1Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day. 3And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it: 4Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. 5Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.24.5 burn: or, heap
6¶ Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it. 7For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust; 8That it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered. 9Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great. 10Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned. 11Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed. 12She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scum shall be in the fire. 13In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee. 14I the LORD have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord GOD.
15¶ Also the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 16Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.24.16 run down: Heb. go 17Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.24.17 Forbear: Heb. 1Le dixième jour du dixième mois, dans la neuvième année24.1 C’est-à-dire en janvier 588 av. J.-C. Voir 2 R 25.1., l’Eternel m’adressa la parole et me dit :
2Fils d’homme, note par écrit la date d’aujourd’hui, de façon précise car, aujourd’hui même, le roi de Babylone a commencé les opérations contre Jérusalem.
3Raconte une parabole à la communauté rebelle. Dis-lui :
« Voici ce que déclare ╵le Seigneur, l’Eternel :
Prépare la marmite, ╵mets-la en place ╵et verses-y de l’eau24.3 Pour les v. 3-14, voir 11.3-7. La marmite est Jérusalem (11.3)..
4Mets-y de bons morceaux de viande,
tous les meilleurs morceaux : ╵le gigot et l’épaule.
Finis de la remplir ╵avec des os de choix.
5Prends les meilleurs moutons ╵dans le troupeau,
puis entasse le bois24.5 le bois. Le texte hébreu traditionnel a : les os. La différence tient à une lettre en hébreu ; cela s’explique par la proximité du mot « os », à la fin du verset. sous la marmite.
Fais-la bouillir à gros bouillons !
Que même les os cuisent ! »
6Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : « Malheur à la ville meurtrière, marmite couverte de vert-de-gris, et dont le vert-de-gris ne s’en va pas ! Retirez-en les morceaux les uns après les autres sans tirer au sort. 7Car le sang qu’elle a versé est toujours au milieu d’elle. Il n’a pas été répandu sur la terre où la poussière l’aurait recouvert ; non : elle l’a versé sur la roche nue. 8Pour faire déborder ma colère et lui faire payer ses crimes, j’ai fait verser ce sang sur la roche nue pour qu’il ne soit pas recouvert.
9C’est pourquoi le Seigneur, l’Eternel, déclare ceci : Malheur à la ville sanguinaire ! Moi aussi, je dresserai un grand bûcher. 10Entasse du bois en quantité, allume le feu, fais cuire complètement la viande, ajoute les épices et que les os soient calcinés. 11Ensuite, tu mettras la marmite vide sur des braises pour qu’elle chauffe, que son cuivre rougisse et que ses impuretés se fondent à l’intérieur, et que son vert-de-gris soit consumé. 12Mais tous ces efforts sont inutiles : le vert-de-gris dont elle est couverte en quantité ne partira pas par le feu.
13Jérusalem, ta conduite immorale t’a rendue impure. J’ai voulu te purifier de ta souillure, mais tu ne t’es pas laissé purifier. Tu ne pourras plus être purifiée jusqu’à ce que j’aie assouvi ma colère contre toi. 14Moi, l’Eternel, j’ai parlé. L’heure est venue et je vais agir. Je ne me retiendrai pas, je n’aurai pas de pitié, je ne reviendrai pas sur ma décision. Tu seras jugée selon ta conduite et selon tes actes, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare. »
Le deuil d’Ezéchiel
15L’Eternel m’adressa la parole en ces termes :
16Fils d’homme, je vais t’enlever, par une mort soudaine, celle qui charme tes yeux, mais tu ne porteras pas le deuil, tu ne pleureras pas, tu ne verseras aucune larme. 17Désole-toi en silence, mais n’accomplis pas de rites funèbres. Mets ton turban sur la tête et tes sandales aux pieds. Ne te couvre pas la moustache et n’accepte pas le pain de condoléances des voisins.
18Le matin, je m’adressai au peuple, et le soir même, mon épouse mourut. Le lendemain matin, j’agis conformément à ce qui m’avait été ordonné. 19Alors les gens me demandèrent : Pourquoi agis-tu de la sorte ? Nous expliqueras-tu ce que cela signifie pour nous ?
20Je leur répondis : L’Eternel m’a adressé la parole en ces termes : 21« Dis à la communauté d’Israël : Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Je vais profaner mon sanctuaire dont vous tirez votre orgueil et votre force, qui charme vos yeux et qui est l’objet de votre sollicitude. Vos fils et vos filles que vous avez laissés là-bas tomberont par l’épée. 22Et vous agirez comme j’ai agi : vous ne vous couvrirez pas la moustache et vous ne mangerez pas le pain de condoléances de vos voisins. 23Vous garderez vos turbans sur la tête et vos sandales aux pieds. Vous ne porterez pas le deuil et vous ne pleurerez pas, mais vous dépérirez à cause de vos péchés et vous gémirez les uns auprès des autres. 24Ce qu’Ezéchiel a fait vous servira de signe : quand cela arrivera, vous agirez exactement comme il a agi, et vous reconnaîtrez que je suis le Seigneur, l’Eternel.
25Et maintenant, fils d’homme, écoute : le jour vient où je leur reprendrai le sanctuaire qui fait leur force, leur joie, leur parure, qui charme leurs yeux et qui fait l’objet de leur sollicitude ; ainsi que leurs fils et leurs filles24.25 reprendrai leur sanctuaire… filles (voir v. 21). Autre traduction : reprendrai ce qui fait leur force, leur joie, leur parure, qui charme leurs yeux et qui fait l’objet de leur sollicitude : leurs fils et leurs filles.. 26En ce jour-là, un rescapé arrivera vers toi pour annoncer la nouvelle. 27En ce jour-là, quand ce rescapé arrivera, tu pourras ouvrir la bouche et tu parleras ; tu ne seras plus muet24.27 Voir 3.26..
