1Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word, 2And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates: 3Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place. 4For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.22.4 upon…: Heb. for David upon his throne 5But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation. 6For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou art Gilead unto me, and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited. 7And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire. 8And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city? 9Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.
10¶ Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: but weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country. 11For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more: 12But he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.
13¶ Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work; 14That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and it is cieled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.22.14 large: Heb. through-aired22.14 windows: or, my windows 15Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him? 16He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD. 17But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.22.17 violence: or, incursion 18Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory! 19He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
20¶ Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all thy lovers are destroyed. 21I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.22.21 prosperity: Heb. prosperities 22The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness. 23O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!22.23 inhabitant: Heb. inhabitress 24As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence; 25And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans. 26And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die. 27But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return.22.27 desire: Heb. lift up their mind 28Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not? 29O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD. 30Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
Juízo contra reis malvados
1Então o Senhor disse-me: “Vai falar diretamente ao rei de Judá e diz-lhe: 2Ouve esta mensagem do Senhor, ó rei de Judá, que te sentas no trono de David; deixa os teus servos e o povo ouvir também.
3Diz o Senhor: sê puro de intenções e faz o que for justo! Apoia os que precisam de justiça! Deixa de vez as tuas más ações! Protege os direitos dos estrangeiros, dos órfãos e das viúvas e para de matar inocentes! 4Se puseres um fim a todos estes terríveis atos que estás a praticar, então livrarei esta nação. Mais uma vez darei reis para se sentarem no trono de David e haverá prosperidade para todos. 5Mas se recusarem dar atenção a este aviso, garanto-vos, pelo meu próprio nome, diz o Senhor, que este palácio se tornará num verdadeiro açougue.”
6Esta é a mensagem do Senhor quanto a este palácio: “És-me tão querido como o frutífero Gileade e as verdes florestas do Líbano. Contudo, destruir-te-ei e deixar-te-ei deserto, inabitado. 7Mandarei vir destruidores para que te desmantelem com as suas armas. Deitarão abaixo todas as tuas grossas vigas de madeira de cedro, para as lançar no fogo. 8Homens de muitas nações passarão pelas ruínas desta cidade e dirão uns para os outros: ‘Porque foi que o Senhor fez isto? Porque destruiu ele esta grande cidade?’ 9E a resposta que se lhes dará será esta: ‘Porque o povo que aqui vivia desprezou o Senhor, o seu Deus, e violou a aliança feita com ele, tendo-se voltado para ídolos, para os adorarem.’ ”
10Povo de Judá, não chorem pelo rei Josias! Não lamentem a sua morte! Chorem antes amargamente pelo seu filho que será levado e nunca mais voltará para ver de novo a terra natal. 11Pois o Senhor diz a respeito de Salum22.11 Também conhecido por Jeoacaz. Sucedeu a Josias e cerca de três meses depois foi deportado para o Egito., que sucedeu ao seu pai, o rei Josias de Judá, que também foi levado cativo: “Ele não mais voltará. 12Morrerá numa terra distante e nunca mais verá a sua própria terra.”
13“E ai de ti, rei Joaquim, que estás a construir o teu grande palácio com trabalhadores forçados, com a injustiça. É à força de não pagares os salários que constróis; é na base da opressão e do desprezo dos direitos de quem trabalha que fazes todos os seus belos acabamentos. 14Dizes: ‘Construirei um palácio magnífico, com salas imensas e inúmeras janelas, todo forrado de madeira de cedro bem aromática e pintada com belos tons de vermelho.’
15Mas não é um belo palácio que faz um grande rei! Porque foi que teu pai Josias reinou tanto tempo? Porque era justo e honesto em todos os seus atos. Foi por isso que ele foi abençoado em tudo o que fez. 16Procurou que fosse feita justiça aos pobres e que se prestasse assistência a quem dela precisava verdadeiramente. É isso que é conhecer-me, diz o Senhor. 17Mas tu estás cheio de ambição pessoal e és profundamente desonesto! Assassinas os inocentes, oprimes os pobres e governas com violência.”
18Por isso, este é o castigo que o Senhor decreta contra o rei Joaquim, que sucedeu a seu pai Josias no trono: “A sua família não chorará por ele quando morrer. Os seus súbditos nem sequer se preocuparão em saber se está ou não morto. 19Será enterrado como o cadáver dum jumento, posto numa cova fora de Jerusalém e lançado como entulho em qualquer parte fora das muralhas!
20Chora, porque os vossos aliados já se foram. Procura-os no Líbano, grita por eles em Basã, clama desde Abarim e vê se os encontra nos vaus do Jordão. Hás de reparar que estão todos aniquilados. Ninguém ficou para te ajudar! 21Quando ainda eras próspero, bem te avisei, mas tu respondias: ‘Não me incomodem!’ Desde a tua meninice que és assim, que te recusas escutar! 22Agora o vento espalhará os teus governantes para longe; os teus aliados serão levados para o exílio. Certamente reconhecerás, por fim, a tua maldade e terás profunda vergonha. 23Sem dúvida que é muito bonito viver num belíssimo palácio, no meio de madeira de cedros do Líbano! Mas a verdade é que em breve chorarás e gemerás de angústia como se fosse uma mulher com dores de parto.
24E quanto a ti, Conias22.24 Forma abreviada do nome Jeconias., filho de Joaquim, rei de Judá, ainda que tivesses sido como o sinete em forma de anel que uso no dedo da mão direita, lançar-te-ei para longe. 25Entregar-te-ei simplesmente àqueles que procuram matar-te, de quem tens um medo tremendo, a Nabucodonozor, o rei da Babilónia, e aos seus poderosos caldeus. 26Jogar-te-ei, a ti e à tua mãe, fora desta terra; morrerão ambos numa terra estrangeira. 27Nunca mais voltarão a esta terra da qual se encherão de saudades.”
28Esse homem, Conias, é como um prato vulgar, já rachado. Tanto ele como os seus filhos serão atirados para longe, serão exilados para terras distantes.
29Ó terra, terra, terra! Ouve a palavra do Senhor! 30Diz o Senhor: “Registem esse indivíduo, Conias, como não tendo filhos, porque nenhum dos seus filhos jamais se sentará no trono de David, nem governará em Judá. A sua vida pouco vale.”
