1And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations; 2That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar. 3All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea. 4Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. 5And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim,14.5 Shaveh…: or, The plain of Kiriathaim 6And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto El-paran, which is by the wilderness.14.6 El-paran: or, The plain of Paran 7And they returned, and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezon-tamar. 8And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim; 9With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five. 10And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain. 11And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way. 12And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
13¶ And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.14.13 plain: Heb. plains 14And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.14.14 armed: or, led forth14.14 trained: or, instructed 15And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus. 16And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
17¶ And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale. 18And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. 19And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 20And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
21And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.14.21 persons: Heb. souls 22And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, 23That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: 24Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.

ロトの救出
1-2折りも折り、この地方に戦争が起こりました。
シヌアルの王アムラフェル、エラサルの王アルヨク、エラムの王ケドルラオメル、ゴイムの王ティデアルの同盟軍が、ソドムの王ベラ、ゴモラの王ビルシャ、アデマの王シヌアブ、ツェボイムの王シェムエベル、のちにツォアルと呼ばれたベラの王の連合軍と戦ったのです。 3ソドム、ゴモラ、アデマ、ツェボイム、ベラの王たちは、今は塩の海といわれるシディムの谷に全軍を集めました。 4この五人の王は、十二年間ケドルラオメル王に支配されていましたが、十三年目に反乱を起こしたのです。
5-6一年後、ケドルラオメル王の率いる同盟軍が討伐に乗り出し、むごたらしい戦いが始まりました。同盟軍は、アシュテロテ・カルナイムのレファイム人、ハムのズジム人、キルヤタイムの平原にいたエミム人、セイルの山のホリ人を打ち破り、さらにその勢いに乗って、砂漠との境にあるエル・パランまで進軍しました。 7そこから引き返し、今のカデシュに当たるエン・ミシュパテでアマレク人を破り、さらにハツァツォン・タマルのエモリ人をも破りました。 8-9ソドム、ゴモラ、アデマ、ツェボイム、ベラ〔ツォアル〕の連合軍は、ケドルラオメル王の同盟軍に塩の海で戦いを挑みましたが、敗れました。 10そのころ、谷にはアスファルトの穴がたくさんあり、退却する時、ソドムの王とゴモラの王はその穴に落ち、残りの者は山へ逃げ込みました。 11同盟軍は勝利の余勢をかってソドムとゴモラを略奪し、町中の財産と食糧をことごとく奪って引き揚げました。 12その時、アブラムの甥ロトもソドムに住んでいたので、捕虜にされ、全財産を奪われました。
13一人の男が逃亡して、ヘブル人のアブラムのところへ駆け込み、一部始終を報告しました。アブラムはそのころ、エモリ人マムレの所有地にある樫の木立の中に野営していました。マムレは、アブラムと盟約を結んでいたエシュコルとアネルの兄弟でした。
14ロトたちが捕虜になったことを聞くと、アブラムは家のしもべたち総勢三百十八人を引き連れ、引き揚げるケドルラオメルの同盟軍をダンまで追いかけました。 15そして夜になって、奇襲攻撃を展開して、敗走する敵軍をダマスコの北、ホバまで追跡し、 16略奪された全財産とロト、それに捕虜になっていた人々すべてを取り返しました。
17こうしてアブラムがケドルラオメル王を打ち破り、現在の「王の谷」に当たるシャベの谷まで引き揚げると、ソドムの王が彼を出迎えました。 18また、シャレム〔エルサレム〕の王、いと高き天の神の祭司メルキゼデクは、パンとぶどう酒を持って来て、 19-20アブラムを祝福しました。
「天地のすべてを造られた、いと高き神の祝福が、
アブラムよ、あなたにあるように。
あなたを敵に勝たせてくださった神が
あがめられるように。」
アブラムは、メルキゼデクに戦利品の十分の一を贈りました。
21ソドムの 王は、取り戻された財産を受け取ろうとせず、「捕虜にされていた国民を返してくださるだけで十分です。町から盗まれた物は、どうぞそのままあなたがお取りください」と言いました。 22しかしアブラムは答えました。「私はいと高き神、世界を造られた神に堅く誓いました。 23ですから、くつひも一本頂くわけにはまいりません。『アブラムは私が物を与えたから豊かになった』などと言われたくないのです。 24ただし、追跡に加わった私の軍の若者が食べた分まではお返ししません。それ以外は、いっさい頂きません。戦利品の分け前は、アネル、エシュコル、マムレに与えてください。」
