1In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying, 1.1 by: Heb. by the hand of1.1 governor: or, captain 2Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built. 3Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? 5Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.1.5 Consider…: Heb. 7¶ Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.1.7 Consider…: Heb. Set your heart on your ways 8Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD. 9Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.1.9 blow…: or, blow it away 10Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit. 11And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
12¶ Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD. 13Then spake Haggai the LORD’s messenger in the LORD’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD. 14And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, 15In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
耶和華命令百姓重建聖殿
1大流士王執政第二年六月一日，耶和華藉著先知哈該對撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯和約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞說：
2「萬軍之耶和華說，『這些百姓說，重建耶和華殿的時候還沒到。』」 3因此，耶和華對先知哈該說： 4「這殿還是一片廢墟，你們卻住在華麗的房子裡。 5萬軍之耶和華說，你們要認真反省自己的行為。 6你們種多收少，吃不飽，喝不足，穿不暖，掙來的工錢卻放在漏口袋中。」
7萬軍之耶和華說：「你們要認真反省自己的行為。 8你們要上山伐木，重建這殿，好讓我歡喜並得到尊崇。這是耶和華說的。 9你們盼望豐收，結果收的很少；你們把收成帶回家，我卻把它們吹走。這是什麼緣故？萬軍之耶和華告訴你們，『因為你們都忙於建自家的房子，任由我的殿一片廢墟。 10所以，天不降雨露，地無出產。 11我讓旱災臨到大地、群山、五穀、葡萄、橄欖等地裡的出產以及人畜，使你們一切的勞碌付諸東流。』」
12撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯、約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞和所有的餘民1·12 「餘民」指「從流亡之地歸回的人」。聽到他們的上帝耶和華藉先知哈該所講的話，都順服耶和華的話。百姓都敬畏耶和華。 13耶和華的使者哈該向百姓傳達耶和華的話，說：「耶和華說，『我與你們同在。』」 14耶和華感動撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯、約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞和所有的餘民，他們就動工建造他們的上帝萬軍之耶和華的殿， 15時值大流士王執政第二年六月二十四日。
