1I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath. 2He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light. 3Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day. 4My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones. 5He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail. 6He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old. 7He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy. 8Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer. 9He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked. 10He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places. 11He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate. 12He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow. 13He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.3.13 arrows: Heb. sons 14I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day. 15He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.3.15 bitterness: Heb. bitternesses 16He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.3.16 covered…: or, rolled me in the ashes 17And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.3.17 prosperity: Heb. good 18And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD: 19Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.3.19 Remembering: or, Remember 20My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.3.20 humbled: Heb. bowed

22¶ It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 24The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. 25The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. 27It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. 28He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him. 29He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope. 30He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach. 31For the Lord will not cast off for ever: 32But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. 33For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.3.33 willingly: Heb. from his heart 34To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth, 35To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,3.35 the most High: or, a superior 36To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.3.36 approveth not: or, seeth not
37¶ Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not? 38Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good? 39Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?3.39 complain: or, murmur 40Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD. 41Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
42We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned. 43Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied. 44Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through. 45Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people. 46All our enemies have opened their mouths against us. 47Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction. 48Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people. 49Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission, 50Till the LORD look down, and behold from heaven. 51Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.3.51 mine heart: Heb. my soul3.51 because…: or, more than all 52Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause. 53They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me. 54Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off.
55¶ I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon. 56Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry. 57Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not. 58O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life. 59O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause. 60Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me. 61Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me; 62The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day. 63Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.
64¶ Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands. 65Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.3.65 sorrow…: or, obstinacy of heart 66Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.
형벌과 회개와 희망
1여호와께서 가하시는 분노의 매에 내가 고통당하는 자가 되었구나.
2그가 빛이 아닌 흑암 가운데로 나를 이끌어 걷게 하셨으며
3하루 종일 손을 들어 나를 계속 치셨다.
4그가 내 살과 가죽을 쇠하게 하고 내 뼈를 꺾으셨으며
5고생과 시련의 담으로 나를 가두시고
6죽은 지 오래된 사람처럼 나를 흑암 가운데 묻어 버리셨다.
7그가 나를 포위하여 무거운 쇠사슬을 채웠으니 내가 도망갈 수 없구나.
8내가 부르짖고 도움을 구하여도 그는 내 기도를 거절하시며
9큰 돌을 쌓아 내 길을 막고 내가 돌아서 다니도록 하셨다.
10그는 나에게 숨어서 해칠 자를 기다리는 곰과 사자 같구나.
11그가 길에서 나를 덮쳐 갈기갈기 찢고 그대로 내버려 두었으며
12활을 당겨 나를 과녁으로 삼으셨다.
13여호와께서 그 화살로 내 심장을 꿰뚫었으니
14내가 모든 백성들에게 조롱거리가 되고 온종일 그들의 웃음거리가 되었구나.
15그가 쓴 것으로 내 배를 채우시고 쑥물로 나를 취하게 하셨다.
16그가 자갈로 내 이를 부러뜨리고 나를 재로 덮으셨네.
17내 영혼이 평안을 빼앗겼으니 내가 행복을 잊어버렸구나.
18그래서 나는 말하였다. “내 힘이 쇠약해졌고 여호와에 대한 내 희망이 사라지고 말았다.”
19내가 당하는 쓰라린 고통과 역경을 나는 기억하고 있다.
20내가 이것을 생각하면 낙심도 되지만
21한편으로 생각해 보면 오히려 희망이 있다.
22여호와의 크신 사랑 때문에 우리가 소멸되지 않았으니 그의 자비가 영원하구나.
23이것이 아침마다 새로우니 주는 정말 신실하신 분이십니다.
24내 심령이 말하는구나. “여호와는 3:24 또는 ‘나의 기업이시니’나의 전체이시므로 내 희망을 그에게 두리라.”
25여호와께서는 자기에게 희망을 걸고 자기를 찾는 자에게 은혜를 베푸시니
26여호와의 구원을 조용히 기다리는 것이 좋고
27사람이 젊었을 때 3:27 원문에는 ‘멍에를 메는 것이 좋으니’이런 인내를 배우며 훈련하는 것이 좋다.
28혼자 앉아서 조용히 기다려야 하는 것은 여호와께서 그 고난의 멍에를 메게 하셨음이라.
29입을 티끌에 묻어 버려라. 혹시 희망이 있을지도 모른다.
30뺨을 얻어 맞고 모욕을 당할지라도 그 모든 수치를 참고 견뎌라.
31주께서 사람을 영원히 버리지는 않을 것이다.
32그가 비록 슬픔을 주셔도 그 크신 사랑으로 자비를 베푸시리라.
33주는 사람을 고생시키고 근심하게 하는 것을 기뻐하지 않으신다.
34갇힌 자를 발로 짓밟는 것과
35하나님이 주신 사람의 권리를 박탈하는 것과
36법정에서 재판을 그릇되게 하는 것을 주는 기쁘게 여기지 않으신다.
37여호와의 뜻이 아니면 아무것도 이루어지는 법이 없으니
38화와 복이 전능하신 여호와의 입에서 나오는 것이 아닌가?
39사람이 자기 죄로 벌을 받고 어떻게 원망할 수 있겠는가?
40우리 행위를 살피고 조사하여 여호와께 돌아가자.
41하늘에 계신 하나님을 향하여 마음을 열고 손을 들어 기도하자.
42“여호와여, 우리가 범죄하고 거역한 것을 주는 용서하지 않으셨습니다.
43“주는 분노로 자신을 가리고 우리를 추격하여 무자비하게 죽이셨습니다.
44주께서 분노의 구름으로 가리고 계시니 우리의 기도가 도달하지 못합니다.
45주께서는 우리를 세상의 찌꺼기와 폐물이 되게 하셨습니다.
46“우리의 모든 대적이 우리를 향해 입을 크게 벌리고 조롱하고 있습니다.
47우리가 재앙을 당하고 파멸하여 공포와 위험 가운데서 살고 있습니다.”
48내 백성이 멸망당한 것을 보니 내 눈에서 눈물이 시내처럼 흐르는구나.
49내 눈에서 눈물이 쉬지 않고 끊임없이 흘러내리니
50여호와께서 하늘에서 살피시고 돌아보는 날이 있을 것이다.
51성 안의 모든 여자들에게 일어난 일을 보니 내 마음이 상하는구나.
52이유 없이 나를 미워하는 원수들이 새를 사냥하듯 나를 추격하였다.
53그들이 나를 산 채로 구덩이에 집어 넣고 그 위를 돌로 막았으니
54물이 나를 덮쳤을 때 나는 죽는 줄로 알았다.
55여호와여, 내가 아주 깊은 구덩이에서 주의 이름을 불렀습니다.
56나의 부르짖음과 호소에 귀를 기울여 달라고 내가 주께 기도했을 때 주는 들으시고
57나에게 가까이 오셔서 두려워하지 말라고 하셨습니다.
58여호와여, 주는 내 마음의 원통함을 풀어 주셨고 내 생명을 구해 주셨습니다.
59내가 당한 일을 주께서 보셨으니 나의 억울한 문제를 해결해 주소서.
60주는 내 원수들의 모든 보복과 나를 해하려는 그들의 책략을 다 보셨습니다.
61여호와여, 그들이 나를 모욕하며 나를 해할 음모를 꾸미고 있는 소리를 주께서는 들으셨습니다.
62그들이 나를 치려고 하루 종일 속삭이며 모략을 꾸미고 있습니다.
63주여, 보소서. 그들이 앉든지 서든지 하루 종일 나를 비웃고 있습니다.
64여호와여, 그들이 행한 대로 갚으소서.
65그들의 마음을 굳어지게 하시고 그들에게 저주가 내리게 하소서.
66여호와여, 주의 진노로 그들을 추격하여 지상에서 아주 없애 버리소서.
