hout op het altaar leggen. 13De ingewanden en de poten moet hij eerst met water afwassen. Daarna zullen de priesters alles op het altaar verbranden als een brandoffer dat aangenaam is in de ogen van de Here.
14Wie een vogel als brandoffer wil brengen, mag kiezen tussen tortelduiven en jonge duiven. 15De priester zal de vogel naar het altaar brengen, hem de kop afdraaien en de kop op het altaar verbranden. Het bloed van het dier wordt tegen de zijkant van het altaar eruit gedrukt. 16De priester zal daarna de krop met de voedselresten verwijderen en deze aan de oostkant van het altaar op de ashoop gooien. 17Daarna zal hij de vleugels inscheuren zonder ze eraf te trekken en de priester zal de vogel op het altaar in rook laten opgaan als een brandoffer dat aangenaam is voor de Here.’
