2“Até quando estarás tu a tentar enganar?
Fala sensatamente, se queres que respondamos!
3Aos teus olhos tornámo-nos como animais,
estúpidos e mudos?
4Estás só a magoar-te a ti mesmo zangando-te dessa maneira,
irá isso fazer com que as rochas se movam dos seus lugares
e a terra se despovoe?
5A verdade é esta: se não prosperas, é porque não és reto;
a chama da tua vida se apagará.
6Haverá escuridão nas casas de todos os ímpios.
7A passada confiante do malvado se tornará vacilante;
será derrubado pelos seus próprios planos.
8Cai na armadilha, conduzido pelo seu próprio pé,
e, trôpego, cairá nas redes à sua volta.
9Andará sobre armadilhas;
assaltantes armar-lhe-ão emboscadas.
10Há uma ratoeira em cada atalho que toma.
11Tem razões suficientes para andar aterrorizado;
os seus adversários andam cerradamente no seu encalço
12O seu vigor decai por causa da fome;
a calamidade está pronta a lançar-lhe as garras.
13Tem a pele carcomida devido à carência de alimentos;
a morte acabará por devorá-lo.
14Será arrancado ao sossego da sua casa
e será levado até ao rei dos terrores.
15A sua casa acabará por desaparecer num braseiro de enxofre.
16As raízes que tinha hão de secar
e os ramos que produzir hão de murchar.
17Qualquer lembrança da sua existência será banida da Terra;
ninguém mais se lembrará dele.
18Será posto fora do reino da luz para o das trevas;
será expulso do mundo.
19Não deixará descendente algum,
nem filhos nem netos nem qualquer outro parente.
20Do Oriente ao Ocidente, todos pasmarão sobressaltados
perante o seu destino.
21Assim termina a habitação do ímpio;
sim, é isso que acontece ao que não conhece a Deus!”
