1Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed.48.1 Misgab: or, the high place 2There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. 7¶ For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together. 8And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD hath spoken. 9Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be desolate, without any to dwell therein. 10Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.48.10 deceitfully: or, negligently
11¶ Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.48.11 remained: Heb. stood 12Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles. 13And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence.
14¶ How say ye, We are mighty and strong men for the war? 15Moab is spoiled, and gone up out of her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.48.15 his…: Heb. the choice of 16The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast. 17All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod! 18Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holds. 19O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?48.19 inhabitant: Heb. inhabitress 20Moab is confounded; for it is broken down: howl and cry; tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled, 21And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath, 22And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim, 23And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon, 24And upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near. 25The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the LORD.
26¶ Make ye him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision. 27For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.48.27 skippedst…: or, movedst thyself 28O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth. 29We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart. 30I know his wrath, saith the LORD; but it shall not be so; his lies shall not so effect it.48.30 his lies…: or, those on whom he stayeth (Heb. his bars) do not right 31Therefore will I howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; mine heart shall mourn for the men of Kir-heres. 32O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer: thy plants are gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage. 33And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting. 34From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.48.34 desolate: Heb. desolations 35Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods. 36Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: because the riches that he hath gotten are perished. 37For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands shall be cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.48.37 clipped: Heb. diminished 38There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the LORD. 39They shall howl, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him.48.39 back: Heb. neck 40For thus saith the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab. 41Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.48.41 Kerioth: or, The cities 42And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the LORD. 43Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD. 44He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD. 45They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.48.45 tumultuous…: Heb. children of noise 46Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.48.46 captives, and: Heb. in captivity, etc
47¶ Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
모압에 대한 심판
1이것은 모압에 대한 말씀이다. 전능하신 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님 이 말씀하신다. “슬프다! 느보야, 네가 황폐해졌구나. 기랴다임이 수치를 당하고 점령되었으며 48:1 히 ‘미스갑’그 요새도 수치를 당하고 파괴되었으니
2모압에 자랑할 것이 없어지고 말았다. 헤스본에서 사람들이 모압에 대한 음모를 꾸미며 ‘그 나라를 아주 없애 버리자’ 하는구나. 맛멘아, 너도 적막하게 될 것이며 칼이 너를 따를 것이다.
3호로나임이 부르짖는 소리를 들어 보아라. 황폐와 큰 파멸의 소리이다.
4모압이 멸망당하므로 그 어린 아이들이 부르짖는구나.
5그들이 루힛 언덕으로 올라가면서 계속 울고 부르짖으니 호로나임 내리막 길에서 패망의 가슴 아픈 통곡 소리를 들었기 때문이다.
6모압아, 너는 급히 달아나 네 생명을 구하고 광야의 떨기나무처럼 되어라.
7네가 네 48:7 또는 ‘공작과 보물을’재능과 부를 의지하지만 너도 정복당할 것이며 너의 신 그모스도 그 제사장들과 대신들과 함께 포로로 잡혀갈 것이다.
8멸망시킬 자가 와서 모든 성을 칠 것이다. 한 성도 피하지 못할 것이며 골짜기나 평원이 다 파손되어 나 여호와가 말한 대로 될 것이다.
9모압에게 날개를 주어 날아가서 피하게 하라. 그 성들이 황폐하여 거기에 사는 자가 아무도 없을 것이다.
10“나 여호와의 일을 태만하게 하는 자는 저주를 받을 것이며 자기 칼로 피를 흘리지 않는 자도 저주를 받을 것이다.
11“모압은 옛날부터 평안하고 포로로 잡혀간 적도 없으므로 이 병에서 저 병으로 따라 붓지 않아 그 찌꺼기가 고스란히 가라앉아 있는 술처럼 아직도 그 맛이 그대로 있고 그 냄새가 변하지 않았다.
12그러나 내가 사람을 보내 그 술병을 기울이고 모압을 술처럼 비워 버리며 그 병들을 깨뜨릴 날이 올 것이다.
1348:13 또는 ‘이스라엘 집이 벧엘을 의뢰하므로’이스라엘이 벧엘의 송아지 우상으로 수치를 당한 것처럼 모압도 그모스 신 때문에 수치를 당할 것이다.
14너희가 어째서 ‘우리는 용사이며 전쟁에 용감한 병사이다’ 하고 말하느냐?
15전능한 여호와란 이름을 가진 이 왕이 말하지만 모압은 반드시 멸망할 것이다. 그 성들이 침략을 당하여 가장 용감한 청년들도 죽음을 당할 것이다.
16모압의 멸망이 가까웠으므로 그에게 재난이 속히 밀어닥칠 것이다.
17그 주변에 사는 자들아, 그의 명성을 아는 자들아, 그를 위해 슬퍼하며 ‘너의 강한 막대기, 아름다운 지팡이가 부러졌구나!’ 하라.
18“디본에 사는 자들아, 너희 영광의 자리에서 내려와 메마른 땅에 앉아라. 모압을 멸망시킬 자가 와서 너희를 치고 너희 요새를 파괴할 것이다.
19아로엘에 사는 자들아, 길가에 서서 지켜 보며 도망하는 자와 피하는 여인에게 ‘무슨 일인가?’ 하고 물어 보아라.
20모압이 패망하여 수치를 당하고 있다. 너희는 울고 부르짖으며 모압이 멸망했다고 아르논 강가에서 선언하라.
21심판이 고원 지대에 밀어닥쳤으니 곧 홀론, 야사, 메바앗,
22디본, 느보, 벧 – 디블라다임,
23기랴다임, 벧 – 가물, 벧 – 므온,
24그리욧, 보스라, 그리고 모압 땅 원근 모든 성이다.
25모압의 뿔이 꺾이고 그 팔이 부러졌구나. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.
26“모압을 취하게 하라. 그가 나 여호와를 거역하였다. 모압은 자기가 토한 것에 뒹굴 것이며 모든 사람의 조롱거리가 될 것이다.
27모압아, 네가 얼마나 이스라엘을 조롱했는지 한번 생각해 보아라. 그가 도둑질하다가 붙들렸느냐? 네가 그에 대해서 말할 때마다 머리를 흔드는구나.
28모압에 사는 자들아, 너희는 성을 버리고 떠나 바위산에 가서 살며 48:28 또는 ‘깊은 골짜기 어귀에’동굴 입구에 깃들이는 비둘기같이 되어라.
29“모압의 교만에 대해서 듣고 보니 그 교만이 대단하구나. 그가 거드럭거리고 뽐내며 자만하고 잘난 척하며 그 마음이 아주 거만하다.
30나 여호와는 그의 분노가 쓸모없는 것임을 잘 알고 있다. 그가 잘난 척하여도 성취한 것이 아무것도 없다.
31그러므로 내가 모압을 위해 울고 부르짖으며 48:31 또는 ‘길-하레셋’길 – 헤레스 사람을 위해 슬퍼할 것이다.
32십마 사람들아, 내가 야셀을 위해 우는 것보다 너희를 위해 훨씬 더 많이 울 것이다. 너희가 사해를 넘어 야셀 바다까지 뻗은 포도나무와 같더니 너희 여름 과일과 포도에 파멸하는 자가 밀어닥쳤구나.
33모압의 옥토에서 기쁨과 즐거움이 사라지고 말았다. 내가 포도주틀에서 포도주가 나오지 않게 하였으니 기뻐서 외치며 포도주틀을 밟는 자가 아무도 없을 것이다. 만일 외치는 소리가 있어도 그것이 즐거운 소리가 되지 못할 것이다.
34“헤스본에서부터 엘르알레와 야하스까지, 그리고 소알에서부터 호로나임과 에글랏 – 셀리시야까지 흩어져 사는 사람들이 소리 높여 부르짖으니 니므림의 물까지 말랐기 때문이다.
35나는 모압 사람들이 산당에서 제사를 지내며 그 신들에게 분향하는 일을 하지 못하게 할 것이다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.
36“피리로 조가를 부는 사람처럼 내 마음이 모압과 길 – 헤레스 사람들을 위해 슬퍼하는 것은 그들의 모든 재물이 다 없어졌기 때문이다.
37모든 사람이 자기들의 머리를 밀고 수염을 깎았으며 손에 상처를 내고 삼베 옷을 입었구나.
38모압의 모든 지붕 위에서와 거리 곳곳에서 슬피 우는 소리가 들리니 내가 모압을 쓸모없는 그릇처럼 깨뜨려 버렸기 때문이다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.
39“모압이 파괴되어 통곡하는구나. 모압이 부끄러워 등을 돌렸으니 그 주변의 모든 자들에게 조롱거리와 증오의 대상이 되었다.”
40여호와께서 말씀하신다. “한 나라가 독수리처럼 모압을 덮칠 것이다.
41성들이 함락되고 요새가 점령당하는 날 모압 용사들의 마음이 해산하는 여인의 심정과 같을 것이다.
42모압이 나 여호와를 거역하여 교만하였으므로 멸망당하고 다시는 나라를 세우지 못할 것이다.
43모압 백성들에게 두려움과 함정과 덫이 기다리고 있다.
44두려움에서 피하는 자는 함정에 빠질 것이며 함정에서 나오는 자는 덫에 걸릴 것이다. 이것은 내가 모압이 벌받을 때를 정하였기 때문이다.
45“도망하는 자들이 기진하여 헤스본 그늘 아래 서는구나. 불이 헤스본에서 나오고 불꽃이 시혼 가운데서 나와 모압의 정수리와 시끄럽게 떠들어대는 자들의 머리를 사르는구나.
46모압아, 너에게 화가 미쳤다. 그모스를 섬기는 백성이 망하였으니 네 아들딸들이 포로로 사로잡혀가고 말았다.
47“그러나 때가 되면 내가 모압을 원상태로 회복시킬 것이다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.” 이렇게 해서 모압에 대한 심판의 말씀이 끝났다.
